If itโ€™s Choc then that ranks pretty low on our order of problemsย

Losing Choco is no disaster. Fresh ideas are needed and I get heโ€™s doing great work with our young players but surely so can the next person.ย

His outlook on how everything went down has obviously changed, or maybe been changed for him.

Videos on YouTube aren't as easily deleted as IG posts, such as the one he posted from the hospital which was swiftly taken down.

The vibes I get is that the club, players, media and supporters are all getting different stories from Team Petracca. Are we anywhere closer to the truth of whatโ€™s happening and why? I donโ€™t think so. Itโ€™s an unholy mess and Team Petracca trashing his brand as well as our brand is the only clarity I can see.ย

Roffey really did herself no favours with the SEN interview, making it seem as though she has not had any contact with Trac. But Trac's own words in the MFC video indicate this is not the case. Trac also indicates he was getting a lot of messages of support after the injury from people within the club.

The reporting of what people have said / not said has been pretty poor by the likes of Morris/McClureย

Particularly if people are being guarded with their words to protect sensitivity

McClure especially likes to take a sliver of information, present it, and then loudly draw sensational conclusions (subject to some subtly mentioned if's) - it seems an attempt to create a reason to try and prompt further reactions to the story, and then have the reactions become the story and feed the media, rather than the underlying substance.

After McClure's intro the other night, a caller phoned 3aw and said how poor they thought it was that not one phone call or text from any Player, Coach or anyone from MFC for 2-weeks when he went into Hospital... was a disgrace... McClure thanked the caller for his call, before Richo jumped in and challenged McClure on whether what the caller said was confirmed, and McClure was forced to say no one said that he hadn't been contacted at all.... and then said that he thought the caller had "taken my story and put it on steroids"

Ok so it Tracc says Kate did reach out and did everything she could then I'm confused even more.ย

Just a reminder to all, and that is not to say that your mail or your claim is bunk @The Backyard Charizard, to take any nuggets of intel you read on the internet from anonymous people with a grain of salt.

There are some posters that have runs on the board but just be wary.

Again not taking a pot at you @The Backyard Charizard. It's just a Public Service Announcement for any readers (and we have a hell of a lot more readers than posters).

One of the major criticisms directed at Kate Roffey after yesterday's interview by Whateley, was that she hadn't contacted Christian Petracca after his operation. I think that criticism can now be retracted. This won't be the only retraction from the firestorm that followed the interview.

The question posed was: ย  Did you do enough during the two weeks following his horrific injury?ย

While she sent a text(s) it doesn't seem there was follow up in that critical 2 weeks, by contact/talking with his family.ย

Many are dismayed that she didn't offer them best wishes and support during that critical time.ย  She didn't say anyone else from the club did so rightly or wrongly it is assumed that they didn't.ย  It appears she hasn't spoken with his fiancee or the family since the injury 'because they haven't been at the footy'.

So is a text to Christian enough?ย  Is not talking with his fiancee or family enough?ย  Some may think so.ย  Many think not.ย

Yes that is my undeestanding.ย  Some in the media (surprise surprise) are getting their wires crossed or misrepresenting (deliberately or otherwise) what the message actually was in the response.

Part of this does come back to Kate's delivery though and ability to express clearly and make sure pertinent points were made when the opportunity arose.

She was left looking a bit too defensive imho seemingly due to a fair bit of inexperience and / or a lack of prepping.ย  Not an easy gig by any means but plemty of room for improvement from here.

This is by no means a disparaging view of Kate in general either.ย  I think she's a great people person and her love of the club is in no way in doubt.

I'll always be greatful for everyrhing the club brought us in 2021.ย  Hoping the sun shines brighter for everyone involved from here.

We need to lift the seemingly darkish shroud of late and move on as quickly as possible and reset on our path towards more success.

Yes and no. He is a great footballer and very good looking and a very good cook. But he isn't Hollywood good looking or a Michelin chef. Brand Petracca works only because he is a great footballer and AFL supporters are much more loyal to their clubs than other codes.

Not sure about that.ย  There are not so attractive sports people making a living from self promotion in the various ways I mention.ย  And those of yesteryear probably aren't social media savvy like today's sports stars are.ย

Today's sporting stars eg Bailey Smith, Dangerfield, Weightman are also making a very good living from their self promotion outside of football.ย

Demon fans may be more loyal to the club but I suspect we aren't his target market.ย  Ditto with the other three AFL players I mentioned their club's fans may not be their target market.

Melbourne Football Club: A Critical Reflection on Recent Turmoil

Itโ€™s astonishing to see the level of confusion and misplaced blame being directed externally when the reality is much closer to home. The narrative that the Melbourne Football Club (MFC) is a victim of media scrutiny or some external vendetta fails to acknowledge the undeniable truth: weโ€™ve been feeding this beast for at least the last 12 months. Now, as one of the biggest stories in the history of the game unfolds, once again, the Dees find themselves at the centre of it.

Self-Inflicted Wounds

Thereโ€™s no escaping the fact that much of the chaos surrounding the club is of our own making. The dysfunction within the club, which has been an open secret for some time, has led us to this point. While the premiership win in 2021 and subsequent top-four finishes in 2022 and 2023 gave us a temporary reprieve, they also allowed underlying issues to fester unnoticed. Unfortunately, the goodwill generated by these achievements has now evaporated, leaving us exposed.

The Mediaโ€™s Role vs. Our Responsibility

Itโ€™s easy to point fingers at the media, claiming theyโ€™re complicit or exacerbating the situation. However, this deflection only serves to distract from the internal issues that are the real culprits. The truth is, weโ€™ve been getting away with far too much for far too long. The media is merely amplifying the chaos weโ€™ve sown, and we must accept responsibility for our part in this mess.

A Star Fading into Darkness

The star that once shone so brightly in 2021 has faded into the vast reaches of the cosmos. The optimism and hope that followed our premiership win have been replaced with disappointment and frustration. Instead of building on our success, weโ€™ve allowed dysfunction to creep in and undermine everything weโ€™ve achieved. Itโ€™s a bitter pill to swallow, but we deserve much of the criticism coming our way.

The Final Straw: Leadership and Accountability

And then thereโ€™s Kate. Her actions yesterday, whatever they may have been, seem to have poured another gallon of petrol on an already raging fire. The situation has escalated from a mere โ€œdumpster fireโ€ to a full-blown catastrophe. Leadership is about more than just guiding a team on the field; itโ€™s about steering the entire club in the right direction, especially in times of crisis. Unfortunately, it seems weโ€™ve lost our way.

Moving Forward: What Needs to Change

The MFC needs to take a long, hard look in the mirror. Blaming external forces wonโ€™t fix whatโ€™s broken within. We must address the dysfunction, enforce accountability at all levels, and rebuild the trust and unity that once defined us. It wonโ€™t be easy, but itโ€™s the only path forward if we hope to restore the pride and integrity of this club.

In conclusion, while the flames of controversy burn bright around us, we must remember that we are the ones who set the fire. Itโ€™s time to stop playing the victim and start taking responsibility for our actions. Only then can we hope to extinguish the flames and rise from the ashes stronger than before.

QBD - what have been our issues specifically in the past three years please?

I think we lacked discipline late last year: Kossi then Roos' high bumps and even though they are young, it was disappointing.

Has our fitness programme been poor?

Your thoughts please?

Well said and not something I'd considered as much on the first listen to it.

Heart in the right place but probably found herself needing to re-clarify her stance more than she could have.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturdayโ€™s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFLโ€™s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
