Was he only offered a 2 yr contract to anyone’s knowledge?

We initially tabled a four year offer.

The good news is that the weak minded players who want the easy way out are leaving our club

Players like McVee, May & Petracca have been calling the shots for too long

The club is bigger than the individual & l can’t wait for King & the new Board to straighten this mob out

He’s not an easy player to value trade wise. I feel like pick 11 is overs but pick 29 is under. Maybe pick 11 drifting out to more like pick 15-17 post academy picks and such is better? Perhaps a later pick swap as well

I’m at the point where if we have to turn over half the list to get back to where we want to all go then so be it.

Sure. But it needs to be the right half. Losing McVee and possibly Trac is not a plus.

One has apparently had a bit of a sook because he wants to play a certain position and nothing else and well Trac… we all know why. So I don’t care how good they are for us it means nothing when they’re not all in. If you’re not getting rid of bad attitudes at the club then you’re standing still.

Should be making a call to Caleb Serong this afternoon saying that he has a $2mil a year contract waiting if he joins as a free agent in 2028. With Essendon being such a basket case I think Freo now might be my most hated team. Put the squeeze on their salary cap whatever way possible.

Agree

This is a bigger loss than some here are acknowledging. Judd was one of the central pillars to the team that was going to take us forward over the next 10 years, and often mentioned as such.

Yes, he had a down year, but he'd be a walk-up start in every team in the AFL, for good reason.

That's BS. He wouldn't make any of the top 8 sides on this year's form.

Rankine tore him a new one.

And he cost us the final in 2023 in the last minute. Jumped to spoil, missed everything & left Docherty to kick a goal.

Absolutely dumb play.

I wonder what his role was to be? I heard after proving himself he wanted to be a rebounding half back, but was being pigeon holed into a small lockdown type defender. We already have Bowie, Rivers, Salem and others who are superior in that role. Perhaps King or the footy department just don't think he had the chops to be the best option as a rebounder? He was poor when tried up the ground in midfield, so they weren't wrong on evidence of so.

Anyway disappointing as he's in the age bracket we need more talent, not less.

Enjoy WA Judd. Look forward to a rough reception next year.

At his request is what I believe

Is Howes a decent enough replacement for McVee do people think?

I'm excited for Andy Moniz Wakefield in the attacking half back role.

His game against Brisbane last year was a very encouraging sign that we've got a good player. I mean he was BOG in the praccy match against North early this year before he got injured late in that game.

As long he stays injury free, he could have a big year and easily replace Judd.

Oh yeah well. Now it’s 1 year.

Cop that Judd.

Yes, he didn’t want to sign for four years. My understanding, as @Jaded No More has said, is that it was reduced at his request.

May doesn’t want to go, it came from the club.

Acres kicked the goal, but you were right on what happened, except you forgot to mention that Viney caused it, by kicking a horrible short kick straight to Weitering, that led to the Judd contest which he misjudged and then the pass to two Blues on Fritta.

Had Viney kicked it anywhere else, even out on the full, we win.

You’d think Ron Barassi was leaving. Judd had a poor 2025. His 1st and 2nd years were good but he came into the best backline in the game. A lot easier than debuting at North. He may or may not turn out to be a good player, but being ranked 426th in the AFL this year was actually a liability.

The whole thing stinks

Even if it’s true that he and Lily separated, it doesn’t explain waiting for 12 odd months to sign a contract you were given and had amended multiple times.

Lots of excuses re: role, waiting for a new coach, but IMO Freo and his WA manager were in his ear all year and finally got what they wanted.

And if anyone says “home sick” I’ll remind you Judd is not from Perth, and WA has two teams.

Funny how he isn’t requesting a trade to the wooden spooners isn’t it?

I realise that, it’s more his off & on field behaviour that needed to dealt with

I’ll just do a dump where he usually plays, they’ll know it’s about him for sure

It will be absolutely devastating to the entire league.

I’m assuming west coast have the first pre season draft pick so potentially that’s some leverage If Freo are annoying about the trade? I’m sure they’d pick him

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #31 Bayley Fritsch

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
