Thanks WR the team pressure surprised me I felt like they were way up on us but guess we are more critical of our own team. Lindsay leading the pressure points as well as playing a great game really shows his class.

Feel like it makes it even worse that we couldn’t even match them there, after watching the hawks and blues on Thursday just shows how far off we were, the hawks were over 220 across the game while blues were only a touch under 200 from memory

Round 2, 2025 Marvel - Kangaroos vs Demons

Haven't seen a team score (against us) at that level ever i think.  So either we were terrible or they were (are?) presently playing like this season's premiers!?  Maybe both!

Even in 2021 we did not crack a Team Score as high as North in this match.  Closest we got was round 20 vs the Suns with a 71.78

Our Team Score 13% off our 2024 average.  And nearly 16% off our team's average in 2021 (67.23)

Clarry back to his previous best statistically!  Only one match however so will have to wait and see if that's sustainable.  Bested everyone on the day!!

Chandler had a day out.  Is that also sustainable or something similar?  One can only hope.  Sparrow off to a flyer but his disposals are pretty hard to watch at times.  Same can be said of so many here as well eg., Viney, Tracc, Rivers, Bowey etc.

Tracc in free fall.

Fritta barely registering a shot.  Simon should seriously consider making some statements here if one or both of AJ and Melk are available.  If both available then should we consider omitting Jeffo & Fritta for AJ & Melk?  Jeffo might be out inj anyway of course.

  • Shot Rating: average score above or below expected score per shot at goal.

Notes: Expected scores are calculated by Wheelo Ratings. Each shot at goal is assigned an expected score based on the distance from goal, shot angle, and type of shot (e.g. set shot, general play following contested possession, general play following uncontested possession, ground kick, etc) as a proxy for pressure. The model does not take into account factors like the player, whether the ball was kicked with their preferred or non-preferred foot, and pressure on the player when taking the shot. Rushed behinds are excluded from actual and expected scores.

The score source tells the tale.

We did not win on any count from turnovers or territory.

Whatever Simon is attempting it got smashed outta the park against a good (but not great) up-and-coming team yesterday.

The MFC's FD is on fire.

Maybe not burning down yet but it's seriously ablaze and i hope Simon called the fire brigade to attend at today's review to start the long arduous task of putting it out.

Wow Trac had a real good stinker: I actually didn’t realise how bad it was. Understand he played forward but his game was worse than Gawns rating wise.

The other mid who had a stinker was Rivers. Not sure that moving him on ball is working.

For the rest, they had 13 players who rated above 3.0. We had 8. Very hard to win games of football like that.

Really glad this thread exists with objective data rather than absolute hysterics.

Those percentages really tell the story for me.  We were on a par for effort, but couldn't hit targets.

Being fit and able to pressure is no longer enough. Footballers needed.

The thing for me which is most concerning is our stoppage setup when Gawny is getting beat.

Surely the midfield group have set plays that setup more defensively in stoppage to try and counteract these situations.

The North midfielders are talented but are still pups. We saw this against Freo and WC last year so it is something that has transpired before.

I always check out the bottom 6 but we had 8 of the bottom 10 players on the day and as previously pointed out by bing181 they had 13 of the top 21 players on the field. What has happened to Trent Rivers that would be his lowest score ever. I was expecting big things from Riv in ‘25, coaches have a lot to work with, we can’t delist them all.

however great for Clayton, Chandler and Salem.👍

To be fair, Maxy hasn't got beat that often over the last 10 years so you expect them to be in unknown territory.

Still, being accountable for your man shouldn't be that foreign.  Staying next to your man to create a stoppage shouldn't be that hard and should work in our favour

On radio tonight Daniel Hoyne said we’re bottom 2 for movement of the ball, with Carlton (not sure what the actual measurement or data is here but it’s also hardly surprising).

He also said we were -11 at winning contests in our D50, our worst result in 10 years and therefore under Goodwin, and conceded scores from 56% of inside 50s, our second worst result in 6 years. The forward half might be an ongoing work in progress but you’d like to think we see an immediate response in our back half this weekend.

The other mid who had a stinker was Rivers. Not sure that moving him on ball is working.

For the rest, they had 13 players who rated above 3.0. We had 8. Very hard to win games of football like that.

He didn't play midfield.

He had zero CBA's and played at half back for the game to cover for Windaor.

My bad (hard to tell from telly).

Equally, 6 turnovers and only 1 contested possession isn't a great day out wherever he's playing. And even when he was played on-ball against GWS (I believe?), he only managed one stoppage clearance and no centre clearances. Seems a bit lost at the moment, though he's not Robinson Crusoe.

I was at the game and It's the first time in his career where i thought he looked genuinely dejected and bereft of confidence.

He's trained all pre season as a full time mid and I know in an interview late last year that he stated he really wants to push in there full time and make a name for himself.

I can only imagine this would have been deflating for him that he's been reverted back to the backline.

After witnessing the midfield performance on Sunday, he would ordinarily get a shot, but he’s also having a stinker of year so far so why should he be rewarded?

Id make him earn it, make it clear and set KPIs and more importantly follow through if he achieves them.

  • xWin %: win probability based on expected scores.

  • Swing: difference between expected margin and actual margin.

  • xScore: total expected score from all shots taken.

  • +/-: total score above or below expected score.

  • xSc. / Shot: average expected score per shot. This represents the average shot difficulty.

While i'm not sure if he trained 100% pre-season for a mid-field role, my understanding is that a similar situation (allegedly) happened to another senior player a few years back, resulting in him losing confidence and form.

He may well have had other issues going on but this issue allegedly played a part in his downward spiral.

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
