You're slightly right. But didn't Brisbane lose their first 3 games last year? And isn't the Freo game a practice match?

I’m talking about Freo in season but the practice match will offer some insight

If you're a St Kilda supporter you must be wondering where the club is at. Whether you agree with King's rather laboured approach to this particular analysis or not, St Kilda seems to have been going backwards year after year since Ross Lyon's appointment.

There was a very good conversation on SEN yesterday about this - essentially, have they simply over performed with the list they have, and have they done enough to bring in early elite talent?

Summed up by Jack Higgins last minute goal, pushing them back from pick 5 to pick 7 in the draft

Travalgia and Tauru could have been Langford and Smillie (Battle compo)

It's actually a really measured analysis by King.

Cornes on the other hand is just flat out embarrassing for a bloke paid to discuss footy.

I mean, his lack of knowledge is mind blowing. Just so lazy

I don't mind he picked us to win less than 11 games in and of itself. But, honestly who could respect or take that analysis seriously?

He asks a reasonable question - where will the improvement come from?

And he's right that we didn’t strengthen our side in any major way with our trading.

But he doesn't mention we added two first round draft picks, one being a a top 5 pick who will almost certainly play round one - and improve us.

He doesn't mention the natural improvement of young players like Windsor, Turner and Kolt.

He mentions gus and notes we didn't have him last year. But doesn't note we were down 4 senior players (smith, spargo, gus and brown) all last season, so basically played with a list of 40 not 44 (and didn't have melk for more than half the season or McAdam for much of it, or as King noted tracc from round 13).

At this stage we are starting the season with a list of 44, which is a big improvement right there.

And most of all he doesn't mention the two obvious areas of potential improvement- a much better situation in terms of injuries and a preseason that is miles better than last year in terms of the percentage of players doing most sessions and a much smaller rehab group.

His comment about us having a 'brand new' game plan this year reflects his laziness - just two days ago the Hun had a huge interview with goody who said that we implemented a new game LAST SEASON, only reverting to the old method at the butt end of the season.

I get cornes is all about clicks and controversy but that discussion was nominally supposed to be some sort of analysis. Just pathetic.

You didn't mention Oliver. Maybe because his likely improvement is so obvious.

I thought about it, as cornes didn't mention that likely improvement either.

Oliver is covered under the better preseason and less injuries catch all - but you're right, if clarry gets back to anywhere near his best that alone would make us significantly better than last season.

I mean, bloke is one of the best players I have seen play, one of tge best of the modern era.

Kane Cornes the cheerleader for Hawthorn and how great they have been in turning their list around said the below leading into the 2023 season, he’s a moron

Kane Cornes and Matthew Lloyd are both worried Hawthorn may be cutting too deep, with the potential to lose Tom Mitchell, Jaeger O’Meara, Jack Gunston, Ben McEvoy and Liam Shiels in one off-season.

The moves would leave 31-year-old Luke Breust as the most senior player on the list, with Chad Wingard (29), Sam Frost (29) and James Sicily (27) the next oldest.

They will have cut nine of their 13 oldest players from their 2021 list and Cornes believes it is exposing a young core that isn’t quite ready.

“I think it’s about the balance for me. They’ve got these players leaving and yes they’re going to the draft, but they’re not going to the draft with anything significant from the Tom Mitchell trade, or the O’Meara trade,” he told AFL Trade Radio.

“You can still go to the draft, keep the experienced players around you and the best example of it is what Collingwood did.

“I mean, you’re giving yourself no chance next year. Collingwood finished 17th the previous year. They kept Taylor Adams, Darcy Moore, Scott Pendlebury, Mason Cox, Jeremy Howe, Steele Sidebottom, they kept the experience around them, but they also invested in youth and gave them opportunity.

“What Hawthorn is essentially doing is saying ‘we’ve got no hope, we’re essentially tanking’.

“I rate Sam Mitchell highly as a coach, but not many coaches survive three or four years of a hard rebuild. I can see it being ugly for two or three more years.”

Matthew Lloyd believes the Hawks don’t yet have the elite core of young players to carry their future hopes.

“I think the Hawks have some good young players, but they don’t have the cream of the crop. That’s where it’s going to be a really tough season next year,” Lloyd said.

“I really like Will Day, he’s got to get a really good pre-season into him. He’s injured a lot, he needs to get stronger, he hasn’t got the muscle tone he probably needs, but I can see what he does. He’s going to be an elite player.

“Josh Ward was pick seven, you hope he goes on. He’s a workmanlike player at this point, but you’d hope he can become like Andrew Brayshaw. Connor MacDonald was taken in the 20s, but it will be interesting to see how dire it is going to be for a year or two and I think they are cutting too thin.”

Hawthorn hopes to add Fremantle ruckman Lloyd Meek before the end of the trade period, but will attempt to work out trades for both Mitchell and O’Meara.

cornes changes who he froths over on a fortnightly basis, and lloyd hasn't had an opinion that he won't immediately flip on based on the last person that he's spoken to about it

they're both terrible

And so many opportunities to use it in the modern world, especially in relation to Cornes and Bolt. Pity we forgot to teach English as an important language. 🤦‍♂️

  • GAMEDAY: Geelong

It's Game Day, and reinforcements are finally arriving for the Demons—but will it be too little, too late? They're heading down the freeway to face a Cats side returning home to their fortress after two straight losses, desperate to reignite their own season. Can the Demons breathe new life into their campaign, or will it slip even further from their grasp?

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
