Had a solid 2023 season where he played predominantly forward kicking 35 goals 17 behinds in 18 games. Presents really well, strong mark, confident, reads the ball in the air and kicks straight.

This year played down back more with some high-possession games. Played the last two games up forward again where he again hit the scoreboard kicking 6 goals in three games. Has had to play behind so many quality bigs. I have no idea about the defensive side of his game which might have question marks but overall at just 23 looks really promising and has had to work hard for an AFL career coming in as a mid season draft.

Sounds like he's a good size but is entirely untried at AFL level.

Second round pick it is!

Keep at it, Andy. You’ll improve soon enough.Ā

Forgot to mention that he grew up with AMW in Darwin, same junior FC

Do not let Tim Lamb near this deal.Ā
Ā

It’s a good move if we can get him. Fits the needs !!!Ā
Ā

But consider he’s untried at AFL level (Derksen might even get delisted by giants) and wants to leave for family reasons. It’s a pick in the 50s at best for GWS. Ā

Could be ready to explore in new pastures after a few years in the system.

Worst case its depth after losing BBB and presumably Tomlinson.Ā

Ā

In his two seasons up forward (plus final 3 games this year) has kicked 52 goals at vfl level.Ā
Jefferson who is younger (20 v 23) so far has matched that

Ā this isn’t the year to be suring up the list at the expense of draft capital. The talk is this draft has at least a full extra round of players to be taken (80+ total) so third, fourth and fifth rounders are still a good space to land a gem.Ā
Ā

if he was steak knives to a larger deal for effectively nothing, tempting. But has a contract for next year so doubt he’s going for free.Ā

I say we stack our team with mediocre players from the NT now and then fleece the new club when it's granted a license and draft-pick bounty and all these kids want to go home.Ā Ā

Cal Twomey on gettable saying Melbourne in the box seat to land Derksen.

Is he any good? i know nothing about this guy or why we might be interested.

Probably suggests we don’t have a better key forward in our sights

Not saying he won’t be a good pick up, I’m optimistic

From the NT and is mates with AMW!

kicked goals in the vfl but because GWS have enough key forwards I believe he was used down back and on the wing.Ā
lots of positive reports from what I’ve herdĀ

A mature age mid-season draftee who has two years in the system and never played an AFL game. Probability says he's not gonna make it, so he'll likely become depth if acquired.Ā

Can't be anything more than a late pick swap at trade for such a lowly valued commodity.

So probably a Josh Schache replacement depth wise with the hope he can develop and surprise us?

Whilst I’m always hopeful is he just there to clog the list spot that Schache has left open? Is he more fodder for the anti Tim Lamb brigade?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.Ā

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
