A big ty to Kate for all her efforts and passion she brought to the club.

She backed Goody to the hilt during a tumultuous 2019 / 20.

We ended up achieving the ultimate the following year which i'm forever grateful for.

Kate was one of us as well as attempting to play a key role at club / board level.

I loved how she would happily mix in with the DA and have a quiet one or two when the opportunity arose.

Was hoping she would steer us through the Caulfield shenanigans but alas no definite outcome as yet which is no doubt beyond her control but still dissapointing that we seem to be always a bridge too far.

I see this last part as one of our most important cogs if we're to transform from a medium sized club, always chomping at the heels of the big boys, into finally cementing ourselves as a proper BIG Vic club from here.  We need some good news on this and soon imho regardless of who the new president is.  They need to get on with things quickly and get it done ASAP.

No, always the optimist, why make your life miserable by being a pessimist., although some on here seem to enjoy that, like watching footy games for mistakes only.

Not a fan of Brad Green's attitude to lockdown but understood it, think he will make a good interim chairman, he is not carrying any baggage (apart from maybe the trouser thing), so hopefully the noise will settle down and the ever hungry media pack will move onto Port or maybe Beveridge again if the Dogs lose tonight

I wouldn't say I am a pessimist. I'd say I'm an optimist. Get things right off the field and we're a huge shot at a flag in 2025.

Kate oversaw our most successful onfield era since 1964. She is arguably our best president since Bert Chadwick.

Thank you Kate, you were president during a period of sustained success. And when tensions arose you were happy to step down with grace, allowing a safety valve for the pressure in the club to be released. There will be others who have responsibility for issues the club is facing, who are not acting with your dignity, in many ways you were on a hiding to nothing. You are a class act. Note that Kate stepping down like this and in this time frame was not picked up by the media so well done club.

I wish Brad Green success, personally I was not a fan of the training standards he set when he was captain, a prodigious talent but as a player I felt like he occasionally picked and chooses when he went. Also a touch of FIGJAM and his stuff on COVID didn't strike me as a leader, even though I do support his right to have a different opinion. All that said, I do believe he has Melbourne at heart and hope his better angels seek to guide him to unify the club rather than take a zero sum approach to whatever conflict is going on. Personally I think Kate's most magnificent achievement was backing the coach 100% and ignoring the haters when she did so. We wouldn't have won a flag otherwise.

Thanks for all your efforts Kate

President of the MFC is a highly desirable role.

Communicating effectively with the “garbage media, pundits and supporters” are all key elements to being successful at the role.

Perhaps Kate is stepping aside for personal reasons, perhaps her abilities didn’t meet the challenges of the role. But the role is distinguished and anyone given this prestigious title, to then step away early, is going to raise questions.

The problem we have is that the info that Morris et al ran with was leaked from within the MFC.  That is when leadership from the top is required.  I have no beef at all with Kate and whether she kept her "nose out of the football department or not, is not the issue.  Our leaders should have been across the brief and cut if off at the source.

I can agree Kate did the honourable thing stepping down quietly. The rest… I give her the benefit of the doubt at this moment.

Kate will be someone with the drought breaking flag next to her name and the first women’s flag for the club. 

Hard to go past that for a defining figure in the club in modern times. 

Moving on at the right time too, also a virtue.

Without being accused of ‘signalling’ or playing with identities (for shame) - it’s also that much harder for a woman in this landscape and she navigated well. Mistakes were made, as they always are, but she bows out with grace and a decade of service to the club.

The sooner Steven Smith steps in the better.

Roffey's departure and the appointment of Green seems to me a recognition that the president needs to have football knowledge, not just knowledge of the corporate world.

Smith ticks both boxes.
