The amount of complaints about having Ben brown and Josh Schache on the list for too long was hard on the ears. IMO a list doesn’t need 6+ key forwards and we currently have

Petty*

Turner*

JVR

Jefferson

Fullarton

Johnson

Kentfield*

With Verrall as a ruck/fwd type on the list too. I get that petty and turner are swing types and kentfield is being trialed as a chb, but would rather not see any more brought on to the list until we decide someone is out first.

At the risk of upsetting a few here there are at least 4 on that list that arguably will never play AFL on a regular basis - we need to keep refreshing our stocks in the KPF ranks as it continues to be our Achilles heel imo

We really need all our defenders to take Hayden McLean aside today for a quiet chat about how great his opportunities would be at Melbourne, with clear puzzle holes of 'big lump of a forward' and 'supporting ruck' perfectly cut for him to fill.

Mate, buddy, my friend, can you see, can you see how much we'd appreciate you? So much love, and the money, oh yes, you'll get a lot more than a usual role player because you'll be filing such an important role. You could be the new David Hale. Glory and respect awaits!

Ollie Florent can't get a gig for the swans rabble, he's an almost player...polarising if you will....wonder if we'd have any interest

Why would we want an “almost player”? I think we have enough of those already.

Miles Bergman. Yes we were very very keen in his draft year. He’s developed as expected. A 5 year deal likely is on the table. Similar to what we probably were offering Houston. Saints will put all their $$$ into TDK. If that happens, Saints would be out of the chase for Bergman

Though Bergman is very good, we wouldn’t want to go too big in $$$$ spend. Need our $$$ for Disco, Bowsa, McVee etc who in the next 12 months will need for a top up in new contracts.

Ollie Florent. Sort of prototype running player that can play half back or midfield. His skills are excellent. Swans have more young talent coming in through the academy and he might get squeezed. But he’s a talent and a return home to family & friends might be tempting. Contract signed to 2029 so whilst he’s out of form now, it’s highly unlikely that he’s looking around imv.

funny, i was chatting with a bloods fan about florent after the vfl game and asking what's happened to him:

shadow of his former self

I think the positional change has hurt

But he’s been awful all season. I said in rd4 if we had no injuries he would have been dropped

Hypothetical: Carlton make Curnow available for trade - would we trade the bounty we get for Kossie for him? I’m a yes.

Bit of chatter out there at the moment re. Charlie.

there's chatter out there about curnow, mckay, and walsh at the baggers

with the news that the tasmanian stadia is in serious doubt, my baggers' supporting cousin thinks they should go full SCORCHED EARTH policy

They are dire in need of some decent small forwards. The fact that they traded away the only really competent small forward on their list to WC (Owies) was a poor decision in retrospect. Granted he may have been asking for too much, however the Blues list management have made some real doozies. Matt Kennedy another one.

Not sure if anyone else heard this but a mate said Billy Brownless said on Triple M he believes Jamarra is keen to play for the Dees if Kozzy stays....

Don't shoot the messenger.

Is he mates with Kozzy, Messenger? I thought he was mates with Clarry.

i'm not sure having jamarra and clarry together is a good idea.

From what I've heard, I don't think jamarra staying in Melbourne is a good idea.

We’re still chasing Miles Bergman according to the latest ‘inside trading’

Would be a handy get.

Jamarra would do too much damage to our brand, no way we take him on after our last few seasons of media beltings

Worth the risk IMO. We have a bit of history in bringing in players for second chances/fresh starts. Hasn't always worked but I feel our culture within the four walls (not in the hyperbolic media) is pretty sound and there aren't too many repeat offenders once they're in the red and blue in terms of off field stuff. We're getting some credit now with how well the club dealt with/supported Clayton through his struggles as a perfect example of the clubs cultural integrity.

As we saw on the weekend we can take it right up to the best in the comp. We have a top four backline and ball winning/contested midfield. We're just lacking some extra skill/kicking across our mid/front half which I feel we're slowly addressing as well as a genuine natural tall forward. Our backman-turned-forwards in Petts and JVR are going OK but imagine a fit and firing Jamarra in the mix.

No idea... just someone told me Bill Brownless said this on Triple M.

I imagine they would know each other from the Indigenous All stars and such.

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
