Thanks for all the reports, and I am salivating at the thought of the sausage sizzle.
Regarding Melksham - just speculating that IF he were ready for this weekend ( which he almost certainly isn’t) who would he replace from the current line up? Fritta? Or maybe sub?
Missed the deadline for the podcast questions so I posted this here.

I was very impressed with the calibre of the young men who obliged my grandson’s requests for autographs and photos. Caleb Windsor was absolutely gobsmacked that my grandson had his number on the back of his jumper

i was also impressed with the bbq sausage team. Btw was it WCW who was accepting the payments for the aforementioned delicacies?

Melksham was training unhindered so I’d expect he’d be playing for Casey this weekend.

‘Twas me, Joeboy. I’m not allowed to work on or even near the BBQ. Apparently I’m a danger to myself and others. 🙄

Our young guys are indeed very polite and obliging, each and every one of them.

I hope your grandson enjoyed the day. 🤗

For the record I’m the hungry customer who left the extra change TWICE.

Nice to meet you

Apologies if someone has already mentioned it, but was training at Gosch's Paddock?

Apology accepted.

2,000 is an amazing turn out

Although not a good day to be on BBQ duty!  Woolies run needed!  :-)

How did you know we ran out of snags? We did have to do a Coles run, and then again ran out. We weren’t expecting such an incredible turnout. Heaps of kids were there, which is great.

Oh, that was you! We don’t often get told to keep the change, and never twice from the same person.

My 3-word analysis of Joeboy:

Delightful generous man

I can confirm it is, as I try to work from home with 2 crazies asking me "what are we doing today??"

I'm guess approximately 1000 other people found themselves up against the same predicament and thought 'I'll get WalkingCivilWar to shove food into these faces for a couple of hours of quiet at least."

Lovely to meet you at the snag tent. Snags were delicious 😋

Thank you Flowergirl! You’re the third person (at least) who I served without knowing they were Demonlanders. I’m starting to worry that folks are scared to tell me who they are. I mean, I don’t bite. 😂

Form your observations is Petty any chance of getting up this weekend?

As maligned as he's been this year, he's turned a bit of a corner the last 2 weeks.

It may have been an optical illusion but up close Petty actually looks slim whilst on tv or from the grandstands he looks… overweightish

Don't forget, the camera adds 10 pounds and the afl have like 30 cameras.

It's more about me being shy than you being scary! I'll make sure I say hi next time 😉

Yes, I would agree that there was about 2000 fans. It was great to see on a cold day.

That is amazing given recent losses. I can remember when we used to get 500 and we thought that was good. It bodes well that the kids haven't given up on us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a really great day, just a shame that some parents didn't listen to Robbo's calls for children to remain off the ground. The children storming the players while they were signing and preventing them from getting to those children waiting patiently was pretty poor. Please be respectful of others.

I saw this going on and was disappointed in parents for allowing it to happen. Also, “Security” were close to useless. 🙄 The quiet, patient children missed out, yet again. I also felt for the players, some of the young boys looked overwhelmed.

I see the players leave training after regular sessions at Gosch’s, and watching them leave yesterday’s session was weird. I’ve never seen a group of young men so keen to escape. 😂

Yesterday a man came to our tent, snatched a sausage in bread and ran off without paying. No biggie, but if that person happens to be someone on here, please know that you could’ve pulled me aside and explained you had no $ and I would’ve paid for it. I’ve done this before with the odd kid who doesn’t have $ and it’s better than nicking one, especially in front of the teenagers we had working with us.

Cut to the next DA BBQ and there’s WCW weighted down with hundreds of coins to pay for the snags people claim they can’t afford 😂

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
