NON-MFC: Round 02

From an MFC viewpoint you want two Melbourne teams to kick away and establish themselves in positions 1 and 2.

Hard to see that happening so ideally we want to see the interstate powerhouses lose which keeps the Melbourne teams including ourselves in the hunt for a top 4 spot. 16-7 could see a team top the ladder. It got Port second spot last year with the Swans on 17-6 being number 1.

Another loss by Freo would please me

very early in the season, but that means we are favoured by the competition being even, so best results for us would see:

  • baggers
  • draw
  • peptides
  • tiggas
  • aints
  • meth coke
  • us
  • flagmantle
  • gc17

Urghhhh, I would find it very funny If Carlton are 0-2, not so funny would be Hawks at 3-0.

Lions V Eagles could be a bloodbath. Mcwalter is going to find out how serious many of his senior players are about contributing.

I find it so hard to watch matches without choosing a side to barrack for. But the silly thing is by August each year a lot of results I cheered on meant Melbourne finished lower on the ladder, even if that's still 4th . But still I'll keep doing it

Voss could reasonably stake his job on the Blues coming out hard against Hawthorn. Curnow is a big in but it would not matter two squirts if Carlton brought the mental state they brought to the Richmond game.

It feels bizarre to say so, but I'd be looking at thursday as a 50/50 game with a solid prospect of outright biffo for flavour.

There's an unpleasant sensation that this season could see multiple clubs either fall horribly short of their aspirations and go into crisis that way, and multiple other clubs simple fall horribly.

Each of Fremantle, Port, Carlton and Collingwood could be exposed badly this season and find themselves faceplanting into a closing window.

Essendon, Gold Coast, North and Adelaide are all working under a significant pressure to show overdue progress.

St Kilda would be looking at West Coast like the Ghost of Christmas Future.

West Coast have Lions at the Gabba, Freo at home, then GWS in Sydney to start their season. My gut feels like I swallowed an avocado whole when I think about that scenario too much. Or perhaps it is simply the Ghost of Christmas Past, haunting me.

Strange side note - how will Gold Coasts 1 game on, 1 game off start to the season affect their performance for round 3?

@Demonland feel free to rename thread and do your thang.

Just wanted to make a brief comment on the expected crowd tonight. Drenching rain, Thursday night. Lucky to pull 25K tonight I reckon... where as  last Sunday Max Laughton the **** of a Fox News reporter potted us again about poor crowd turnout and neglected to mention that the GP was on and monsoon season for 1 day in Melbourne and we were playing GWS who have a total of 3 supporters, 2 of which are the pets of the only supporter known to exist.

Thank god the Suns have a bye this round.

They must be knackered after one whole game of footy

Think Blues can win tonight.

Dockers v Swans is a tough one.

Just so hard to know who to support. I guess the evil me wants to see a dozen hammies and ACLs from both teams.

Gotta do my baracking bit.

On my way to the MCG. I am ready to be hurt again 😁 My expecations are low but this Carlton side does have a bit of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde about it ... so one never knows ... Carn the Blues!

6 minutes ago, whatwhat say what said:

mckay out ill

So fewer behinds for Carlton, then?

I would have wanted that "point" call reviewed, and how did Cripps get away with a one- handed throw that went 10m

I can only ever cheer Carlton on if they're playing Collingwood. Barely.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • GAMEDAY: Gold Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons are back at the MCG and have a massive challenge ahead of them as they take on Premiership contender the Gold Coast Suns. What do you want to see from the Dees today?

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
