I think Lamb has announced our intention.  Tomlinson has not been offered a contract for 2025 and we are happy that he “gets an opportunity elsewhere”.  There will be no trade.  IMV clubs won’t sign him as a UFA but wait for the likely delistings, and sign as a Delisted Free Agent.

Leppitsch … On Melbourne defender Adam Tomlinson

“He’s in that mix because we want some experience in that final (list) position.

“We’ll meet on that tomorrow and make some decisions with which way we want to go on that.”

Tomlinson was probably the only legitimate depth player we had this year. Did an adequate job when selected, but was a whipping boy of the match committee. If we intend playing Petty/Turner up forward, then we have no key back depth.

I've given up understanding our list management.

To add to that, you only have to look at our record when Tomlinson played over the last couple of seasons.  Between 2021 and 2023 he played in 21 wins and 5 losses.

Do you know who our KPD as Casey?

What was our record in those years without him?

Based on his VFL form last year Jefferson should be ready for games after one more summer.

Fullarton, despite the knocks on certain aspects of his game, can contribute it played as a leading forward.

Melksham is key forward depth. Hore probably stays as 3rd tall back depth.

Bad list management would he holding on to a 3rd key defender over 30 and playing him ahead of Turner and Jeffo.

Contrary to Tomlinson, Fullarton and Jefferson have virtually no exposed form at AFL level. And neither Turner nor Hore can't pay the May role.

At the very least. I'd keep him ahead of Hore, who missed a lot of games through injury.

If Tommo does end up going would it increase the chances of going for someone like Tauru in the draft? Looking pretty thin back there.

Yes

List management is evolving the list though. Jeffo was a first round pick who’s drastically improved in the vfl, it’s reasonable to expect he’ll be ready to play afl next year. Doesn’t have to be great, just has to cover what Petty did (or slide JvR to Petty’s role) and then Petty goes back to cover Tomlinson. Similar for Fullarton. We wouldn’t be asking him to step in to big shoes up forward.

May, McDonald and Petty gives us 3 full backs, we can use others at CHB if we have one of those 3 in the side.

Hore adds more value by being able to play as a back flanker (as depth). Injuries are a worry. I wouldn’t be adverse to moving him on for a mature pick up. Either way, we don’t need to keep carrying Tomlinson.

And Adams.

And Adams what? I don’t think he’s any good. Although with a preseason you never know and he has the body to mix it with men now.

Issue I see with Tauru - and lots of other defenders in mock drafts - is they're all rated as intercept defenders. 'Third man' types. We don't need another Lever, we need a replacement for May, both as injury cover next year and long term replacement.

Yeah interesting.

It is true though, all key backs at youth level seem to be interceptors and rarely your classic 1 v 1 full back. Almost seems like something they have to perfect once they get into the AFL system.

  • Demonland changed the title to Farewell Adam Tomlinson

I thought he'd go as a FA but I didn't think we'd just delist him due to our list position.

We must have something planned.

Hope he gets picked up in the draft by someone

Good bloke ole Tommo

Crazy to think we recruited him as a winger.....

All the best, Tommo.

Always tried hard, and had some really good games. Occasionally unfairly blamed when in truth he was not alone.

Bit of a sliding doors guy. He was there in 2021 when we were flying high, and did his ACL. Up to then he was playing really well, and may very well have become a premiership player - and perhaps not in this position. Obviously hard to imagine our premiership team any different to the one we fielded, but you never know. There would not have been cause to drop him if he continued playing well, and we were winning - which we were.

Anyway, he copped a bad injury, probably given slightly misleading assurances regarding being a required player. I think he still has some good footy for a team in need of someone like him.

Go well, Tommo! Thanks for your time in the red and blue.

His 8 games for us this year were very solid. I wish he was staying on but can understand he wants better opportunities.

Someones going to pick up a very good key defender.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
