Hearing another well known Norm Smith medallist is soon to announce his retirement before catching up with Michael Voss for a coffee on Lygon Street 👀

Forgive me but you’re not talking about Trac are you?

Still interested in basically all of the young guns on this list. But I am now extra keen on Josh Ward. Proved on the weekend that when he gets to play in his preferred spot he has potential to be an A grade player.

22 Disposal (8 contested) and 9 Tackles from only 64% TOG.

Had the most tackles on the ground and looks to have improved his physicality.  With Will Day and McKenzie clearly the preferred options but out injured, he may be open to a club change.

Secondly, With the new Dusty bombshell, we MUST knock on the door of GC for young Humphries. unlikely he will break into that midfield anytime soon and is wasted playing full time forward pocket.

In: Ward, Humphries, Pick 5 (gun Mid).

This would be a huge boost for not only our midfield but the overall youth and excitement surrounding the club. I don't no about you all, but seeing Ward, Humphries, Smillie/O'Sullivan joining current youth would make me super excited for round 1

This youth added to our current vets sets us up for the long haul but also allows us to compete now.

Midfeild Group 2025: Trac, Oliver Viney, Rivers, Ward, Humphries, Pick 5. Plus the occasional cameo from Kozzy, Windsor,  Mcvee & Kolt.

Sorry, how are we getting two former first rounders, plus keeping our pick 5?

@dazzledavey36 I agree a 5 year term for Sheldrick is a stretch but if you are going to attract talent from other clubs, you have to be gutsy with $ and term.  That was more my angle.  Hawks apparently offering 6 year deals to Battle and Barrass to attract them.

Yes you're offering that amount of dollars  and years to attract quality talent that have consolidated themselves at AFL level not a depth VFL player that is similar player to Bailey Laurie and has kicked 1 goal at VFL level this year.

You can still attract by offering him a 2-3 year deal with a moderate pay perhaps.

Marchbank from Carlton would be worth a rookie possie.  Looked good to me on the odd occasion that he made it on the field.

He can certainly play! Would love him in the red a blue if possible. Not sure  5 years is necessary but maybe a 3+2 option deal....I would much rather chase players like this than old past it delisted players like Seb Ross, jack martin etc.

Of course. Everyone wants to get undervalued young players.

Were probably losing Brayshaw, Brown, Schacke, Smith, ANB, Tomlinson, Hunter. 7 players.

We will have Pick 5, Pick 25 (ANB), Sydney's second round pick and then a few picks of little value.

I don't want to have to look at delisted players either but it's a reality. We either give up a player of value or a draft pick of value to obtain a decent young player from another club.

Free agents would be fantastic, but we don't seem to ever get those ones.

Peatling says he’s staying. Davies signed on.

How’s the young midfielders list going:

Riley Garcia
Ted Closehy
Jack Carroll (WA bound)?
Ben Hobbs (contracted)
Finn Macrae (contracted)
Thomson Dow
Jai Culley

Feels like we’ve got to get one of them unless we’re getting a quality name or have some secret state league gems.

Can someone remind me where Waterman sits in the trade with us…still any kind of chance or did he re-sign with WC already?

Jake Ricciardi worth a look?

Alex Cincotta out of favour at carlton

Hobbs/tsatas not getting game time at bombers

Glad someone has finally brought up Riccardi.. it's an absolute yes from me! This one I feel like has gone under the radar especially as his form fell out towards the back end of the year.

Has played 19 games for 26 goals and is still only 24 years of age. Has the connection with Mark Williams and a massive upgrade on Petty.

Only thing is he's contracted until 2026.

Would definitely ask the question of Riccardi and was disappointed when he re-signed with them

Plus it doesn’t hurt that he’s ex Werribee

On that note I seriously hope Goody is getting down to their Prelim today, they’ve been such an impressive side this year and have some great footballers (Mannagh and Clohsey to name a couple)

Agree with Riccardi. It’s a shame we could not grab him when he was starrung in the VFL.

There is plenty of absolute “yes” players to be named. Could name a dozen more easily.  Of course their contract status (contracted) and then attracting them is the issue.  Even out of contract players are not attracted to MFC now.

Thats what makes the Tom Barrass switch to the Hawks so interesting.  He’s contracted at eagles until 2027 yet the hawks are now likely to get him in for next year.  They must have a big $$$ contract and long term contract in his face.

I'm usually one for getting nice new shiny toys, but after our trades over the past 3 years, I'd rather we went through the draft and got a batch of 5-6 kids in the door. I would be more than happy with another couple of kids of the calibre of Windsor and Tholstrup.

Watching the Casey team this season being filled with failed recruits from other clubs, and very little junior talent, I have more confidence in Jason Taylor than Tim Lamb/Alan Richardson.

Keep an eye out for Riley Bice and Dom Brew from Werribee.

I love Dom Brew, but don't think he'll get any real AFL interest.

Jack Riding is the one that I've been told has attracted some enquiries from AFL clubs, as well as Bice.

Brew has got some interest at AFL level. There is a level of resilience and dedication similar to Mannagh in why clubs love him.

His work rate is elite and obviously his consistency at VFL level is why I think clubs see similar to Mannagh.

Ive cooled on delisted players. cant remember a good example of one in recent times that has come back and established themselves at another team. Please correct me if im wrong as i got no sleep.

Can't question his work ethic or determination - bloke is an animal. Pretty unlikely a late 20s, 5'11" athletically limited pure midfielder gets picked up unfortunately. He was BOG again today in the prelim.

Mannagh has pace on his side, and hit the scoreboard. He's a better version of Kade Chandler.

Mannagh clearly had afl level talent the issue was whether he was going to play a team game and do the defensive stuff. The cats left him in the vfl for a long time this year just to get that buy in.

Brew seems to be the absolute vfl midfielder. Clubs rarely go for those guys. That said, Geelong have one who when in form this year and in 2022 he makes a huge impact and that’s Tom Atkins. Brew bosses around afl listed players in the vfl. It’s a huge step up trying to do that to Lachie Neale rather than Jarryd Lyons but who knows, if he has the tank then maybe.

Mass D’Ambrosio was stiff not to be AA.

Jez Sharp was best 22 for Freo all year.

Oleg Markov played in a flag last year.

Frankie Evans is settled in Port’s side right now.

Mason Wood excellent for St Kilda. Stocker not half bad either.

Levi Casboult had a good run at the Suns.

Not many get chances but those who do  have a reasonable success rate I think.

Kaine Baldwin might be the standout from a bunch of bad names so far but teams generally wait until trade week for their better quality delistings.

There has been a few but I would agree that 90% end up being delisted again the next season for a second or sometimes a third time!!!

Anyone know Henry Smith from the Lions?

206cm ruckman 12 tackles and 52 hitouts in the VFL Prelim.

scored 17.11 this year too.

At 21, would be a good fit to learn from Gawny?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
