Here are the expected delistings (and tradings)...

1) Angus Brayshaw - sadly forced to medically retire

2) Ben Brown - retired

3) Josh Schache - just not aggressive or competitive enough

4) Joel Smith - for reasons we cannot discuss

5) Alex Neal-Bullen - traded back to South Australia for family reasons

6) Lachie Hunter - unfortunately too many injuries

7) Kyah Farris-White - probably best to just play VFL and bulk up his body more

8) Adam Tomlinson - will probably ask to be traded to seek more senior opportunities

9) Tom Sparrow - he continues to frustrate me with the way he plays and I am not against trading him back to South Australia

I used to think he was close to becoming another Petracca, and but he hasn't really evolved.

He's as solid andย  probably close to as strong as CP but I don't think he reads the play as well. He tackles hard and notches up a lot of them but yea I'm sure your opinion of him is not unique.

Can't imagine we would get a great deal for him but he does have a lot of experience under his belt now, so you never know.

Unfortunately we don't have a great deal of midfield depth so it might be wiser to hang onto him for emergencies. But it's not the strongest of arguments to keep him on.

i put this in another thread, but it's probably just as appropriate here...

i think we'll keep our top 5 / 6 pick, get the pick we wasted on mcadam back for anb (sob!), and use late picks to pick up two nga kids (riak andrew, ricky mentha) and one father-son (noah yze)

i think we can kiss our 2025 first round pick goodbye cos we won't want to hold it - not with a highly ranked nga (tairon ah-mu) and father-son (kalani white) coming thru in the 2025 draft

in the last game of the year we had the following unavailable for selection:

may
petracca
windsor
lever
spargo
brayshaw
hunter
oliver
smith
sparrow
ben brown
four of those are likely to be off the list, and two more - at least - could go too

it's an open bid on trac, which is very sad, but if he doesn't see himself as part of our future, so be it; we'll get value for his departure

i'd be open to trading:

  • petracca
  • laurie
  • bowey
  • fritsch
  • sparrow
  • woewodin

i think three of those have value, both incoming and outgoing, and two are depth for us and would be the same for other teams too; there's no real incentive for anyone to target laurie, sparrow, or woewodin as they're fairly meat n potatoes, or just potatoes if yr being cruel

retired:

  • brayshaw
  • ben brown

i'd delist:

  • hunter
  • schache
  • tomlinson (or he leaves as a free agent)
  • smith
  • kyah farris-white

that's seven players off the list + rookie list, and at least one - neal-bullen - certain to be traded for, probably, a second round pick (incredible value for him imo), so eight changes already and that's why i think milkshake and plugger mac will roll around again in 2025; if we don't have them we're looking pretty thin for experience at either end of the ground

we've got pick 5/6, that 2nd rounder for nibbs, a bunch of middling 2nd / 3rd round picks that we already hold (about three in total) plus later selections

possible automatic ins as late picks / rookie listings:

  • riak andrew
  • ricky mentha
  • noah yze

i really hope we target some midfielders who can move with a bit of pace and use the ball by foot; harvey langford would seem ideal reading the scouting reports for pick 5, but i'm not sure if he will last that long?

houston would be perfect, but that seems doa...

i'm disappointed we're not in the conversations for any of the gw$ or gc17 wantaway players like cumming, peatling, lukosious, although apparently we were keen on angwin...that seems to have gone quiet

going to be a busy off-season that's for sure

ย

Tomlinson is an UFA so he doesn't need to be traded. He'll either sign a deal with us or walk to another club for free. At his age and status it's highly unlikely the contact he'd receive at another club would get us any compensation.ย

Liam Jones did

It is unlikely but not outside the realms of possibility

Of the record comment from VAFA & Casey " KFW is playing the wrong game. he is a basketballer and always will be. He isn't suited to footy"

As for the others, I don't think that we will delist 9 players. AMW will get a promotion to the senior list of the Rookie B. Yze may take KFW 's rookie spot. ANB's departure creates a spot as will Smith (who I assume will not have his contract renewed). BBB has retired and Hunter is out of contract. ย Last year we went with 3 draft choices maybe that is all we will ย go for.

KFW is a Category B rookie, which Yze would not be eligible for.

I don't know if that would have any bearing on us listing Yze as a rookie, however.ย  I hope we can.

Schache?

Haven't heard anything. He would have to be on thin ice though. The fact they played him down back for the back end of the VFL season may indicate our lack of depth with tall backs.

Schache will be a delisting.

I would hate to see TMac in another jumper - too good a club man who has shown the highest level of professionalism to re-invent himself twice. He stays.

Retired - BBB, Brayshaw

Absolute delist - J Smith, Schache, Hunter.

Walk -ย Tomlinson (UFA) deserves to be playing somewhere weekly.

Trade - Sparrow. I really like the kid but Adelaide will pay overs to get him and we need certain list changes.

Consider delist - Farris-White. Melksham

He has a nice package of skills but his work rate and discipline to defend was a mile off afl footy. Heโ€™s never got close to doing a full preseason, which can be seen as a positive but also means he really has to do it now or it might be never.ย

He's a ball hunting mid imo.ย

Not sure why the FD haven't seen itย

He didnโ€™t have the tank for half back, he was never getting picked to play on ball this year. Half back was a good way to get him in the side given our lack of depth. Also got him an easy 25 touches a week at Casey.ย

I hope heโ€™s training as a mid/forward over summer.

Do we really think Tracca will go?

A mate of mine suggested that was why he was so forgiving of pies players in his last game when injured.

I haven't spoken to my mate since.

I reckon Tracca will stay.ย

Certainly he would go to the dark side .

As I've said previously, we didn't cut enough deadwood over the past two years. Now we're stuck in a really crappy position with the list.ย

Retire: B.Brown, Brayshaw, Melksham.ย

Delist: Hunter, Schache, Smith, Sestan, Farris-White

Trade: Neal-Bullen (only if Crows cough up fair compo)ย

Uncertain: Tomlinson, Hore

Would delist if I could: Laurie, Fullarton, Spargo, McAdam.ย

On borrowed time: Adams,ย  Woewodin, Kentfield, Verrall.ย

No, but here's a joke.

Q. What's the difference between a constipated owl and a terrible sniper?

A. One shoots, shoots and can't hit...

I think my post above is brilliant, insightful, balanced, thought-provoking and should become the basic template for the 2025 season list management.ย

Spargo was playing terrific footy before he was injured and carried that injury for a long time - one more chance? Iโ€™d love another small forward in there, doing all the pressure acts that would allow Kosi some midfield timeย

MELBOURNE has made two changes to its AFL list, informing Josh Schache and Kyah Farris-White they will not receive a contract for the 2025 season.ย

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven Mayย

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
