@KozzyCan

I noticed that you continually slag off at any number of players on OTHER threads but not on this thread

Why is that? Don't want to spoil your own blinkered narrative

As for the insults... you started that stuff

Still arguing with yourself in the shower?

Incredibly, this thread is about the coach.

Clearly I've touched a nerve.

Who instructed him to be on the bench? Seriously, who actually told the senior coach to get our of the box? Surely you have a source for this? Happy to wait.

If you're not talking about this year than what relevance does it even have to our current issues?

Go back a page and you'll see the relevance

A conversation I had with @Lucifers Hero about what powers Goodwin has within the FD

He's probably a dead man walking, but are we comfortable that we're in a position to make the correct decision around a new head coach?

CEO hasn't started.

New President.

Richardson gone at the end of the season.

Wouldn't be shocked if he's still coaching next year.

As mentioned a page or two back, I think the best scenario we could hope for is that Goody announces he'll finish at seasons end tonight.

That would be the best outcome and get us focussed on finding a new young coach asap before the other clubs get rolling.

We have to make changes now.

Not in 6 weeks.

You can dish it out but can't cop it back

Let's be realistic. Are you planning to move on Petracca, Oliver, Salem, etc in one off season? Is that even feasible?

I believe two will go

I'm not the one calling people imbeciles and bogans mate. Have a great day.

I tend to agree but wasn't he relegated to the bench after the FD review in 2020?

Oddly enough, we won the flag the next year? Go figure

But I said it a few months ago on this very thread ... the players rule the roost and we gave them even more leeway in the off-season

Bad move as you can't have the cart before the horse

Results aside, Goodwin is doing his best

Are the players giving their all? Or kicking back waiting for someone else to do the hard yards

The danger is that our young players are getting caught up in it all. Watching the senior players not give a yelp

How about we thank certain players for the flag and then send them on their way?

I won’t defend any of our senior players

Gawn gives his all but he is not a driver of standards

Viney tries hard but stitched the club when negotiating his last contract. Tim Lamb stuff up that one

Trac is no leader. Threw a massive tanty last year about standards. he's all bout himself. He's not invested

The Clarry we know and love is a distant memory. The current version is miles off it

I think both Trac and clarry should be moved on

Keep viney to lead the young lads.

Gawn is a legend but I’m not sure captain should be his go anymore (no idea who takes over. Lever preferably but he is too injury prone now)

And Goody might be trying his best but I’m afraid its no where near good enough. No instruction from the sidelines yesterday as the game turned against us. Kossie and Melks on the bench. His coaching was putrid.

He’s been there 9 years. A strong coach does not allow player power to take hold. that's on him as much as anyone

A big broom required and clear the lot of them out

Ah yes, but you did start with insults

Live by the sword

And anyone who lays all the blame at Goodwins feet is clueless

And it was imbecilic obsession ... get it right

Good points BDA

And well balanced. Refreshing

Goodwin’s biggest failing IMO is not putting the fab

Think this might be it. Dennis Pagan claims he was pushed out by North in 2002.

Denis Pagan reveals he was forced out of the club he coac...

Kangas forced me out: Pagan

I believe there was a big stink before he left that the club was not happy that Pagan was showing favouritism and playing his spud son who was nowhere near AFL level.

The players lost the game yesterday

Not the coach

But how many players would be moved on under a Goodwin lead team...
I dont think many.

This is a worry of mine, that Goodwin will make decisions to try and fix up the team for next year to save his job, rather than making bold decisions that will see results over a longer time period.

Patience has basically run out, so if a coach is in that position, rationally it would make sense for his next decisions to be based on short term success rather than more long term overhauls.

1 hour ago, Macca said:

Maybe but overhauling the list would involve the FD, not just Goodwin

Do you believe that the players have checked out? At least a number of players?

I do to a degree. But is that cos of the losses? is it because of the message/gameplan?
I played for a coach for multiple years and you could nearly get up and give the same speech you knew he was about to in certain situations.

One is never mutual from the other, but I honestly believe the game plan for the lat few years like in 2019/20 just isnt good enough.

Will the Board blame Goody for Tracc and Clarry issues?

They may not get back to their best until 2026?

Who is to blame for the Brayshaw early retirement? Gun half back and mid.

Will the Board blame Goody for the loss of Luke Jackson? He is that big ruck forward we need.

If Goodwin was honest with himself he would admit he isn’t able to get the best out of this group and step aside. Maybe it’s harsh but I feel like he has underachieved relative to where we would expect to be in every season but 2018 and 2021. That doesn’t mean we need to contend every year but it doesn’t excuse these sorts of years either

I think it was both, What changes did Goodwin do in the last?

Fritsch to the back line to be the spare instead of Petty. Set the mids up at a bounce to ensure the ball never moved out fast? Did he make sure Kozzie could get on the field, for the critical last 10 mins instead of allowing the change.

But the players also missed shots and reverted back to the old game plan which we got away from in the first 3/4.

I am guessing Goody will be presenting some of this year's learnings to the Board tonight...

I'm thinking some snazzy Powerpoint animations could help

The FD and executive understand that Gawn is not the captain we are looking for in terms of where we are looking to take the young players and for ruthlessness of standards required to achieve that but if he were removed, it would be the third such captain removed from his role in Goodwins reign.

I can’t remember another coach who has had to move on three captains in 8 years and it’s not via natural attrition.

He was told to be on the bench after the 2020 season. And certain responsibilities were given to Yze as a consequence

You might want to keep up with things

And lose your imbecilic obsession with Goodwin

Where was he told this?

Unless you can provide quotes, Goodwin has been on record to say that it was his personal choice to be on the bench as he gets to engage with the players and provide direct feedback and instruction on the spot.

Fair enough

I'm way more with the lack effort and putrid performances of our experienced players

Play well regardless of the coaches message

It’s clear that Goodwin is the motivator and that Yze was the strategist.

Agree. But after Yze, hes still on the bench..

Talk about deflection from the FD.

Of all of our problems, AA Captain Gawn is the least of them. Between him and Viney, they drive standards at training and on/off the field.

The coaches and FD need to be held accountable

They didn’t really replace Yze did they and gee, it shows.

It was bad enough that the Melbourne Football Club created yet another humiliating scenario inside its wretched season at Marvel Stadium last Sunday, but the final insult is that it has been commanded to return to the scene of the crime to inflict further punishment on its fans this week. Incidentally, if this match preview, of a game that promises to be one of the most unattractive fixtures in the history of the game, happens to cut out of your computer screen three quarters of the way through, it’s no coincidence. I’ll be mirroring the Demons’ lacklustre effort against St Kilda from last Sunday when they conceded the largest last quarter turnaround for victory in the history of the game.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.
