JT still a very good recruiter but the trade up, trade up, trade up some more plan has more than run its course and will kill us this year handing Essendon a quality pick. As well as crazily trading away so many useful later picks in a deep draft last year.

Our depth is terrible and unlikely to get better any time soon. Have to take our medicine with some bigger draft crops and then turn the list over

I’m also happy with Lindsay but I’m hoping we give up on the Trade up at almost any cost policy. JT has picked a lot of quality players in the 2nd round of the draft over the years but we haven’t given him many picks in that range over the past few years which has contributed to our lack of depth.

I’m a big JT fan and I think our policy over the next couple of year should be the go to the draft with what will surely be very good picks.

You are aware we have no 1st rounder this year? What might have been pick 5 is now Essendon's to use.

If, if we get Kalani White and Toby Sinnema this year without a 1st rounder, is that enough?

Yes I’m aware.

I’m worried that we might trade out 26&27 as they will likely be top 5 picks in good drafts. Even if Tassie comes has a lot of picks in 27 a top 5 pick in a good draft should still get a cracking player.

We were told after the review in the offseason that our list was good enough for finals. Our current ladder position in a year largely unaffected by injury suggests otherwise.

Not sure where to put this, or if it's been posted before, but there's a few to look forward to (until the AFL shafts us again with more targeted rule changes)

Lindsay will be a nice player but if we had our first pick we could tank and get pick 3 this year. Even with academies and a weak top end of the draft that’s likely to be a different grade of player than Lindsay.

That’s before the 2nd rounder and all the other picks we tossed in.

Our trading last four - five years has been the big issue!

the throwing away 2nd rounders seems to have been entirely unnecessary, but i think lindsay is going to be a pearler

i don't disagree that the horse trading of 2nd rounders to move around / up the first round draft board has felt unnecessary, but - other than the pick we gave for mcadam - we gave up little for this clutch of players that you highlighted:

• Hunter - traded for pick 50 (tom anastasopoulos - delisted)

• Dunstan - delisted free agent

• McAdam - traded for pick 31 (james barrat - yet to debut)

• Billings - traded for pick 49 (hugh boxshall - 4 games)

• Harry Sharp and 2025 3rd round (tied to the bears) - traded for 2024 pick 49 (not used) and 2025 3rd round (tied to the peptides)

• Tom Fullarton - traded for pick 47 (not used)

• Tom Campbell - delisted free agent

Any pick Ess gets this year will be the equivalent of mid teens/ early 20's last draft.

It's not worth looking at what other teams did what that pick but rather what Taylor could've done with the pick
Eg - Anastopolous , still avaible was Hugo Garcia, Lawson Humphries, Archie Roberts

However, my point is, Taylor is not the problem. He has hit on over 80% of his picks since coming to the club. Lamb has not built on the premiership and his recruitment since has set us back

All I’ve seen and heard are words so far, a million miles away from being Floweresque as promised.

JT has helped build us the best list many of us have seen in our lifetime, a list that delivered a flag. Tim Lamb too deserves credit

I do believe we get over excited about him though. He has done some great things but he’s not Jesus. Conversely, he’s also not a very naughty boy.

Good recruiters are bloody hard to find, once you have a decent one you don't want to let them go. I don't think JT is the best recruiter in the comp by any means but I'd back him in over the unknown. That being said it wouldn't hurt to support him by investing in more talent scouts.

It’s over rated, just buy the HS or check out the AFL site, they will tell you the player ratings, that pick them selves.

But trades are done basically with coaches’ input, whereas with drafting, the recruiters tell the coaches all about the possible draftees and there can be some coach input.

Tim Lamb doesn’t just go and get someone without the coaches telling him to. It’s on them, not him.

His main role is to manage the list and salary cap and work with the recruiters.

You think the draft is that week? I don’t, there’s always quality right at the top. If we hand them pick 4 or 5 that’s significantly better than pick 7 or 8 that gets blown out by academies.

I also think last years draft had about 20 guys who would go in pick 10-15 in a normal draft of which Lindsay was one. To get 1 of those in Lindsay was nice. But we missed out the chance to get a couple of them by sliding the Lindsay pick back, or sticking with our 2nd rounder and keeping the first this year.
