Is the thought with Duursma that North have just given up on him or is this just idle speculation?

If the former, maybe there are obvious cases I'm ignoring, but it seems so unusual to consider trading a top 5 pick after two years and less than 20 games.

Flanders would be perfect for us.

Agreed

Flanders is exactly the type of player we need to be going after if he’s gettable

Even if there’s only a small chance of him moving clubs we need to be on the front foot and not let other teams jump ahead of us in a queue

We’ve been sorely lacking in that regard since 2021

We've got some preliminary interest in Zane Duursma, could give some legs to the mooted Norf interest in Lever.

what's his value tho?

someone like a toumpas, for instance, went from being a pick 4 to effectively traded for pick 88, which was then on-traded to the pear for rodan

Given he was only drafted 2 years ago, and has shown potential (15 Goals in 9 VFL Games this season) His value should still be decently high. Maybe could get done for an early second rounder or Lever (which in my eyes considering we already have Kalani and Toby coming in the draft, a second rounder would be expendable) We have maintained our interest in him from his draft year, and I expect for the right price we will come knocking to North.

Forgot SOS was an unrestricted free agent, still find it a little unfair clubs get nothing for this

Clubs do get compensation for Unrestricted FA based on their age and contract at the new club. The restriction is only that clubs cannot match to force a trade.

Saints, GWS reap first-round compensation picks

The AFL was in a generous mood on the opening day of free agency, with St Kilda receiving a prized first-round draft pick for losing Josh Battle, and GWS also reaping big rewards.

This is probably a fair assessment of Zane Duursma. He's 190cm but is still lightly built and likes being able to play with some space (space that really isn't afforded to most players at AFL level). I think with some solid strength and conditioning he could become a real asset. I really hope that during this coach search we also look for a new fitness guru. Losing Darren Burgess was a massive loss. But maybe with Bucks (who still seems firm favourite) we will have a coach who also reinforces the need to take fitness seriously.

"Ruthless" I dont know. They are throwing ridiculous cash around for players not in the top 50 rated this year. Thye just seem intent in acquiring whatever they can get.
Let's see what happens with Flanders who I rate but if I had the choice between him or WIndhager to target its the latter all the way for me.

I can't really say I've seen much of him substantively to make a call either way, but definitely agree to an extent with the on-paper similarities. Upside being forward craft, strong hands and marking ability, and an ability to finish with high upside and athleticism, but questions over his endurance and midfield craft.

Whoops me brain is switched off today, then why would they get no compensation for the fella?

Unsure why there is talk of no compensation, but suspect it's based on the assumption that the net value of player(s) North would lose in the trade does not outweigh the net gain of incoming players. As a general statement, based on Duursma's age and potential contract at a new club, the baseline would be satisfied.

JT def continues to keep eyes on players he rated at draft. Let’s hope not. He looks like a massive bust.

I know he rated Bailey humphrey highly and he is one i hope we at some stage have a good crack at, I read an article and was surprised that he apparently signed a 4 year deal in 2023 on only 600K a year, we should of gone hard for him then.

Who is saying no compensation for SOS?

Carlton will get compensation, he's an unrestricted free agent. The League have a formula based on age, and the new contract of the free agent. Based on the predicted offers from Filth and Dogs, will probably be end of first round, start of second round compensation.

Agree, this has parallels with what they did bringing in FA for 2020, but all they got was to a SF. Bringing in a few NQR’s will not suddenly turn their list in to a premiership one.

TDK is quality, but the rest are not much chop.

Just been delisted by PA, or are his injuries more serious than I’m aware of?

He is a squib, shirks the contest and a flakey defender.

No thanks.

Let's just raid GWS like everyone else, surely there is a couple of players other than Derksen that want back to Victoria.

I'd rather your boy Brayden George, but he never seems to be able to get out on the paddock.

@roy11 Sorry mate, I thought we were talking about Duursma and not SOS here.

Max Heath linked to us on AFL.com, we’re also still linked to Derksen:

It would be great if we could be linked to an established AFL player for a change, but Heath seems like he could be a decent pick up at least 🤷

Looking at the list of uncontracted players

https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/out_of_contract_players

Heath, Derksen, maybe Mal Rosas. Have a crack at Windhager.

Campbell Chesser surely worth a phone call.

Can we bring Roan Steele back where he belongs?

Ted Clohesy is someone I wanted last year, solid depth mid/high half forward.

Bodie Ryan at the Hawks?

Campbell Gray from Richmond. Jack Buller at Sydney for the jokes alone.

Apparently a Victorian club is into Chesser as midfield depth, hope it’s us. Apparently was in the mix for us in his draft year (along with Wilmot & Brown).

Was quite impressed with Chesser when we played West Coast at Marvel

Seemed very clean and composed with his disposal, and got a fair bit of the ball in a losing effort

Would be great to add some more young midfield depth

Chesser would be a great get. Finally got his body right and looks quick and clean. Breaks lines and hits targets. Think I read Eagles have put a two year offer in front of him.

Brodie Kemp for Carlton is uncontracted looked good as a key forward when McKay and Curnow were out. Maybe we can untice him to Melbourne

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
