What I saw at training yesterday: this kid has it all. He beat Tracc in a one-on-one contest to the loud applause of his teammates. I will go as far as to say he is much further advanced than what Tracc was when he was drafted.

please do go on...what did you see as his strengths and weaknesses?

His strengths/weaknesses were well documented in the lead-up to the draft. I saw most of them on display at training yesterday.

  • He is tall. Almost the same height as JVR. Almost 2" taller than Tracc.
  • Although not super quick, he was able to run 40-50m to receive a handball from a player who had just marked and kick it 30m to another leading player. He has a good level of fitness.
  • He loves a contest.
  • He has a penetrating left foot that can hit targets 40-50m out. Some missed as the session wore on.
  • Lovely one-grab mark, although I did not see him take a contested mark.
  • His quiet demeanour gives him an air of self-confidence and a knowing that he belongs.

If by chance we sadly lose Christian, Harvey will be well qualified to take over that role. Throw in 2 first-round picks, and I feel that we will be OK.

I too noticed an absence of contested marks in his HL That will make me stay quiet and reserve judgement for the moment. Everything else fits.

Earn a spot in my book.

I think he is just implying he is physically ready but this is no guarantee of a game

You're watching the wrong highlights if that's the case

Fair enough, I'll have another geek.

I'm with @dazzledavey36. My arms are red from pinching myself.

Can't wait to see Harvey in the red and blue, in the big time.

Kid is gonna be a gun.

Yep , got them this time, from the side as well as the palm, i think  plus a couple of others.

There's already a vacancy in the back 7 with Rivers moving to the midfield.

Lindsay would easily be in the conversation with Howes, Woewodin and AMW.

why and under what circumstances do we lose CP? You mean he gets badly injured again or he retires hurt or what?

Agree. I was joking, though not particularly well

if I was a betting man I'd give very short odds that barrimg injury he'll make his AFL debut round one next season.

I can't think of a dees draftee more ready for AFL footy than Langford . Viney perhaps,

And not just because he's physically ready (boy, he's a big fella) - just seems to have the right mindset and competitiveness.

He'll probably be a mid from the get go too.

Oliver.  2 Brownlow votes in his first game and arguably BOG to half time.

Contested marks are overated. Obviously fantastic if you have a player than can do that but its maybe 1 or 2 times a game.

Agree they are rare but it can change the way an opposition team sets up around the contest/ who they play on you if you’re known to be strong in the air.

A bit like a keeper coming up to the stumps to a quick bowler - the stumping isn’t their priority, they’re trying to keep the batsman back in the crease to aid the bowler’s length. Keeps the batsman honest.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
