Goodwin is the MAN!

Your quoting 2023 not 2022 like I was referring to.

2022 we were just physically cooked. We had a short pre season coming off a flag. We started like a house on fire winning the first 10, only to head into finals with Trac carrying a broken leg amongst other injuries.
There is a reason why back to back is so impossibly difficult to win.

Tracc’s injury was bad luck.  But the rest wasn’t. And Geelong had just as much misfortune with Hawkins carrying a foot injury, Cameron doing a hamstring on the eve of the finals etc.  Our 2022 issues were all self inflicted.

I thought we were unlucky last year but after his season I have come to accept we were simply not good enough and failed to address our issues in the offseason via recruiting and free agency. The loss of Petracca mid season should not have created as many holes that have since appeared.

Agree, this thread is bollocks, Goodwin has screwed this club, Billings and Petty, to name just 2, continue to get games when they don’t deserve it, he continues to play same players who fail every week, I really wish they’d get rid of him and get someone like Buckley who knows how to coach, sick of Goodwin and sick of some supporters for accepting mediocrity!

Here Here!

1 Does anyone, including the players know what game style we are playing, seems to be so many variations that players themselves seem to have no idea

2 Never a plan B Much less plan C

3 Continues to try to make a natural Defender Petty into a forward! Sorry Simon but 6 goals in 19 games is a MASSIVE Fail

4 Forward line has been on the nose for all but 21 When BBB, Fritta, T Mac and Jackson fired, since then nothing has been done re leading patterns and horrible Goal kicking. Stafford needs to go as well!

5 Continues to play guys based on misguided loyalty that they can never will be dropped. Chandler, Fritta, Petty,Melksham,Lever, hell even Clarry!

6 Casey guys must wonder how to get a game re above.

7 Midfield is a Haemoraging wound and Mc Qualter from where I sit has done little to fix it.This grappling style is so antiquated it is sheer luck when and if it comes of.

8 Recruiting is and has been a shambles, Yeah I know Billings played quite well last night, but he is soft, Shache is finished, as is Hunter, Mc Adams is a bust, Why did we recruit Fullarton??and Tomlinson is NQR, so all things considered recruiting has been very ordinary!

9 We never hear from Kate Roffey, why not?

10 We gave Grundy away for a penny pinching Mc Donalds Meal, what a MASSIVE BLUNDER! Could yet play in a swans PREMIERSHIP team.

So my vote is in we need a new coach that has new game style policy, better flair and a bit of ruthlessness!

Anyone who DOESN'T think Petty is a forward didn't watch the game last night

Newsflash - a forward is expected to actually kick a goal or 2.

A bit like being a great defender but always getting goals kicked on you.

6 goals for the year from a guy who is absolutely a forward according to your sharp eye, so then, what does that say about the game plan and therefore the coach being the man?

This thread is almost as comical as the Dees fans who think we could attract a big name forward to fix our scoring problems. Why on earth other than A LOT more money than other teams are offering would any decent forward want to come here? Its career suicide.

Mate he's kicked 6 goals in 17 games this year. It's been plain obvious for months that he's far better suited to moving back into defence.

It's pointless to assume that people don't watch games because they don't share your views.

Some people are happy with Petty contesting marks in the midfield.

Not enough for a KPF. Curnow or McKay can contest marks to help the team win but add to that 3 or 4 goals.

I agree, think hes an excellent defender, what I will say about him as a forward is its so hard to judge if he could be decent forward with how we play, I think prime Carey would look ordinary in this system.

Cant help but feel we are wasting JVR's breakout years (might end up wasting his career).

The use of Fritsch is mind boggling, having him as a stationary contested mark target to slow ball movement and bombs down the wing outside 50 is the last thing you should be doing with him and exactly what the opposition would want.

Kozzy should be an all Australian by now and have opposing defenders [censored] themselves every week 1 on 1 inside 50 with some space on the back of quicker ball movement.

We rely far too heavily on scrapping goals from pressure as has been proven all year (14th in the league for scoring) . Nothing ever comes easy for our forwards, our F50 is constantly flooded, they get no quick ball movement, not enough space to lead, rare one on ones, horrible delivery from the midfield for the most part. People can say the players love Goody all they like but eventually this boring game plan will drive some of the forward talent we do have on our list away.

My point was this: he showed once again that he is a great contested mark; he is moving much more freely after the year that experience tells us is necessary to recover from his foot injury (as was the case with eg TMac and Jack), and anyone with an eye for potential can see that he is growing into the forward role and will be a great KPF.

Good grief this is an awful take.

Let's take a look at players who have kicked more then Harrison Petty this year.

Ben Brown - 7 goals

Max Gawn - 11 goals

Jack Viney - 8 goals

Christian Petracca - 14 goals

Alex Neale Bullen - 8 goals

Ed Langdon -  7 goals

Kade Chandler - 17 goals

Caleb Windsor - 8 goals.

Daniel Turner - 12 goals

He's played 18 games pretty much as a full time forward for a total return of 6 goals. Poor Benny Brown has only played the 6 games and he's still kicked more then Petty. I didn't add Pickett, Fritta and JVR because they've done what they're main objective is as a forward and that's to kick goals amongst other things.

Then you have both our wingman and a back man who came to the year only having played 3 games that have already surpassed him this year with their goals tally.

I understand that he contests well and will take the odd good strong mark, but your main role in all that is to kick goals and he simple doesn't do it.

He's a defender first and foremost and a good one too. He's simply not a forward and it's been a waste of an opportunity with him down there.

We have nothing for life after May unless Goody pulls the pin on this whole forward experiment thing which has been nothing short of a failure.

Well said Dazzle.  Nibbler should be kicking more goals too.  All our forwards and midfields should in reality be scoring more goals.  But unfortunately that simple premise of football had never really been the highest priority from the coaching staff.  Instead we're obsessed with keeping other teams to the minimum and grinding out games.

I know people say we don't have a lot of choice, but what forward would enjoy playing our painful BRAND that burns the eyes and sears the skin?  It's not attractive to watch and it would be horrible to play. No good forward would want to sign up for it.

We never really played the ball into BBB properly.  We bombed it in high and long on top of three forwards leaping into each other and every tall defender in a pack.  Or else we play it safe and long out wide and lock it there amidst congestion, contest and repeat stoppages.

I'm being facetious, but in a perverse way maybe Goody likes having no option but to shove natural defenders up forward so we can be even more defensive.  Except for Fritsch.  That's why we get players with strict roles that prioritise chasing like Spargo and Chandler and Nibbler.

Defence is fine and it wins flags and it's good to contest and to keep other teams to really low scores.

As long as we always score at least one more point than the other team.

Or six more

Best comment I have read all year re Kozzy. He should be leaving Bobby Hill in his wake. So much more skillful and yet we don’t utilise his strengths sufficiently

Welp, unsurprisingly this thread’s been invaded and is now unreadable. It’s not enough for some that there are so many other threads in which to pot the coach. There’s even a dedicated thread. But no, they have to poison every square inch of the entire site. There’s simply no avoiding them.

Thank you for creating this thread, M. You had good intentions 🫶🏼
