We need to NAIL everything this offseason.

Yes we do but what does that entail? For me it would be, given we could have 7 spots to fill, at least 2 young midfielder draftees with leg speed & foot skills & add a mature, big bodied, inside possession accumulator. Then we need a 200 cm forward ruck to run cover for Max. If there is an opportunity, let’s find a big marking forward, but that’s second tier stuff. In the end the only sure thing is to go to the draft, get some kids who can run.

So only an Academy player or F/S can get in our way.

Ashcroft.

5 becomes 6

I know we need an A grade midfielder but what’s peoples thoughts on splitting pick 5?
Given the evenness and depth of this draft if we could get a top 10 and a later first round pick it might be worth it. Give JT two picks to work with.
Also I wonder if the combine might change the order a bit more this year than others. Could be a few bolters

I've thought this too. Perhaps Jason Taylor has a couple of players he really likes around 10 and 15. Would have to be a really special deal for us to part with 5 (6).

If Richmond end up with a whole bunch of first rounders and we could get one still in the top 10 and another, I like it

Absolutely not. We need an A grader that is ready to play. You don’t get them with picks 10 and 14 as we have been attempting

Need our second pick back from Adelaide.

It's not a bad pick now . For example it's higher than the pick at which we selected fritsch and I think rivers

I'm not adverse to trading our future first and dipping into the draft three times if the recruiters think the depth is there

'Nailing' this off season is definitely the catch cry around here. Hopefully next year there will be a nail death ride thread

Probably get pick 25 and later pick swap from Crows for the ANB trade

It’s a strong draft.  I would like to see us try to get 3 picks in top 30.

We need to be bold. 3 picks in the top 20.

I get picks are down graded due F/s picks, but JT and his team would not calculate this into their strategy. Recruiters will make their calculation and strategy with what is in offer,  not with what is not.

Recruiters look at talent coming through many years before the draft.

Not for me DD. This time around, I want scotch fillet, not porterhouse

I think there is a general consensus on DL that we trust JT to identify young talent, it’s Tim Lamb & Co that are the worry. If the thinking is that the P window is wide open and we need mature top ups, JT may not be getting the early picks.

The funny thing is I’m sure JT is involved in analysing talent from other sides as well. It’s not like Tim Lamb is just going out there on his own

I wonder who gets the final say?

Dont bother with the rib-eye, just get as much Kobe wagyu as we can

Can we trade up? Getting another champion midfielder as Trac, Viney and Oliver age is essential. Best we can.

It might be the greatest junior highlights package I’ve ever seen. It’s bonkers.

But it’s also just highlights, and I have doubts on some of the kicking especially where he loops it to space. That won’t work in afl footy.

Right now I’m saying he could be Ablett Jnr, could be Bailey Laurie!

He has incredible poise and an ability to weave through traffic. I feel like teams who pass on him may be overthinking about his height or speed not being enough. But if he’s just a natural footballer this won’t be an issue.

That future second rounder for McAdam hasn’t aged well has it.

It’s coming home me thinks.

I would have preferred it never left.
If we had 3 second round picks this year (ours, one from the Crows plus the one tied to Sydney), we could bundle it up for a first round pick from a club that needs bidding points. Like say GC or Brisbane.

Murphy Reid has a lot of Zak Butters traits that are certainly appealing.

Call me crazy, I’m still hopeful on McAdam. I hope he gets to the fitness required.

I love ANB and Chandler, but we only need one defensive HFF’er

Don't trade it! With Levi Ashcroft a likely number 1, we will have a choice of one of Jagga Smith, Finn O'Sullivan, Murphy Reid, Harvey Langford, Sid Draper or Josh Smillie.  All should be excellent AFL players.

Harvey Langford the Larke Medallist?

The last time we selected the Larke medallist,we took Cale Morton with pick 4 when Paddy Dangerfield and Cyril Rioli were still available.

BP also selected Scully and Trengove at 1 & 2 and the Tigers took Dusty at 3

They were the days,LOL

Speaking of #5 but did the Petracca thread get deleted??

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
