I have just returned to The Manor after watching my first training session in about 2 years.  I followed that up with a pleasant luncheon at The Duke along with a currently expelled Demonlander.

Just a couple of observations.

Tmac. In rehab but geez I reckon he’s shed a few kegs.

Clarrie. Also looked in terrific condition and moved really smartly in both match sims and other drills. I reckon he’s back !

JVR. Was very clean with his hands. Admittedly he wasn’t under real pressure but I’m hoping he’s developing into a one grab man. Was also moving very well and exuded confidence in everything he was doing. Big year coming up?

Trac. Looked ripped as ever and, perhaps more importantly, looked at ease with the world.

Tom Campbell. First time I’ve seen this bloke. He’s a big bastard. Looks a real head beater!

Harvey Langford. Saw him do a bit. He  seems very comfortable in the group and demonstrated good kicking skills. He will be a good size when he adds a bit of upper body muscle.

PS. I was going to buy a snag but there was a rough looking sheila behind the till. I reckon she was carrying a shiv so I kept my distance.

Good afternoon your Lordship I am planning a visit to training in the next two weeks. I always have to remind myself that training is like dancing with your sister. We look world beaters. Most teams look good in January.  When watching training there is always a missing element. It's called a seriously talented opposition.

Sparrow sat out training after a heavy hit on Monday with a laceration on his cheek that needed multiple stitches. (Unsure if he’s officially in concussion protocols but not taking any risks) Chandler has a slight ac joint injury, not a serious one. Club isn’t too concerned.

Kynan Brown escaped the “syndesmosis” with his ankle injury (from Monday’s session) which is great news.

But I just saw the headline on the herald sun about kozzie not being at training. Is this his first session he's been absent or has he already missed a few?

Good question on whether this is Kozzie's first absence from training or if he's been away for a few days. If it's the latter than the Herald Sun are in their rights to make a bit of a fuss out of it.

You'd suspect the club is tailoring his pre season differently to others given he won't be seen until 4 April, down at the Cattery.

Some great photos of training on the club website. #35 made my day!

Hi.

No, not high. 🤪

Unless you mean high on life in which case yes, Clarrie’s floating on a cloud of confidence and positivity 🤗

Apparently Kosi has missed training on Monday and today😱

He’s attending to a family issue interstate (idk which state but I’m guessing WA). The Club is fully behind him.

I thought he had some rels in SA as well.

Just some commentators trying to justify their existence!

He does, but I was thinking WA because that’s where his Nan is. Of course, it could be any family member.

That must’ve been when I was on my one and only break 😁

But seriously, what a terrible way to describe the 13yo girl who filled in for me. Shame on you!

Clarry. Sorry for the confusion. In future I'll use "Clayton".

It’s not Clarry you are confusing us it’s the use of Ollie!!!

Anyways the training observations are all well and good but I’ve got the most interesting news… I sold Mr Petracca Senior a snag in bread for his granddaughter Bella (Tracc’s niece) and boy, is he a lovely person! This is little Bella…

Like any passionate football fan I've seen any number of uber talented players accross all teams over the years.

With no exaggeration in my 50 plus years of watching footy, claz is in my top 10 in terms of pure football iq and talent.

From 0.56 of the vid above suggests we should all be very excited about claz this year.

A reminder just how bloody good he is - and what a bounce we'll get having him fit and firing next season.

He'll be like adding a ready to roll number one draft pick straight into the side.

He's my fav ever demon, he still gets underrated even by Melbourne people I reckon!

Some other thoughts about training today.

Melksham and JVR were the most effective forwards. Both seem set for a bright 2025. Fritsch was also good but played further from goal much of the time... still managed to snag 2 or 3!

Billings and Short spent a lot of time on each other (on the wing I presume, although they roamed far and wide). I thought Billings had the better of the duel.

Roy G was more involved today. Ricky Mentha was impressive in run and carry

Jed Adams has definitely improved and is having more impact as a key back.

Jack V is running with the ball more than previously, but his opponents know that they can catch him and did so on more than the odd occasion.

The stand outs for me in match sim were Clayton & Caleb, closely followed by Rivers, Fritsch and Melksham.

McAdam was offering good leads and took several marks in front of opponent.

Bill Bailey is also having more input than previously.

Tom Campbell is the dominant ruck with Max being on lighter duties.

Langford and Lindsay did well with ball in hand but were not prolific (Clayton, Caleb and Rivers were)

NOTE: Slarti just expanded on another reason why I didn't notice them!

Well i hope Viney gets that out of his system during training and not do that in a game.

I think it's more that no-one calls him ''Ollie".  Although it wasn't hard to know who you meant.

I call him Ollie, obviously!

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #5 Christian Petracca

The superstar Demon midfielder made a successful return to the fold after his devastating injury last year and the subsequent fallout from the treatment he received, during which time he sought to depart the club. Petracca's professionalism and strong play, both in the midfield and up forward, were outstanding and resulted in him being runner-up in the club's best and fairest count. However, early this week, the club's new CEO, Paul Guerra, confirmed that the under-contract Petracca has again requested a trade, adding that he would only be allowed to leave for a “quality offer that turns our head". No doubt some Demon heads are already spinning.

The former first-round draft selection experienced an average second season, marked by participation in several VFL games, as well as three matches in which he was subbed out. He is nevertheless, a highly regarded talent capable of playing on the wing or behind the ball, with additional aspirations of developing into a centre square midfielder over time.

The Demon stalwart surpassed the number of his father's appearances for the club towards the end of the season. As he approaches his thirties, his pace is inevitably slowing, and he is likely to explore alternative opportunities beyond the team's midfield.

The Demon premiership defender who has the reputation the master of intercept possessions as well as great leadership qualities managed only eight senior games this season as he battled injury and form, prompting speculation that he might be enticed to look elsewhere.

“Disco” took his time (four seasons) but the mid-season draftee has been a shining light of Melbourne's campaign, improving to become a versatile option at either end of the ground. He has great marking skills which allows him to play as a marking target up forward or an intercepting defender down back.

The skipper delivered another outstanding season, leading the team from the front, participating in every game, and earning club champion honours, while also securing an equal record eighth All-Australian blazer as a ruckman.  Max Gawn is arguably the greatest exponent of ruck skills in the history of the game; an exceptional leader who has guided the club to a premiership, through the challenging times that followed, and now into the next phase of its storied history.
