2024 Player Reviews: #42 Daniel Turner

The move of “Disco” to a key forward post looks like bearing fruit. Turner has good hands, moves well and appears to be learning the forward craft well. Will be an interesting watch in 2025.

To me Disco is a bit of a wild card plays back and seemingly forward equally well loved his game against Gold Coast, showed some flair and accuracy he certainly surprised Petty and The Suns backs. Hope he keeps on improving he has a strongish body that could take him far.

I think Disco - with more strength and confidence gained during the offseason - could well end up becoming our most improved player next season.

Needs to get fitter over summer and work on his explosiveness. Good mark, great kick.

Just hope they invest on forward craft teachings for him to work on, and hope the gameplan changes will help with that.

Always surprised to see him listed at 195cm as he moves much more dynamically / sharper / intensely than others of his height, and he therefore appears as though he’s a smaller player than he is. Get the ball into his hands more often and we’ll be better off. Lots to like. Keep building Disco.

Thought Disco had a great season and was one of our shining lights up forward.

Still can't fathom why he was the starting substitute against GWS in Rd 21 and again the following week against the Bulldogs as I thought he'd been pretty good in the weeks prior and plays both tall and mobile.  His accuracy in front of goal from a variety of positions, situations and distances was very good and he was actually a much more effective goal kicker over the season than Petty.  We only lost that GWS game by a smidge in the end and his goal kicking ability could have been the difference and kept our season alive.

Get some extra forward training craft lessons in for Disco as he showed what he could against a very good AFL back vs Suns with 4 goals. Dont know who could assist perhaps Neita?

I'm still in the 'low expectations because of how he was mid-season drafted' mode, which I probably shouldn't be. He has potential just like any player drafted. Though He'll be 23 and entering into the 25-50 game mark next year so with that comes a lot more expectation from him, also due in part to added selection pressure/who he's keeping out of the team, if he is in there. AFL is a hard caper!

Gee John I cant understand your reluctance to embrace Disco. His game vs Suns on Collins the very highly regarded FB was a real cameo in waiting of how he might develop. One on one and body contact plus his great pace and accurate kicking. If he fails forward he will still make a good interceptor down back.

Hopefully he has put on 5/6 kg over the break to help his chances of marking against contested marking beasts down forward.

I also like Disco’s attitude of commitment never give up and single minded determination plus his team ethos. A great teammate to have.

Not sure but he could be a 30/40 goal kicker this season.

Gives us something else. I'm not convinced his the permanent forward we need but he's a good option to call on.

I like the look of this player up forward.

He's shown some strong skills as a decent forward.

But it's early days.

Petty did the same in 23 but then for the most part was a complete bust as a forward. Returning a goal about once every three to four games. Ughhh.

Let's throw everything we can at sourcing a proven fwd for 25 and not keep hoping and gambling on finding someone already in our ranks.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
