What happened to the thread about media hypocrisy and all that? Because ol' mate Barrett has excelled himself by proceeding directly from giving Hawthorn a [censored] for how much they 'don't care what anyone thinks' and how every club should follow their example - "The attitude is stunningly compelling and powerfully effective."

to Melbourne;

"seems a tad fake and even forced. Seems to be a lot of recreation of history, too. Oh well, it’s been a well-coordinated media strategy"

Am I the only one who looks at Hawthorn's obsessive social media attention seeking and sees... obsessive social media attention seeking?

Anyway, I was always going to watch tonight for the sake of getting a little warm-up dose of football, but I really think for the first time in my life I'm actually going to be wishing injuries upon a team. It's not like hating Collingwood or even Essendon, where the fault lies with the some mix of the club leaders, the coteries, the fan culture, and some particularly annoying individuals. At Hawthorn the players really have bought in to the whole 'precocious little [censored]' fantasy with a terrible case of main character syndrome.

Hmm, let's not say injuries, even now I can't do it. Let's just hope that seven of their players get pinged for recreational pee-in-a-cup results on the same weekend and all have to sit out the next two years while they wait for AFL lawyers to bother submitting paperwork.

Lmao, Barrett can barely pass as someone his mum would be proud of. God forbid, but Barrett can suddenly pass and no one would give a [censored].

He’s an absolute stain. Wouldn’t pay much heed.

Worpel and Weddle sound like a terrible comedy duo

For Sunday's game, how do you go from potentially 70mm of rain to potentially just 5mm of rain in the space of 24 hours.

I was leveraging off GWS slogging it out in heavy conditions in preparation for our game next weekend, but now it looks like it could be a dry game

Never been a cyclone in Brisbane before.

I'm just keeping a mental log. Think of each tedious repetition of the company lines as another tick on the countdown to bloody revolution.

Honestly, Sydney this last week has been significantly different weather every 6 hours. Not whimsically so like Melbourne weather, but in deep mood swings that settle and then swing around all over.

I think you're missing a 'was', unfortunately.

The PerilAUS database shows there have been 46 tropical cyclones near Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Most have been minor; the most damaging were tropical cyclones Dinah in January 1967 and Wanda in 1974.

And the rain isn't drizzly or misty like is often the case in Melbourne.

I've had the same load of washing rained on 3 times this week, because the weather changes are sudden and not as forecasted 😅

Looking forward to tonight. Seeing if the hawks can continue on from last year and how the swans bounce back after that hideous gf.

Also good luck to Dean cox in his 1st game as coach.

So are people tuning into ch7 or foxtel?

No bt & I like jb & Al Nicholson but I'll take Gerard & huddo tonight.

Best thing about friday night footy tomorrow….

No BT, No Darce

Huddo and Whateley

I get that some don’t like Gerald but he is a great call. No BS dukes wheels and sizzlers - just calling the game

Do people still like Huddo? I am not sure I rate him that highly anymore. Still better than BT though.

The footy is back baby!

Hoping the hawks return to earth with a thud. And that jumper looks sheet.

I think Swans by a 10+ goal margin which will send all the pundits that selected Hawks as  their premiership favourite back under the rock they crawled out of.

Truly dreadful that guernsey. Especially for a season opener with zero clash between their main guernsey and the Swans.

Yep huddo is clear in his calling, rarely makes a mistake and has come up with some of the best one line calls in the game

No poos and wees for the Hawks tonight. Just poos and whatever that other colour is.

Did the printer run out of ink for the Hawks jumper??

Look out for the BWS ‘on my way’ ad during the match. The girl is a Dees fan complete with red and blue nails ❤️💙

I very much like Huddo commentating. He doesn’t go “off-topic” like so many others do.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.
