As for the coaching today, I'm more inclined to give credit to the players today for adhering to the new game plan (about time)

They did what we've all been expecting them to do ... if that plan was to share the ball at speed and play as a team and look for teammates as a default mode. And minimum long bombs

I know Viney was holding off Serong most of the game but I noticed quite a few times our mids keeping their opponent locked a bit longer then usual after the tap to allow Koz to really hunt the footy.

I think Goody will persist with more Kozzy midfield time as he alluded to in his presser. He's starting to really learn the craft, timing and positioning to have a big impact there. Almost untaggable and if he was to be this would open up opportunity for Clarry and Trac to take over more.

I think moving Kozzy into the midfield has been a terrific move by Goodwin. Gotta give him his flowers there.

I was at the game watching them from the members with bino's. I'd say 3/4 of the team looked impassive or stoic after the siren and understandably so. It made sense to me and was my kind of feeling as well. I'm sure they were all feeling a bit of 'why has it taken until round 6' like we all of felt. Also looked more like relief or a bit of weight off in the change rooms.

Just on the off chance you're words are somehow prophetic, can you put in a good word about Trac showing better composure kicking in to the forward 50. He kicks the ball as if he's lost a few yards and is about to be run down in a split second!

The same period included wins over the Dogs, Brisbane (semi finalist) and Port Adelaide away (preliminary finalist).

We were the best side through all of 2021. It was a dominant season.

There's also an insane amount of "it wasn't Goodwin, it was the assistants/Burgess". Just like our current predicament, 2021 was the result of everyone being at the top of their game. That doesn't mean Goodwin didn't do an excellent job, nor does it mean he doesn't deserve credit for coaching us to the flag. He does.

Cutting down his achievements in 2021 is unnecessary to also be correct in saying that we are putrid in 2025 and that Goodwin's coaching has not been good this year, or last, or even the year before.

I said it was a very good season, it wasn't Essendon 2000, Cats 2008 or Hawks 88 levels of dominance though.

I wasn't trying to cut down his achievements more to put them in context. And I agree with what you're saying and that was my point - our 2021 season wasn't solely down to Goodwin being a master coach, there were others at the top of their game all contributing. You're actually agreeing with me there 😈

1st half was fantastic.
Faded abit in the 3rd.
4th was no good apart from Langford kicking the sealer and Gawn marking everything that come near him.

Don't know what to do with Trac.
His set shot and field kicking is just atrocious.
He's 29 now, and feel he's been to arrogant to work on it.
His around the corner set shot today from 40m showed me his confidence is just completely shot with the big sticks in front of him.
Also felt when the whips were cracking and we needed his leadership the most today he was missing.
I always remember Russell Robertson struggling for accuracy early in his career but it was obviously something he worked on cause later on he become abit of a dead eye.
I also see Dangerfield prolonging his career now playing much more forward.
But his accuracy is far superior to Tracs and his marking stronger.

Presumably this thread will quieten down for a few days at least

So Goodwin didn't suddenly learn how to coach again overnight, same as he didn't learn how to not coach previously

What happened is that the message finally got through and the players finally listened

So the players got the same message, not a different message

They listened and then adhered to the new game plan and hey presto, we play well and win

But if you want to flip/flop on a week to week basis, go right ahead. Do that, and you'll just come across as a reactionary fool

He had many stints in midfield last year with some success. It isn’t rocket science. There’s been calls to change the dynamic of the midfield.

He missed the first few games through suspension and since back has been in the midfield.

Well after Clark saying the payout is until 2026, this is the west coast mirror. Goodwin is safer until next year, so buckle up, we ain’t changing, new ceo or not.

Yesterday’s game was a blast to watch, they played with dare and were exciting to watch, hopefully this is the way we move forward.

The message that they heard was the outside noise which was deafening. Alarm bells were ringing, the coach under the blowtorch, and they finally figured - “hey, we better pull our collective fingers out, and go!”

The coaches also heard and read the noise and realized their jobs were on the line, and coached 24/7 during the week to give the season a pulse.

You give the coach and players, way too much credit.

I’d like to give all the supporters and media credit for applying the blowtorch and putting everyone on notice.

Note: * Let’s see how they back up, with the spotlight off them after a win.

Yes, there was an element of that but the win yesterday wasn't based on motivation alone

I'd rather look at it from a technical point of view

We played the game yesterday adhering to the new game plan. Many were questioning where the new game plan was and they saw it yesterday (we also trained at that new game plan all Summer)

We looked a different team in the way we played ... vastly different

Suddenly we played as a team with a fast offense, sharing the ball and looking for teammates. Long bombs at a minimum

When was the last time we played like that? (remembering that our M.O was to bomb it long to the pockets for at least the last 5 years)

But if you and others want to believe we just played well because we were embarrassed, that's fine

The sport has moved on from that way of thinking. It's very technical and a solid game plan is required these days

And all the players need to be on board

Teamwork has obviously always been a factor in footy but the sharing of the ball these days is a real step up from the past

A lot to like about yesterday’s game.

1/ Less uncontested possession for our opposition. You can’t score if you don’t have the ball and we have been far too easy to score against for too long. Really pleased that this was addressed.

2/ Forward half pressure. Tackles up giving our opponents no time on the ball forcing the turnovers down our end.

3/ Great use of role players. Viney outstanding on Serong but also hurt them going the other way. Our good ball users worked hard to get the ball and we looked to them to get the ball in their hands. Bowey masterclass. More of this please . We have drafted hard to get some better ball Users in the team. We need to use them to hit that last kick into the forward line.

4/ Speed of ball movement going forward and lowering of the eyes. Smart ball use going forward to our advantage unsurprisingly allowed us to score freely.

5/ Played with a real attacking mindset, Kozzie given a licence to play with flair. Was great to watch and you could see that the players enjoyed themselves out there. It was infectious and everyone fed off that, the team and the crowd. The result took care of itself.

A great collective effort so well done to all, match committee, coaching staff, players and the crowd yesterday. We need to enjoy it but switch on quickly and go again and again.

The answer might be never

It must be remembered that for the last 5 years at least, we've often played the boundary with long bombs to the pockets

Trying to gain territory and then lock it in

What we saw yesterday was a revelation and there's no reason why we can't continue playing in the same way

Nearly all the other teams have a similar game plan to what we saw from us yesterday ... fast paced offense with the use of the corridor whilst sharing the ball always looking for teammate

On a side not it was pleasing to see Oliver's ratio of kicks & handballs (5/20) ... more of that please as Oliver is not a great kick to position player

But his handpassing is top notch
