crom supporting friend said one of the big changes for them this year has been the likes of nankervis are NOT in their best side

he doesn't work hard enough defensively

Crom people talked up McAdam as well. Just saying.

Mason Cox would be like inviting Maynard to our best and fairest and formally apologisinh for allowing Brayshaw back on the field so that his head could strike poor Maynard's shoulder... Just can't...

Darcy Wilson a big tick, Derk could work, I've always seen something in Peter Wright so it just might.

I wondered if Caro was making a statement in the hope that Reid's family would pick Richmond but just a thought.

I'm actually not that sold on the kid tbh.

Butters and oscar Allen - Dee's 2026 flag!

We have invested far too much time into JVR to trade him now even considering our past habit of holding onto to suspect players until any doubt about their low worth was expunged.

It was worth noting the stats of JBR and Jeffo in the Carlton game at half time however.

curnow apparently wants to get to the suns?

wonder what happens there.

Another big boy for GC tho, assume white Jnr will be ours.

Would be a handy pickup for us. If he does go to GC, you’d think King is gone.

That’s a major upgrade for GCS. The King brothers have been a bust.

I instantly feel better about Saturday night 🤣

Wow, I've been wrong before about Calrton, but Cripps, Walsh, Jagga Smith and Cody Walker could be avery good midfield in 2-3 years time. Hopefully Cripps is just a little too old by then.

But they might be able to reset and build quickly around these new mids and become less predictable minus Curnow (and McKay?).

Ben has 45 goals this season, wish one of our young key forwards was a bust like this then

4th in the Coleman is a bust? More goals than Thilthorpe and Hogan is a bust?

That's some bust, as the bishop said to the actress.

Walsh’s back is cooked. They’re in big trouble Carlton with not much coming through.

Fairly confident that Jagga will deliver well beyond Walsh’s output, from the last few years, as soon as he hits the park.

Cody Walker will be an absolute jet. I've seen this kid first hand dominate senior footy at country league level.

Can see him becoming very similar to Will Ashcroft.

You can build a midfield around him and Jagga Smith who imo is another jet.

Yep, unfortunately.

Add the Camporeale twins and Dean's son to come and a nice batch of F'S's for Carlton.

Salary cap is a valid reason when we already have several players on big coin, and lots of youngsters coming through who will need to be paid more.
Also have to consider available list spots and trying to put together a sustainable list that will carry us forward for years to come.

Since 2021 our focus has clearly been on taking our top picks to the draft.

Senior
2 Jacob van Rooyen - pick 19
4 Judd McVee - rookie draft
6 Caleb Windsor - pick 7
12 Koltyn Tholstrup - pick 13
14 Jack Billings - trade (3rd round pick)
19 Harvey Langford - pick 6
20 Xavier Lindsay - pick 11
21 Matthew Jefferson - pick 15
22 Blake Howes - pick 39
23 Shane McAdam - trade (2nd round pick)
26 Jed Adams - pick 38
29 Tom Campbell - free agent
30 Harry Sharp - trade (3rd round pick and swap of steak knives)
33 Tom Fullarton - trade (3rd round pick)
40 Taj Woewodin - father son

Rookie
28 Will Verrall
38 Oliver Sestan
39 Ricky Mentha
41 Kynan Brown
42 Aidan Johnson
43 Jack Henderson
44 Luker Kentfield
45 Andy Moniz-Wakefield
46 Jai Culley

Obviously a few misses there, but all of the top selections are ok.

Would you rather we didn't have some/all of JVR/Windsor/Langford/Lindsay and instead throw everything at 28yo Houston types?

Missed the point. It was to bring in experienced players who add to your best 22. We lost players year on year and never replaced them. We have taken a strategy to not consolidate as a top team but gamble with the chance to get youth in. “All the top selections are ok” (?) I’d argue that … yes to JVR, Windsor, Lindsay and Langford. Kolt and Jeffo are highly doubtful. The main point was that we added players that were barely VFL players at other clubs and didn’t strengthen our best 22. We have got weaker year on year since 2021. We were a potential destination club for players to come to for a shot at a premiership. Not any more !!!

I'd argue that the drop off of some out senior core players that we are trying to build the side around is a much greater contributing factor than those we have brought in.

But that's another conversation.

And again, if we had brought in these best 22 players you speak of, for who and the expense of what?

If we traded away our draft picks we wouldn't have the young talent.

If we throw massive contracts at free agents, we probably wouldn't have been able to retain Kossie, or any of our younger stars when they are due an upgrade.

And then in a few years, when our core talent is close to retirement, the Houstons or whoever we brought in instead of young players are also 30+ and we have no JVR/Windsor/Langford/Lindsay's ... then what?

We'd become another West Coast

@JTR or Collingwood … who brought in smart trade , DFA and FA recruiting …Hill,Houston, Lipinski, Schultz, Perryman, Mcstay, and role players in Long, Markov, Frampton, Membrey, and still added Allan and West.

Archie Perkins?? You want Another mr. average in our team?

He is a 23 year old number 9 pick. he is a good replacement for Billings and hope we can get the best out of him. he will be cheap and there is potential there.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
