I think what this shows is how desperate we are for a forward. There is simply  no one else. I ask could he be worse than Petty this year? Hardly!

Personally, I think this is a wonderful decision. Melks should return via the AFL team to help us win. Supporters continue to show they have no clue with their team selection advice.

This has nothing to do with the Melksham selection, but to say supporters have no clue with team selection advice is pretty funny considering some of the team selections this year already from the same coaches have been truly and utterly baffling in itself.

You ask any AFL coach on team selection throughout the year and they'll be the first to admit that there are times where they have gotten selection wrong on a Thursday night. There have certainly been some with the Dees this year.

This is not a good sign for Fullarton.

We had our tallest forward out injured and the FD went instead with a 186cm forward, back after nearly a year out injured, without a Casey game, in preference to Fullarton, who is about 200cms and was traded in as a back up ruck/forward.

Playing Fullarton would have allowed JVR to play solely forward and that would have been helpful to his game imo.

There is no doubt that Melk is a better player than Fullarton, but we obviously didn’t go horses for courses.

I am not arguing about the selection, but rather pointing out that Fullarton will struggle to get a game while Max is playing.

How do you think the pecking order will sit when Schache returns?

He is less chance than Fullarton.

Why on earth did we bring the guy in?

I understand why we brought in a forward/ruckman but perplexed why we didn't go for someone like a Mabior Chol who had actually proven he can play at AFL level.

I never supported the Fullerton recruitment right from the very start, but I thought there were opportunities to bring him into the senior side this year purely for JVR to focus fully on being a key forward and to actually give Max a proper chop out.

The past few weeks Max has looked tired and it's a concern that we are running him onto the ground with minimal support.

Someone’s misplaced their sense of humour - lighten up a bit

There’s nothing wrong with Jaded’s sense of humour, it’s sharp as a tack, and she can be forgiven for taking your post seriously such is the propensity for ridiculousness on here.

You got your little snipe at our forwards in. Be happy with that.

Well I guess the mistake was taking it seriously

Big call bringing him in so soon but  we could certainly use his skills and experience.

Go Jakey.

I'm guessing more than anything but I reckon Melksham is in for his leadership and defensive forward role more than anything else. He was pretty ordinary since 2019 till the end of last year, and I reckon he kept getting games because of his experience and footy smarts. Might also free up Fritsch a bit.

When our forward line is in a shambles it makes sense for him to come in for a bit of direction than a younger player who hasn't played a game with any of them.

Fullerton had a [censored] preseason and only recently looks like he's getting back into at Casey level. Will have to reassess next year.

Melky is waiting for his apology from half the posters in this thread.

Well done, FD and Jake. Melksham not only improved our ball movement, but made McGovern a non entity for much of the match. He also had the equal most marks on the ground (9).

This is why I trust the FD. They get it right more often than not.

i would imagine the $600k a year for the next 3 years was a decision in not pursuing him

Jake Melksham;

No. 1 Ranked for Marks inside 50 per game season 2024.

Equal No. 1 for goal assists.

Equal 13th for goals.

Equal 17th for Score Involvements.

I'm just glad he got through the game when so clearly not ready. Hopefully he'll be better next week.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
