Congratulations to Kozzie Pickett and MFC for getting this deal done, speaks volumes for Kozzie and everyone involved at the club. We can all relax now and enjoy the rest of Kozzie’s amazing career unfurl in the mighty Red and Blue. Kozzie, Kozzie, Kozzie, OIe, OIe, OIe.

He’s averaging 2.1 gpg this year which is rated elite, also elite for tackles i50, marks i50, centre clearances, one percenters and score involvements.

I guess I look at the games we lose like the Saints game the week before. Easy to stand out when we win. Don't get me wrong the freo & swans game he was as exciting as ever, I know the Saints tagged him but he didn't deal with it.

I also know the media are going to be harsh on him if he doesn't perform

Tim Lamb should repost this, but its beneath him

Demons’ ‘lie’ called out by AFL great as rumours swirl that star wants out

As expected, the usual media trolls are bristling with their criticism of this deal. Too long; to expensive. Of course, they have no idea what clauses are contained within any contract. I suspect there will be a range of "get out" clauses written into it, both for the club and Kozzie. There are also other aspects that are involved with such contracts. 1. It increases the value of the currency, should a trade be on the table in the future. 2. The marketing value of this signing is immense, in terms of potential membership numbers, sponsorships and making the club more attractive for players who may see the MFC increasing its gravitas as a destination club.

In business, this is commonly referred to as below the line marketing.

Can someone please out of the journos and experts that stated he was going to Freo?

It didn't happen and now it's a disaster for us? GAGFed!

If he signed a long deal for Freo it would be a massive coup!

This is how the Sun reported the Grundy 10 year disaster deal btw.

Grundy makes monster Pies deal official

He was set to the hottest free agent in the game. But Collingwood isn’t taking any chances with Brodie Grundy, with the superstar ruckman confirming he is staying at the club.

Love kozzie great talent etc and wrapt he’s staying but just a question on what is impact on these long term contracts from a list mgt perspective, does it impede on attracting talent through free agency or players coming out of contract or on the existing talent at the club, with long term deals to trac, Oliver they are hard to manage if things change

What a day… I can’t put my finger on how exactly, but I get the feeling Koz and this deal are mould-breakers. Maybe, just maybe, MFC have pulled off the ultimate 3D chess move and are reinventing a few things… Just so happy for Koz and his family, and the whole MFC family. Go Dees.

Never in doubt 👀

Same. I believe he’s often homesick (most interstaters are) but that doesn’t mean he’s leaving.

Absolutely fantastic Kozzy has signed long term ! So Important for the club

Listened to below link from AFL media this morning. Can’t believe there take ! More interested in talking about how this is going to make it hard for Kozzy to get of Melbourne now with this deal. Than actually comending Melbourne for providing him the support and security that he is happy to call Melbourne the club and city home for the rest of his career .

Geeze that didn't take long. Of course Ralphy - goose

Now for the final piece of the puzzle

Kozzi across the line, should be easy to tempt Q. Narkle back from WA

Hey Jonny Ralph

Unfathomable means incapable of being understood.

Just because you don't understand something doesn't make it a mistake.

The massive risk was losing him, he is the one player we cannot replace in the middle or up front.

Journos were banking on 12 months of Kozzi stories beating up in the Demons and then adding Clarry and Trac wanting to leave. But we got our [censored] together and they are having a sook

Comments from other club supporters saying we were played and overpaid, only thing for certain is he signed.

Its a beautiful day, now to win this weekend.

in 5 years time this will be a normal contract and he will be underpaid

I am by no means an apologist for any media mug, but I disagree with you on this one.
For mine they were actually being pretty impartial about it. They seemed to be be evenly discussing the pros & cons for both parties - and even third parties such as Flogmantle & West Toast if they still wanted to come after him. They admitted that it was a good get for MFC, but discussed the same issues that everyone else has regarding length of contract more than anything else.
Maybe I'm basking in the sunlight and looking at it through rose coloured glasses that comes with this fantastic news, but everyone will probably look at it differently.

Pop the champagne! 🍾

What a huge moment in the direction of this club. Kozzy on his way to legend status at The Dees, and so excited to see him run around for the red and blue for years to come!

That’s not how averages work, they include the wins and the losses.

And the media can get stuffed, most of them don’t know [censored].

This.

Get in line boys.

You just know that Kossie will have a stinker this week and then there will be hell to pay on DL re the length of his contract.

Good news! I used to worry about the length of deals like this one however after seeing the buddy deal unfold the Swans who got value even though he never got them a premiership from the move. Who knows how Kossi will feel in 5 years time he may still want to return home but we will have locked him in for the medium term which is all you can hope for in the 21st century. My attention now turns to get our KPF problems improved. Go Dee’s!

Nope he will kick the winning goal and we will think the deal is good value.

Over the moon right now . Might have to name the new dog Koz 😅

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
