You heard it here first.  "Prominent" AFL journalist "kills and eats extra-terrestial lover".  Love those quotation marks.  It's not who we are all thinking of.

Can someone bring me up to speed, please?

Has it been confirmed that Clayton or agent met with Geelong?

Has it been confirmed that he told MFC that he wants to leave?

maybe, that's a difficult one to read from where we sit

it does seem though that an awful lot of club resources were expended on clarry. if he wasn't such a star player he probably would have been jettisoned long ago. remember all that stuff we can't talk about before roffy. it seems to stretch back a long way and it seems many in the media knew a lot they can't talk about except in vague ways about culture etc

And who is responsible for creating that culture/environment? He's not going to be out of the league, if he is still good enough to play senior footy then the club owes it to itself and the members/supporters to sort it out.

Even if the club did think it best to part ways, the manner in which this is playing out is shambolic. A good club would have that discussion with the player and his manager and try and work on a solution, not go behind the players back fishing with other clubs only to have it leaked in the media and the player lose his trust in the club. The MFC is amateur hour at the moment, it reminds me of the bad old days under Schwab, Pert has to go he was a big part of the problems at Collingwood and he's brought those issues with him to Melbourne. Seems the only thing he's learnt is how to avoid being the subject of any reviews so this time he's made sure he's heading those reviews so he can't get the [censored].

Yes I believe it's what the supporters are experiencing with the club right now.

look, we could chat away for ever about who could've, who didn't, who should've but no bad clarry no problem

we are all p155ed about this. clarry was a one in a generation player and it is sad, but lets not line up all those who at least tried to help up against the wall and shoot them ... we weren't there and don't know a fraction of the details (and probably never will)

It is the way it is being handled/played out that is the biggest issue. The people running the club are incompetent buffoons headed by the CEO Gary Pert. He has to go, what does he actually bring to the table?? All we get is dirty laundry aired in the media and motherhood statements when supporters/journos ask legitimate questions.

The club is a s*** show right now. Regardless of what you think.

and by manage do you mean cover things up and pretend that they aren't happening?

A bit like Geelong with their forward pocket carried out of a venue unconscious?

Clayton is a product of his environment. Viney, Lever and McDonald aside, our senior players were all scallywags as younger men. Clayton learnt how to adult in that setting.

No doubt he's taken things to another level, but don't kid yourself we have/had a list of Trent Cotchin's and Sam Mitchell's

Yeah, but then they want to bring in Bartel for his “Leadership”!

Where is your evidence that the footy department was ‘blindsided’…? stop believing media BS

I love how people on this site demand evidence right before preemptively dismissing the available evidence.

If Clazz gets traded we will shortly after get a ton of leaks of his true off field behaviour over the past couple years

I am gutted. I am over 50 and he is the best player I have seen including Robbie. FFS surely we can sort this out. I wonder if this is part of the keeping Trac on board negotiations? This is sad.

Yes sad. But it seems the club from top to bottom has been “sorting this out” for 18 months or so (that we know of …) and for whatever reason we’ve reached the end of the road. The internal review may have played a part in bringing issues to a head, or in unearthing problems that we’d thought were behind us, but whatever. Here we are.

Time to move on, thankful that we got the best years of Clayton’s career.

It better not be, because with the turmoil we're going through and the bottom-4 trajectory we're on, it's inconceivable that Trac doesn't seek a trade next year. His preferred suitors have ample time to make list and cap arrangements in the meantime.

Yes and incoming, it’s up-to dees if we want to trade, realistically it’s a salary dumb if we do. Personally unless he’s fallen off the wagon again I’d be waiting 12 months as if he can get his form back at a minimum it would increase our bargaining position at worst we get the same deal, I can’t see his stock falling any further.

If we are bottom 4 next year it probably is better to trade him if he truely wanted out, he would still have massive value and lets us fast track a rebuild before Tasmania comes in

Hope everyone is okay!

If Carrie is traded fro less than 2 top 10 picks we are being screwed over.

If we pay any of his wage then all the turnips who sign off on it should be removed instantly from the club.

God I hate this [censored] club at times. Only we can right royally make a mess off a competition best midfield.

I never mentioned anything about a 2 club transaction. But if you look at what they’ve committed to with Smith, and the picks they have, they’d have to give up something genuinely valuable to anyone to get enough capital to bring in Smith and Oliver.

Also, I’m so over the narrative that other clubs are so wonderfully run. I know stories about Geelong, and its culture, that would make people’s toes curl. They benefit massively from the fact that no journo in Melbourne can be bothered to drive down there to dig dirt on such a short news cycle. It’s not as perfect as people think.

Do tell!

The club is a basketcase. We had two generational mids that we built a team around and got a flag while still in their mid 20s. Within 3 years we've reverted back to the basketcase we've been for 60 years and both those players (on long term contracts) want out. Heads must roll, the nuffies in charge are going to kill the club.

As iterated Pert, Richardson, Goodwin should all be sacked, Brad Green needs to stand up here!

Not convinced on that… I believe there are skeletons everywhere (that he is aware of) so it is in everyone’s  best interest not to back Clayton into a corner but rather to quietly move on.

… so Brad needs to cut the head off the football department, the coaching staff and the admin (after the head of the board was recently cut off), leaving us with a completely inexperienced president? Righteo.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
