There are only five people who need to be consulted about this deal: Bella, Jess, George, Louis and Clarry's therapist.

Hopefully if this does happen we stop playing the nice guy in trade negotiations, I would love to see us show a bit of back bone. Bring out our inner Peter Bell / Adrian Dodoro..

Yeh cause that worked so well for Freo and Essendon

Hey not my fault his family aired everything out publicly

Jackson says he’s staying ..his coach isn’t worried ..sounds like a beat up like the Clarry stories here. If it was true it’s been stated it would only be the MFC because of his relationship with Goody & some teammates. Half this forum want Goody gone …🤨

The story may well not be completely true but there’s smoke billowing out of Freo and there’s no new Pope there as far as I know.

The barking from MacLure and Corn-bread every time there is a Kozzie rumour about leaving is deafening.

Haven’t heard either say boo about the possibility of the Dees nabbing a high-profile player back.

Nah this will just get them started on trying to get him to Collingwood, Geelong or Hawthorn.

If Jackson comes to Melbourne (which anyone who thinks the deal is completely off needs to be reminded of Dan Houston and Tom Barrass’ comments on their future early on in the season last year) it’ll be on a 7+ year agreement on far more than his current 900k deal. Because that’s what the new CBA reflects. 900k when he signed at Freo is now around 1.1 in the current market. 1.3m for 7 years would be in the range of a deal if it was to be done.

Again Jackson ‘coming home’ is certainly not off, more so just buried a little because it’s so early on in 2025 👀

The plot thickens

So long Kozz

That is possibly/probably going to end up the case.

He has family and friends at Freo and in the West and while he obviously loves the Dee’s the pull may be too much for him.

I would start to look at what deals we can do and I would be getting in Treacy’s ear to find out if he would like to return home.

We could add Woey to Kozzie for example and someone/something else to get deals done.

This year could be a list changer for us.

Here's a question; if the choice is between him and Koz who would you go with?

It could well end up a straight swap Koz/Jacko, and I'm not gonna lie that would still be difficult to swallow. Koz has the ability to be one of if not the best player in the comp, he has all the tricks and to see him do it for another club would hurt. But then Jacko could fill the void of what we're lacking right now, a quality tall. Not to mention it could work better with Max coming to the end of his career, LJ can step into his enormous shoes.

But this is actually insane that it could happen, who knows maybe a few years down the line Koz decides Perth isn't the place for him after all!

For me this is a total no brainer - I'd take koz all day every day.

Medium goal kicking small forwards who can run thru the middle, have serious wheels and tanks and can apply elite pressure are arguably the most important players in footy atm.

That said, a swap of Jackson and koz (with some extras to us) seems such an obvious elegant solution that I feel like it is a probable outcome.

And if it does, as much it would break my heart to lose koz (in much the same way as it was when the wiz went home), getting Jackson would be massive compensation as it immediately solves two key problems fie us - a quality second ruck (which frees up jvr) and a succession plan for maxy.

But, if we could somehow keep koz AND get Jacko that woyld be a huge game changer for us.

It's an interesting one given we have some young WA talent and KP but if you jump on the comment seection that facebook page Flagmantle it seems their fans think its fair to do Luke Jackson for Pickett and a first rounder.

Freo have a few like Treacy and Murphy Reid i'd like to have a chat to.

I'd rather retain Pickett but think that's wishful thinking at this stage

Agree with you, but I think that Jacko is the bigger need and imo without of course any knowledge, have the feeling that barring injury, Jacko will be playing a lot longer than Kozzie. I think Jacko’s size and role will allow him to play longer than Kozzie, who will eventually lose some of his pace and magical ability.

Anyway, if both boys want to change clubs, I am pretty sure it will happen.

Seems Kozz wants to head to WA. I’d much prefer Jackson to a draft pick. I’d be disappointed if we didn’t get steak knives. If Jackson wants home other clubs will circle. Plenty more to play out.

The funny thing is they don’t actually need a Kozzy type. They already have Bolton and Dudley who are both good players. To be honest they don’t need many players, they are pretty stacked of talent.

What They need is a new game plan.

Then I wonder if the coach can be part of the trade instead of Kozzie?

<couldn't resist a weak joke - I personally have no opinion on whether Goody should go or stay>

If Jackson applied himself he'd be one of the best players in the competition.
He seems abit too laid back for that though.

I also don't think Kozzie going back to hang with the relos is a good idea.

Should be good for WA boys retention

The problem is if we can keep Kozzy, we might have to package up one or two of our WA boys...

I'm not sure how this gets done if Kozzy wants to stay.

It could be good now because it leads him back to us, but I think it says more about the type of person he is.

The fact that he was influenced by his family and friends to move back to Perth, then within 5 months of dating this girl has been influenced to cut off all ties with almost all his friends/family in WA says that he doesn't really think for himself and we could find ourselves in a similar situation again.

And on the other side of things how well can he really play when he has all these off field issues going on in the background? I don't think they'll suddenly dissappear just because he's moved across the country.

This is a good take

Lots we don’t know

Second rounder and something future.

No-one's going to be playing hardball here, if players want to leave they generally get to where they want to go. (Wade Derkson excepted).

The size of his contract may give us leverage here. If we're paying his whole salary at their ridiculously inflated wage, they'll have to do more if we give them Kozzy...

Come on, Red. Woey is not moving the dial in any direction.

At least it’ll be an easy photoshop job for Demonland when he returns 😂

I think we need to keep adding to the Windsor, Langford and Lindsay age demo as the next key nucleus. That's the pickle landing LJ and keeping Kozzy gives us.

But maybe we have to look to trade forward our future firsts again.

This years trade period will be the first time we can trade picks two years in the future. While we don't have this years first pick, we can trade 2026 and 2027 picks to move up the draft order this year, or use those future picks to trade for players. MFC have been a trailblazer in future pick trading, considered the best in the AFL at it. I imagine that will continue with another years worth of picks to work with.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
