Unpopular opinion, but if it’s at the expense of Oliver, I wouldn’t take it. I still believe Oliver can come back as one of the elite mids of the comp. He can still find the ball no problems, but just lacked the polish due to obvious reasons and the lack of match fitness as a result of.

I trust Lever and May can come back to peak fitness/form and with McDonald having a successful year down back amongst others like Howes who is flexible, I would be hesitant to pry a star out of their club under contract. Far too big a price to pay. Mackie is the new Dodoro, so there’s that… he would be asking far more than Oliver and a future pick.

On the flip side though if we were to lose Oliver, getting another potential Steven May for the next 10 years wouldn't be bad.

If it means getting rid of Oliver, then I am all in

B - McVee, May, Lever

HB - Salem, De Koning, Houston/Peatling

I don’t want to lose Oliver but surely including SDK would be the only way a trade with Geelong happens this year

Maybe when Trac goes to the Blues next year we can nab his brother and complete the set?

would have to convince De Koning to come which may be difficult right now

A decent contract extension would help. He has one year to run with players like Smith going to eat up cap space. Offer him three years frontloaded with Brayshaw money.

If an Oliver trade was involved it would certainly solve the salary cap issue for getting the other De Koning as a free agent next year.

De Koning and a whole lot of draft value for Oliver (and his whole salary).

They'd be taking Oliver (and Smith) on a 50/50 bet that it would either give them the surge to a premiership or wreck their whole cosy salary cap and football-political situation.

We'd be setting ourselves with a successor tall defender for several years and adding to a pile of late first/early second roud draft picks to work with.

It would leave our midfield very bare indeed, so unless we already knew we were getting someone like Brayshaw or LDU as a free agent in 2025, it is a massive risk in both short and medium term.

Your dreaming we don’t need half backs we need half forwards and forward talls plus mids all of whom can be elite at disposal.

True but I noted we ran Port to within a goal late in the year with an ineffective and injured Oliver and Trac out injured. Clearly we would need to bolster the midfield at the draft.

You are not very loyal are you? After all Clayton has done for the Demons and you are happy to get rid of him. Unbelievable!  Have a look at his record and having another look at the 2021 Grand Final wouldn't be a bad idea.

SDK is a nice player who lost form due to injuries but isn’t Petty our CHB of the future once we get a CHF?

Im a little doubtful on either Petty or SDK at full back, although both can make it work.

But more than that I’m doubtful on trading Oliver for a key back when it’s not our main need.

No one is bigger than the club, besides Oliver hasn’t held up his end of the bargain after signing his new contract. I don’t have any issue if we want to wait another year and see how he is going then but I’m not against a trade if we can work something out that doesn’t involve us paying his wage and get a talented player back who can immediately play a role

May maybe has 1-2 years and T Mac 1 year, so we definitely need another key back

You are dreaming SS You must know Peatling is not favouring us and Houston was last month. You are worse than the gremlins on Trade radio.

14 hours ago, whatwhat say what said:

he's a good player, but no star

about on a par with oscar mcdonald

Rubbish you either have a small memory about his play or you are a poor judge of player’s ability. Probably both.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
