I haven't had a crack at a single person, not sure why this was directed at me tbh.

Sorry BLWNBA misread one of your post. Have edited my post.

Goodwin has a history of making hard calls on talented players who lack professionalism, so it is no surprise that Oliver is on the table for the right price.

With any potential Oliver trade, I would be much happier if we would accept less in picks and avoid paying salary.

The draft is still highly inefficient and you can pick up players without premium picks. Look at the Cats side last night, which included Atkins (Rookie), Close (Rookie), Dempsey (Rookie), Duncan (#28), Zac Gutherie (Rookie), Jack Henry (Rookie), Homes (#20), Humphries (#63), Kolodjashnij (#41), Mannagh (#36), Miers (#57), Neale (#33), Mullin (Ireland) and Tom Stewart (#40) pulled out ill.

If a trade rumour can knock him off kilter again then there’s no hope.

It's the suggestion that Melbourne might consider it that would do damage. And I very much doubt if that is true.

So well-said. And so true. Clarrie is definitely an emotional person. He’s emotionally fragile and I reckon the club is succeeding in working with him on this. And you’re right about it meaning a lot to him knowing we have his back; I reckon his self-confidence took a huge hit so any form of support and encouragement is gratefully received. He’s definitely improving though… wears his heart on his sleeve does our Claz.

He’s said on more than one occasion ‘the only way I’d leave Melbourne is if they didn’t want me and got rid of me.’ Sad way to word it but that’s how he feels.

That's so sad. I know people like that and can relate on some days.

I don't know anyone else in the club I'd rather give a big hug to, than our boy Clarry. He seems like a sweetheart who, like many, just wants to be loved, and probably doesn't quite know how much he is loved.

He has given so much to us, we should return the love he has clearly shown for the club and continue to support him back to his best self, on and off the ground.

I'm so excited to see him back out the next year. I reckon it's going to be a great year ❤️

And a reasonable offer for a four time B and F, 3 x AA, 2x Coaches Assocn best player, would be .......

Perhaps Cripps and Bont in a package.

Players like Clarry - which is an oxymoron anyway - don't grow on trees.

Guys, I’m hearing that Clayton is not totally off the table.
He’s gettable for the right offer.

I don't think anyone would believe Melbourne wouldn't trade Oliver. Just that why would anyone want to approach us for him.

From what I'd heard, Oliver loves the club, desperate to stay, melb had given up the thought of shopping him and rather working through stuff with him due to the belief teams wouldn't be interested.

11 hours ago, goodwindees said:

Let me say very clearly that the Dees are not shopping Clayton, but they have been asked if 2 first rounders would get it done, and I believe it wasn’t totally shut down / dismissed.

Have to take that if that's been offered

So you’d take two first rounders even if those were in the late teens?

Theres a big difference between two top 10 picks and two first round picks.

Don’t mean to go all Karen on everyone’s @ss but does this not qualify as an unsubstantiated rumour? Or that’s not a thing anymore 🤷‍♀️

As previously mentioned, the guidelines regarding trade rumors on this website differ from those addressing more harmful and potentially libelous unsubstantiated claims. While unsubstantiated trade rumors may circulate, they are distinct from allegations about personal health, illegal activity, or other statements that could be considered defamatory.

Demonland may, at times, choose to remove certain allegations, even those that may have a basis in truth, in order to protect the individuals involved. This decision is not taken lightly but reflects our commitment to maintaining a respectful and responsible community. Even if a rumor or allegation contains elements of truth, the potential harm it could cause to someone's reputation, privacy, or well-being is taken into consideration.

It's important to note that the rules on Demonland have evolved and continue to remain flexible. Over the years, this platform has seen a number of posters who have proven reliable when it comes to trade news, and there are certain individuals whose information is held in higher regard by the community. However, even with credible sources, trade rumors should always be approached with caution, as circumstances can shift rapidly. Exercise your own discretion when evaluating the information shared here or on any other platform.

The forum moderators are mindful of posters with a strong track record and will use our judgment to assess new trade rumors from other sources. If we believe a rumor is shared in bad faith, we will take appropriate action. However, we acknowledge that we are not infallible, and the rules may continue to change or be updated as needed.

If Clarry goes to the Cats and dominates that might be the last straw for me

Do we really need to fuel the rumour mill and help the media out?

