How about we up the ante? Let’s double it. Two bottles to the winner.

I fear for Judd if he doesn’t re-sign, as @Ghostwriter will be looking for recompense if she has to payout to @picket fence

Hey DD, no need to fear for Judd. I’ve never had a surer bet in my life. I’ve just proposed an upping of the ante. Let’s see if Fence is game.

This week would be a good time to announce he’s re-signed. We could all use mildly positive news after the debacle on Sunday.

This Is Fine GIF

Reading the mood on this site at the moment, it would probably be seen as a negative

He needs to grow up and take responsibility. Has really good talent but is poorly coached. Takes the easy option far too often. Isn't ruthless for a back pocket like pig was. Kicks backwards to a safe out all the time. Passes on the responsibility of finding an option upfield, which he would probably be good at. Needs to be challenged. I've been waiting for the last 10 weeks for some indication that someone in the coaching department is guiding him but nada. Makes me think they don't care, he doesn't care, he's leaving at years end.

Got two players ready to go in the twos next season ready to go, and I like them both.

With McVee's current form would he get into the starting line-up at Fremantle, I don't think so. After McVee's game against Adelaide, the selection committee should've dropped him after his poor performance against Rankine. We have kept playing McVee to ensure his trade value is at the level we expect to receive in return if he decides to leave.

It has been mentioned many times with players returning back to WA to play for Fremantle hasn't been the best decision in hindsight. Hogan, McCarthy, Lobb, Bennell and you can even mention Troy Longmuir as well. Longmuir was playing some great football in his 2nd year with Melbourne and wanted to go back to Fremantle. From memory Troy Longmuir went to Carlton after he finished his playing career at Fremantle.

So you are saying that everyone that plays against Rankine this year should be dropped, hes in all Australian form

Deal with him was agreed months ago

We gave him the 4 years he wanted

Everyone agreed and was happy

Absolutely no idea why his side hasn't signed and what has happened since

I can understand if he's re-assessing his options

that said, he's had a really poor year so he won't be inundated with offers from other clubs

Or perhaps he's already got a offer from another club, one that'll play him as a running half back and not a lock down defender

JUDD McVEE (MELBOURNE)

Jon Ralph says: “His contract will push back to the last round of the season now. The Demons are making it hard for him to sign just in regards to their form and morale and uncertainty over the coach.

“He’s had that contract in front of him for a full year. It’s not that he’s out the door, but it’s a challenge for them to try and secure him. There’s so many clubs that are interested in him.”

Spot on post. He has regressed this year.

Yes unfortunately.

Was thinking he was a Star in the making before this year, now he plays like his heart isn’t in it.

As if he believes there’s greener pastures elsewhere.

Hope I’m wrong.

despite those saying he has regressed and happy to let him go, let us not lose sight of the bigger picture here - a player we offered 4 years to earlier this year who by all accounts got what he wanted (h/t @Dannyz ) is now reportedly waiting to see how the last few rounds and FD changes go?

That is not good for the club is is bad optics for other players who we are chasing

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #42 Aidan Johnson

The VFL premiership player was recruited from Werribee to alleviate Melbourne’s forward line woes and give a chop out in the ruck, but he managed only five senior matches in his first season at the club. At times, he was a dominant force at VFL level.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #44 Luker Kentfield

An exciting young key forward, Kentfield was selected in the 2024 mid-season draft but has yet to make his AFL debut. He was sidelined by a severe bout of pneumonia over the summer, which consequently limited his pre-season. Upon his return a month into the season, he commenced in defence but ultimately impressed with his progress at Casey, particularly in the latter part of the season as a strong marking goal kicking forward.

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

Melbourne’s response to last week’s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coach’s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast. In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourne’s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.
