Unfortunately a review all but eliminates any shot at the flag next year imo.

We need it, for the future, but it'll be harmful for 2025.

Pies had one in 2017. ย Missed a flag by a flukey Dom Sheed kick in 2018.ย

Tigers & Cats both had extensive reviews* and success followed soon after.ย  Actually, the following year (2006/2007 & 2016/2017)

At the time, both Thompson & Hardwick were under a lot of pressure but were kept on

*Geelong's was an external review as was Richmond's

Just one of the many similarities the Melbourne Football Club shares with the All Blacks.

Not a similarity I'm proud to take from international sport.

What are the others?

Bad attempt at a joke. All Blacks are one of the most successful teams ever and we're well.. Melbourne.

"Melbourne will complete an external review of the club in a stunning backflip on its approach to the on and off-field problems which have plagued the Demons.
The Herald Sun understands Melbourne is preparing to complete a full-scale independent review of the clubโ€™s performance in the football department and other senior positions after a turbulent year.
ย
The Demons have repeatedly denied they needed an external review but haveย buckled to calls to open the clubโ€™s operations to outside sporting expertsย to review operations.
ย
The thorough audit will involve people with considerable experience in successful sporting organisations including former All Blacks manager and culture and leadership specialist Darren Shand.
ย
At least one highly-respected AFL figure, such as administrator Geoff Walsh who reviewed Carlton and North Melbourne recently, is also tipped to be involved.
The club is in the process of approaching individuals with necessary skills to help identify and fix the problems which have hampered the club andย led to the resignation of president Kate Roffey last week.
ย
But Roffey may not be the only major departure as the review is expected to analyse the performance of all key roles in the football department.
Coach Simon Goodwin is contracted until the end of 2026. His right-hand man is football manager Alan Richardson.ย
ย
Club great Brad Green will step in to fill in for Roffey as president while the Demons attempt to convince 200-game former Demon and ex MCC president Steven Smith to accept a board position.
ย
The external review will be welcomed by the clubโ€™s supporters who are eager for the club to address the cultural and on-field issues which have troubled the Demons since the 2021 premiership.
ย
The club has not won a final since the flag and missed the finals in 2024.ย
Chief executive Gary Pert said in a pre-season interview the club had the best culture he had seen in 40 years but there has been recent acknowledgment the club needed to face its issues.
ย
The club hopes an external review can help mend the issues Petracca has spoken about explicitly in recent weeks to club leaders after considering a trade including the professionalism and standards of the player group.
ย
The review will be aimed to draw a line on the issues and lead to a fresh start for the club next season with a list which remains one of the most talented in the league.
Melbourne list boss Tim Lamb is spearheading the clubโ€™s mission to attract new talent to the club, including another prime big man, amid the turbulence.
ย
Port Adelaide playmaker Dan Houston initially wanted to land at the club but ruled out Melbourne after the Petracca revelations."

A later report from Jay Clark says that Pert is going to be overseeing the review, along with Shand and Green.

After Pertโ€™s running commentary on things expect a โ€œnothing to see hereโ€ report. Either that or the boot-studders and water-bottle carriers are going to be in big trouble to carry the can.ย

If there is a review it has to be "top to bottom" as Whateley suggested to Kate. Nothing official from the Club yet. If it's happening, kudos to Deemocracy I reckon.

Yep, we owe quite a bit to Deemocracy as of late.

Pert should be as far away from this review as possible, as should any other MFC employee for that matter.

From what I've read on him, Shand isn't going to be involved in something that's just window-dressing. But you only have to look at his background (sports/performance/rteam-building) to know where the focus will be.

You don't bring in someone like Shand to review the admin, it's not really his speciality and there are plenty of people on the Board who are capable of doing that. (Which is also why they're there.)

Surely not? If true, what a joke.

The Footy Dept is the #1 thing to get right and should take precedent. A whole of club review would be a mammoth change and is overkill.ย

I suspect once Smith comes in and the other board vacancies are filled a Management review will be commissioned.ย

A FD review will get to the heart of many issues and will pull back the veil of secrecy on many of our publicised issues: player behaviour, game plan, standards etc. There will be lots of change - much will take time and likely require new personnel.ย
ย

I can see Lamby leaving.

McQualter probably goes to Eagles

Richo ? Hard to say

Goody maybe out on notice. No more contract tensions until next year.ย

ย

Pert overseeing his own performance. ย
Thatโ€™s part of the problem!!ย

The external part gets a diluted in my view. ย ย

So nothing external when it comes to reviewing the Board or the admin?

Why not a panel consisting of Robbo, Purple, Tom Morris and Jay Clark. They know exactly whatโ€™s going on at the club.

Top post @dino rover. There is a significant body of research supporting the Dunning-Kruger effect, which describes how individuals with low ability in a particular domain often overestimate their competence. Recent studies delve deeper into this phenomenon, suggesting that the most dangerous person in any organisation may be the one who is both incompetent and unaware of their incompetence. This combination can lead to overconfidence, poor decision-making, and an inability to recognize or correct errors, potentially causing significant harm to the organisation and its stakeholders.

I found it interestingย

apparently Branson explains his success as not be being the smartest guy in the room but consulting and convening the smartest

i thought in the context of our President and her ability as a media performer it was relevant to consider her role and need to steer not row

also to reflect on some posts and posters

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
