What are the odds an angry MFC re-release the Tom Morris recordings on twitter as revenge for this

I understand that Tom Morris gets under peoples skin, but he is just reporting what he is being told in this instance.

To try and give myself some comfort for this miserable situation, I checked what GWS got for the Jeremy Cameron trade (something like pick 15, 20 and 25).  After all they have managed to bouce back pretty well since then so it would make sense that that trade was pivotal to it.

Well in turns out they didn't get anyone of note (which maybe a bit unfair and early on Connor Stone) - including missing Holmes at 15 who the cats got and one of those picks Tanner Bruhn (pick 20) who ended up at the Cattery anyway!  😭

Everyone says this draft is deep and even so maybe it would be different for this one... but if the relationship is irreplably damaged I can't see us getting fair value.

I'm still holding out hope that the people required (surely a bit on both sides) come to their senses and find a way forward.

If we think that he has mentally checked out, we need to move this year to secure a good draft hand in this draft.
No guarantee Trac will be back to his best, no guarantees we will draft well.. but unhappy players are a cancer. Sounds like he wants big crowds, big spotlight and big IG audience.

I honestly think he is still far from not exposed with us.

It's not like Melbourne has lacked prime time games the last 4 years.

His only accurate complaint would be the underwhelming home game crowds, although it's not every game.

Maybe his heart is still black and white? 🤢🤢🤢 Makes me nauseous just to think of it.

You don't argue with someone who buys ink by the barrel. Morris is just reporting what he's being told.

I find it astounding so many have given up on Petracca so quickly. This club doesn't have a leg to stand on when it comes to airing dirty laundry in the media after everything that happened with last year with Oliver.

If the club can forgive Oliver for completely taking the [censored] last year surely they can put some effort into bringing Petracca back into the fold after everything he's been through.

So potentially within the span of 12 months

Brayshaw - retired

Oliver - linked to Adelaide

Viney - linked to North

Petracca - possibly requesting a trade

What the bleep has happened to this football club?

The Smith fiasco as well...

That's a very different scenario. Clarry never wanted out, nor did he ever go to the media to trash the club. His actions were damaging to our brand, but it was about him not about the club.

If Trac wants out so badly that he is letting people leak his discontent, that's a pretty big bridge to have to rebuild with the club and especially teammates.

We get decent to large crowds at blockbuster (rival big Vic clubs) when we're doing well.  Go to the Tigers for a big crowd... oh wait.  Maybe 5 years away from that happening again (aka 2017 - 2022 ish)!

I think the club will absolutely welcome Trac back with open arms, but supporters have a right to feel frustrated just as they did with Oliver. Go back 12 months and there was a lot of angry posts about Clayton.

I think we all now accept Oliver was dealing with some fairly serious mental health issues, which was very likely impairing his judgement and decision making. I believe the majority of supporters have now come to terms with that and as a result have really tried to get behind him to help him through it. If he has got that back on track then it will go a long way to him returning to his best.

Perhaps Petracca is having similar mental health issues, potentially caused by PTSD type symptoms. But if this is the case his manager should be guiding him through it rather than airing the dirty laundry to Morris. I have no doubt the supporters will get behind Trac next year should it all get sorted and he lines up for us round 1.

Cameron was out of contract and a free agent. Petracca is worth a lot more in a trade.

It's possible there are two different camps feeding info to Morris...

Trac's family who are all in on burning the club, and Trac's manager who is trying to appease the situation while also preserving his brand, knowing full well the chances of him getting traded are low.

The Morris report yesterday reeked of 'damage control' around a very fixable situation IMO. Perhaps that's his manager's doing.

Correct. We were top 4 or 5 last year for average home crowds!

It was pretty widely reported that Oliver blued with our fitness staff with regards to how his injuries were managed last year. Not to mention the reports that Oliver was meeting David Teague to discuss a possible move back in 2020.

But ultimately it's hypocritical if we're going to be outraged at Petracca for putting the club in the headlines when the Club was happy to give Oliver a kick up the [censored] via the media 12 months ago.

Also home crowds are irrelevant to his social media exposure.

Going to a club with 100,000 members is what increases his exposure. Look how much air time a club like Collingwood gets Monday-Friday. This is the exposure we are talking about.

Nick Daicos has over 250,000 followers, without trying to be a social media star, that's the power of a club like Collingwood.

I agree. Seems like an annoying person - and that previous work stuff was pathetic, although run of the mill for News Corp - but nothing about this suggests it's made up or grossly exaggerated. There's no hedging or weasel words - he's saying Petracca wants to leave - full stop. With the contract being the important part in brackets, of course.

Also, I notice a lot of people talking about two high picks and a very good player. Sure - that would be nice. But the "good player" part just never happens anymore. The moons would have to align in the most unlikely ways - i.e. a star in the team Petracca wants to go to is also unhappy. The best you could hope for is to get a kid with a big upside - Jack Crisp (and picks) for Dayne Beams springs to mind.

At the end of day trac is a professional first and foremost and regardless of what has gone on he and the club will work to fix whatever his grievances are. The reality is he’s on a deal that sees him to the effective end of his career and is been paid extremely well for it. There is no scenario I can see where a trade is possible outside of getting a player of equal value back, ie Charlie Curnow for Trac, picks just won’t cut it in this case. This isn’t a case of a salary cap dump or player who is a free agent in 12 months or someone who is going to walk away from the game if they don’t get there way. I just can’t see how this won’t get worked out as the alternative is to hard

And isn’t he managed by his brother? So that we keep hearing his ‘family’ are unhappy…the entire family are invested in Petracca Inc

That all of this has leaked suggests he’s not as mature as he thinks he is.

As much as it would be hard to see him in another club's guernsey if the counterweight was too enticing to knock back I'd be open to it on the one proviso that we don't trade him to Collingwood, which is almost certainly his preferred destination. It would actually be pretty funny to see his family have to front up to Marvel every second week in navy blue and white colours for the next five years. How 'bout them apples!

I believe if he ends up at Collingwood he will have to take a pay cut and shorter contract. I don’t believe Collingwood could take on his current contract aside from what they can offer us for trades and drafts in return. He would have to go there for love and not money unless Collingwood can insert some financial jiggery pokey in the deal.

All our fans were willing to give Clarry a break for some mental health issues that were probably exacerbated by his own behaviour. Heck half our fans don’t seem bothered by his abysmal form this year because he had a plate in his hand.

I’m willing to give Tracc a break for some errors in judgment when he nearly died for the club.

Finish the year, present a rebuild plan, present a reshuffle of the coaches, game plan etc.

If that doesn’t work then there’s the ability to move on. But I think we’re still in the fact finding phase of what to do.

I agree with most of this hut playing devil’s advocate, if the AFL allow clubs to trade picks two years out, most of those clubs will be able to offer first rounders in 2024, 2025 and 2026.

If he wants to go, Trac will put that to the club with a trade request and try to convince us that we’re better off with three first round picks than a player who doesn’t want to be here.

That's true.

But with the exception of the tigers, (who could offer us their number one pick this year, and probably a high draft pick in 2025 and 2026) the bombers, pies and blues can only offer mid first rounders this year.

And I'm sure all three clubs are hoping for late first rounders in 2026 and 2027.

That ain't gonna get it done.
