Genuinely think that Andrew Dillon and Laura Kane wake up every Monday and have a meeting discussing how they can annoy as many people as possible.

But this is what you get for having a lawyer and a failed North Melbourne football manager running the game.

At least Gillon had a personality and Demetriou understood how football works.

Nah, it's merely about creating discussion points in a public forum. All versions of exposure and content.

Nope, its about bringing as many dollars through the door by playing unnecessary additional rounds and an extra finals weekend.

Season is 30 weeks, its too bloody long and its costing a fortune now. Reckon my family has spent 15k on them this year.

Yes, I was inferring it is all about the $ - that’s their business. It’s a great junket. And is now at saturation point and I don’t see the younger generations having the same interest or attention span that maybe some of us on here do. 😀

Let’s just make the season 12 months long. We need games daily, we need more special rounds, I want a clown round where everyone has to play in clown shoes.
What could go wrong? It’s not like we have the highest number of injuries on record or anything… 🙄

Collingwood and Essendon likely finishing 9th & 10th this year was the sealer on the deal.

As I said before, AFL House might as well annoinnt the teams they want playing finals every year.... Better not give them ideas.

Wow it just gets worse and worse. So you finish 7th and don’t even get a home Wildcard weekend game? Is there any way the AFL could make the fixture any more convoluted?

Worst part is that Americans favour the show more than the actual sport. Money grabbing machines they are.

And not only the Americans, but the great American imitators aka AFL

Unlikely as Carlton will have already won the Fair Play finals spot for the team with the least amount of player suspensions over the home and away season.

Where's the consultation with the fans, AFL?

How about the players or the clubs?

How about fix the glaring issues such as rules, umpiring interpretation, injury prevention, and MRO instead of finding ways to gorge yourselves in money troughs.

called it

On 06/08/2024 at 14:29, whatwhat say what said:

once tasmania and then the 20th team comes in the finals effectively being the top 10 the idea of a wildcard weekend will be deemed a lot more 'acceptable'

it won't be called that tho, cos the afl will want something to trademark and license

it gives the afl a new revenue stream opportunity - it's not part of the existing broadcast rights agreements, so perfect thing to pair with a streamer for two games one weekend

afl can ultimately 'sell' it a la gil's round in adelaide, and make it standalone friday nite and  saturday twilight / night in a sold location to the highest bidder

it would actually be perfect for tasmania as there's that white elephant of a roofed stadium to utilise once the thing is built

just add it to the bill as another thing for the tasmanian taxpayers to pay for as part of their initial afl set-up in the first few years

i like that it gives a benefit to finishing top 6 as they get a week off while the others play off in an elimination contest

presumably 7 vs 10 and 8 vs 9?

It’s totally screwing 7 and 8 who had a nearly impossible task to begin with just become twice as hard.

It’s rewarding bad teams that don’t deserve it at 9 and 10.

And now the worst possible thing they’ll considering screwing the fans by playing them at neutral venues. That’s horrendous. (I don’t think it’s actually going to happen but they’ll float neutral venues to ram through the rest)

if there's a buck in it, 100% they will do it

There's already a buck in letting 9th and 10th play 2 extra finals games. The logistics of selling off a final when you don't know who's playing seems way too impractical, so much so that it would be hard to get a great price anyway.

Imagine if it was Collingwood - Essendon and you're giving up 100k at the G to have 50k scramble to Adelaide, many of whom would just drive given it's last minute.

And what if the other game was GWS - Gold Coast in Perth and you'd have a grand total of 3 men and a dog travelling over for it.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
