I rate Houston. But I’m a bit relieved we didn’t get Houston.
Adding picks 5 and 9 to our list of young talent should see us seriously competitive for a very long time and should JT nail one or both picks in a super talented draft we could have a superstar.

Can someone explain how they can possibly fit Houston into their salary cap?

Cripps and Weitering are surely on very very good money. McKay, Walsh and Curnow just behind them, I assume. And they went on a multi-year recruitment extravaganza, presumably putting forward tempting financial offers to get Cerra, McGovern, Williams, Hewett and Saad.

I know their depth is highly questionable, but is everyone else on $300,000 a year?

I'd suggest that they will let Kennedy and Owies go. Their combined salary wouldn't be much different to Houston + a late draftee. And Houston isn't leaving Port for more money.

Brian Cook is a very good operator. If anyone can 'restructure' player payments he can.

More money was one of his main reasons for moving. He signed a long term contract for only reasonable money and then went two times AA and his value sky rocketed.

He'd be wanting $800k plus p.a.

I just found out who the President of Carlton is. Say no more.

CEO.
I've no doubt that BC would operate by the letter of the (AFL) law as regards player payments but if there are any loopholes, and I've no doubt there are, he'd find them.
An example would be the prospect of Clarry going to Geelong and taking a pay cut. I mean, really?

How much is a Ford Ranger + farm + free veg.

Looks like Houston is heading to the Pies with GC providing some charity. How GC is allowed to function as a football team is mind blowing.

That’s a heist from Collingwood. The suns are something else

wtf. Suns are crazy at trading. Why do the Pies get Houston for a future 1st and Noble.  That’s it??? Wow.

Plus Joe Richards and maybe other pick swaps.

Richards is steak knives, certainly not the 2xfirsts Port were asking. I think GC are salary dumping Atkins as well. Either way GC and Port with egg on their face, Pies laughing.

Pretty sure they left out the 2nd most important piece in Lukosius going to Port. Atkins is a salary dump. Richards is more than steak knives, and offers Port midfield depth. I think Port have done well.

But surely some later picks must be going to the Suns so they get points for Lombard.

Edit: Tom Morris was way off the mark. The Suns get 2 future 1st as part of the deal. Makes more sense now.

But Port paid a F1 for Luko which is pretty expensive for my tastes.

Maybe they get cap relief. But they’re taking on Ratkins so that counters that?

Yeah I just saw the deal in totality. GC haven't done too bad. Getting rid of Ratkins is a win. Lukosius could be another Jack Watts for Port, or he could fulfill his talent.

They chose a Collingwood first over North. That’s a stinker.

Port’s deal a bit of a shocker.

Collingwood massive losers in that. Sure it gets them one step closer next year but they're really giving up depth and the future.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
