It is often said for a team to click (gain cohesion) they need to play together, play together, play together. The fwd 7 players are a revolving door! How can that possibly help executing The New Plan.

The forwards haven't been performing. The last few weeks people have been calling him out for keeping the same players, even though they weren't performing. Now he drops them and people are complaining. Everyone in the team has been training this new plan. Not rewarding forwards who have been performing at Casey wasn't working. At least he's trying something new. He's keeping defence and midfield largely the same for some consistency.

Everyone moans about Goody's stubbornness, but when he finally makes a dramatic change everyone complains. He can't win!

If we do get a new coach, expect very dramatic changes every week.

They're learning a different method of playing football not doing an engineering degree.

I get that fwds haven't been performing but each week we've had at least 2 fwd changes sometimes to players who appear to be in form.

It was a bad look last week when only one tall fwd was selected and he was also to ruck then at half time Goodwin said Petty was moving fwd as we needed the aerial presence, something that was obvious at selection. So coaches need to share the responsibility for our fwd line not performing.

My main point was the 'revolving door' of fwds isn't helping The New Plan.

I'd prefer we select a fwd 7 and stick to them (except for injuries) and persevere until it clicks. It couldn't have been any worse.

I agree with what you are saying @Lucifers Hero , but I don’t know why the revolving door. Maybe Goody is looking for combinations of forwards that will follow his game plan. Or maybe he is “punishing” our 2 best forwards for not following his plan. Both may be back next week or the week after - and there is Jeffo to also get a look in. Which makes your point even more valid. I have NFI.

Yeah I don't buy the 'change is hard' thing at all. Plenty of teams change the way they play over a single off-season.

It wouldn't be helping and selection has been poor, but the guys that need to get used to the new plan for it to click are our mids, and they've had relative continuity.

12 out of 102 voted yes and 4 of those voters were registered Melbourne supporters.

This is a group of supporters that haven’t seen a flag in 27 years that have hypothetically been offered a premiership coach next year, and the consensus is hard pass.

If anyone thinks we are even a remote chance of winning tomorrow or turning it around and winning more than a handful of games for the year, please turn on the football and check out how bad North can actually be. This team beat us by 10 goals and probably should have won by 100.

So, Simon Goodwin reckons he's the best option to turn things around at Melbourne. Well, I beg to differ and just to put a little perspective on just how badly the Demons are performing at present, consider North Melbourne in comparison.

The Kangaroos have only won one game (no prizes for guessing who that was against). They were beaten by the Dogs (by 16 points), beaten by Adelaide (by 36 points), walloped by Sydney (by 65 points) and then beaten by the Suns (by 52 points). At the time of writing their game against Carlton is not going well (they are behind by 27 points midway through Q2).

So how is it that the largely beatable North Melbourne manages to horse whip Melbourne to the tune of 59 points?

I think we’ll get beat by 65 points and I feel that’s being kind.

The loss to North, who have since regressed to their usual 20 loss a year standards, should really count against Goodwin. And I’m sure it will if decisions need to be made.

Some of our other losses have been understandable and a semblance of respectability (GWS and Geelong) but we have absolutely no business losing a game by 59 points to North Melbourne. Let’s get serious for a second.

Will really find out over the next few weeks if the Demons players actually "love" Simon Goodwin.

If we cannot win a game over the next month or so then Simon Goodwin will be sacked.

Every Melbourne supporter I have spoken to is very angry about our current predicament. It is totally unacceptable!

Not helped by injuries and setbacks to at least some of those who would have helped drive it, and a whole slew of consequences that flowed on from that (e.g., Rivers back to the backline).

Yes, all teams have injuries, yadda yadda, but in terms of getting a new, faster ball movement approach off and running we desperately needed the 4 amigos (Linsday, Windsor, Langford, Tholstrup) playing every match. It may not have made much of a difference in the short term, but would have put us further along the path.

It's not all that revolving. Jefferson was injured, Johnson got himself suspended, and when he came back didn't show much/enough. Turner's the only one who's been in/out, though he's a bit of an enigma in that he clearly can deliver but then doesn't - not on a consistent basis.

The coaches have backed Fritsch and JVR to find form, but this week's axing is just an acknowledgment that there's a limit to that kind of patience.

It doesn't matter whether you buy it not, it's a fact.

Go back and watch the Simpson interview, where he went through trying to change the way WCE players - and admitted that it failed. And it failed because he didn't have the players who could play the way they were trying.
