Me too, pointed it out a couple of time to my son to try and teach him what not to do in that situation. Not sure he was listening, was too upset with what was going on on the ground.

On a serious note I feel for you and any other parent having taken kids to the footy. We as adults can at least ( in the main ) temper our frustration knowing in the end it's just a game. Kids don't see it quite so simply and their vested passion can be sorely tested.

Both mine stopped following Melbourne years ago. One has no interest in footy these days... the other ironically barracks for...... StKilda

Following the Dees is hard work. Kudos for being there.

Its not that we are just blaming Goodwin, but he is the boss, its his team, his gameplan, his decisions. Yes the assistants assist and throw up ideas, but it is for him to take it all and make the right choices.

And it's not like this is the first "hiccup". Blame for multiple years of failure lie at the feet of the head coach, just like years of success sit on the head coaches shoulders.

It was clear that Goodwin had run his course before he was reappointed.

Part of the solution is to run an alternative ticket for the next board elections and really connect with the membership using the dissonance of this year as the momentum builder. We know there is massive dissonance because the membership numbers have fallen significantly and that fact can be expressed in significant dollars.

We also have to stop the board approving dysfunctional ‘boys’ club’ contracts. For example, why was JV extended so long when it is clear he has limited capacity as the game evolves?

Having said that I still favour asking the senior coach to leave (a few months ago :-)). Having him scamming us again with his weekly nonsensical commentary on our team’s failure in 2026 is going to be a step too far for even long-standing and loyal members such as myself.

Yes it is, and so it should be.

Goodwin has been ‘in charge’ for 9 years. He is at the very top of the blame list, for good reason.

Add to that list many of the senior players together with coaching assistants and some personnel in List Management and Fitness.

My hope is that we part ways with him, bring in someone like Buckley with some strong line coaches. It's the only way I see our current core having a spike.

You don't have quarters like yesterday with a club that isn't fractured. We are fractured, regardless of what the blindly positive posters think.

The club is going to lose SIGNIFICANT amounts of members.

Their best monetary decision is to get rid of Goodwin, attempt to keep the members because they’ll lose way more with members dropping off, then Goodwin.

It’s probably their only shot to get something out of the team, clearly they aren’t clicking with Goodwin anymore and have no faith.

All under the watch of Goodwin it must be said, but we have got a real issue with many on the list

I think a few people get lost in “not all the blame is on Goodwin”. Of course it’s not solely on him, it involves the players and everyone else at the club. But he’s the head of the table. He’s been here 9 years as out Senior Coach + anther 2-3 as Roosy’s assistant. Things get stale. It’s the right time. The club and players need a new voice and direction.

There is no better time to do it with a new incoming President and CEO. A new head of footy should be high on the agenda also as Richo and Goodwin are hand in hand.

Just rip the bandaid. The slowly painful death is tiresome and we all know it’s just delaying the inevitable.

Walking back to the station he said "I'm going for Geelong now" (his mum's team) but we both know it's an empty threat. He's saddled with this curse now just like I was. He's at the age where he loves his footy, watches any game, watches YouTube vids on all the different clubs etc, starting to love the history of the game. Some weeks he's more interested in attending a neutral game instead of watching Melbourne play.

It sucks because it impacts their enjoyment of the sport as a whole, I told him we'll use our AFL memberships to go watch the finals in Vic this year and either barrack for GC/GWS or against the Pies (depending on who is playing).

You could dissect the entire last quarter let alone that final 30-60 seconds. But just look at that, if Viney actually goes and stands next to Caminiti he would've easily covered the space Nas worked into. Then you have our mids standing around the circle instead of at the back of the square. Its mindblowing how inept that play was.