I am not doubting this is true, but almost every quality player would have enquiries made about them and not many clubs would completely dismiss 2 first rounders for almost any player.

The inference that can be taken from this rumour however, is that Clarry is more likely to be moved on given past issues. So it becomes a story and more disruptive noise for us and Clarry to deal with.

I personally would prefer we don't spread this information publicly.

Very common sense approach, especially given in Fairfax Vs Voller the high court indicated a web forum could be considered a publisher and responsible for content posted on the site

@WalkingCivilWarand @Deelectable we have few poster on this site that have very few poster on this site who’s information is always very good and can be trusted as proven by their track record. To my knowledge there is only 3.
Let’s not have a crack at them when they are good enough to share that information with the rest of us. If it’s not to your liking maybe put them in ignore but don’t try to stop them sharing great info with the rest of us. It’s one of the great benefits of this site.

Side note has the ignore function gone? Can’t seem to be able to find it.

Whoa that’s unfair. I didn’t ‘have a crack’ at anyone, nor am I ‘trying to stop (anyone) from sharing great info…’

I asked a question about the posting of unsubstantiated rumours since I feel that that’s what this is, and it is. This has nothing to do with who posted it.

My concern is that information like this is unneeded. Why? Because unless and until it’s substantiated it has the potential to cause unnecessary angst, in fact, it’s already doing so.

Of course, as is always the case, this is IN MY VERY HUMBLE OPINION.

edit: I just read Andy’s answer to my question. It seems this isn’t breaching any Demonland rules. It still is however, in my opinion, not necessary.

Only takes someone with a big enough wallet to engage a lawyer.

I would suspect smaller sites probably just comply with C&Ds and remove comments on request to avoid litigation

It’s true… some players DO read DL. I don’t know why some people refuse to believe that (not you, Ollie fan). It’s a Demons forum and it’s a well-respected and respectable Demons forum, therefore what’s so unbelievable about players reading it?

I reckon this is true specially when it comes to the younger players.

Who posted it has everything to do with it. If Nudge from times past posted it, along with the dozen other trade rumours that he had, then by all means shout him down. But @goodwindees has a good track record.

It's naive of supporters to not think that there is wheeling and dealing done by the clubs behind a players back. If @goodwindees had posted that player x from another club is being shopped around, would you have the same objection?

Yep Twitter has an owner who is worth close a trillion dollars.

BigFooty...maybe is endorsed by clubs, managers...who knows.. would be interesting to know who runs and funds those larger websites.

Trust me… it’s true. One of our young boys quoted something he’d read on here about himself. How else would he know what gets posted on here? When I said you read Demonland? He said “Yeah, a few of us do.” I’m baffled by people’s insistence that this isn’t true. What’s so outlandish about it? It’s not beyond the realm of possibility.

That’s not actually what he said. He said the club isn’t shopping him around, but that we’ve been approached with an offer (maybe multiples?) and haven’t outright rejected it.

I reckon we’ve been approached by clubs for multiple players. Other clubs can smell blood.
Just as I’m sure clubs are in contact with the likes of West Coast and any other club that’s seen to be struggling or in a review process.

I complete believe what @goodwindees has posted, but even he clarified his original post as I think it made it seem like we are actively trying to trade Clarry, which is not the case. He even said later on thar he believes Clarry will stay.

Of course there is… there’s tons of wheeling and dealing. Why not post every single one of the possibilities/suggestions/offers/queries?

Like I’ve said already a couple of times now… IN MY OPINION it’s unnecessary and only serves to cause angst.

And if anyone posted about an opposition player being shopped around… I wouldn’t give a fat rat’s. Surely you know the difference. I also wouldn’t be receiving panicked messages from teenage Dees fans and an elderly Dees fan.

it’s my opinion and I’m entitled to it.

I love the bloke and I’m still contemplating getting a BANG BANG BANG tattoo but there are other things to consider (alongside his past accolades) to get a balanced view of whether we listen to offers;

a) struggle to finish top 10 in our b&f this year in a year we finished 10th

b) documented to have been exhibiting behaviour not in line with our standards for a number of years at a time the club clearly needs to make some form of change

c) brought the club to it’s knees at the end of last year because of his behaviour

d) seems to be in a better place and there is a chance he can get back to his best but that is by no means guaranteed

e) taking up a significant chunk of our salary cap for many years to come

Based on all of that, hard to argue 2x 1st rounders is an awful deal not worth listening to.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
