Thanks for the reply Sydee. Appreciate itย

I would argue that Luke Jackson wasn't really much of a loss. He probably is for his ruck craft but we kind of covered that with Grundy.

Iย  think it's fair to say Jackson wasn't really a good forward.

Gus I believe is a big loss. And Oliver while playing this year hasn't been his best for sure.

Trac is only recently out.

I don't mean to be argumentive but I don't feel we have found cause for the drop off.ย

I think our forward line has deteriorated even more this year and our mids have been well below their best.ย

And without Petty and Lever starring in our backline that too has been ordinary lately.

Quite possibly you have to look at the contribution of those players as a group and the synergy they brought.

I see barely an oz of it out there currently.

When we play well, when ANY team plays well , theres synergy; there's fluid movement, there's purpose through design..

Until we see those elements come back we're going nowhere much. ( imo )

Jackson and Brayshaw out make a huge difference to the Sideย

We've obviously changed the way we play to minimise injuries so as to avoid getting to the finals completely banged up (again).ย  Unfortunately:

* We don't have the skills to play a less contact-style game, which has hurt us

* We lost Gus and Clarrie in the pre season, which has hurt us

* We haven't been able to cover the loss of Lever through stubbornness (why is Petty still up forward?) and inability (Tommo / others can't do it)

We do have some good kids coming through, it feels like we aren't *that* far away from being a factor again.ย  There will be a bit of a clear out at the end of the season, hopefully it frees up some salary to bring in some talent to top up and let us make a charge again!

Very excited to see how we go at this, 2017-style, for the rest of the season - nothing to lose!

Agree with the first part D rev

Not sure that Petty would cover off the Lever role given his apparent lack of agility / fitness until now.ย  Worth a try though.

You'd have to bring BB or Fullo in to replace.ย  No objections from me in trialling that either.

Hope we don't have the same finish as we did in 2017 though.ย  That loss to the filth still sticks in my gut as one of our worst losses under Goody.ย  And we meet them again in the last round.ย

Hopefully we've either secured a finals spot by then or alternatively nothing riding on it as we've already bombed.

Or the scenario has the satisfying twist of denying Beagle Boys inc. aka โ€˜The Filthโ€™ A finals berth. Of course as a final after thought โ€˜Brosโ€™ gets collected by the Karma Bus.

So, area by area, our players currently (let's say roughly the last month at least) down on form.

Defence:

McVee, Howes, (Lever),

Midfield:

Viney, Oliver, Sparrow, Langdon, Windsor

Forward:

Fritsch, Petty, Chandler,

Pickett (his extra midfield time has traded one goal a game for one clearance a game)

Bench:

McAdam, Billings, Hunter, Brown.

ย

Outright that's half of our best-22 spread evenly from our top 6 to our bottom 6.

Not drawing any conclusions. Just staring into the darkness of being a temporarily mid-table side.

Must agree with you - the darkness has been overall, not just from the western horizon. Please, MFC, address this through improved analysis and more logical action.

Lever definitely not a certainty this weekend according to his media interview today.

Has he been sighted at any training ?

FFS this was going to be a Gimme - not anymore.

Hoping the team can pull off a surprise for once.

I shudder to think how I would feel if we lose this one :(

Does ANB get more time in the middle? Has speed.ย

This Saturday we host the annual Pink Lady match. As both a Dees supporter and breast cancer survivor Iโ€™m super proud of our Clubโ€™s ongoing commitment to the BCNA.

It would be awesome to see as many Dees fans as possible in attendance. So if youโ€™re still undecided, please consider turning up. Weโ€™ll need all the help we can get to MAKE SOME NOISE! as the annoying lady on the microphone screeches at 1000 decibels. Especially since North supporters are sure to be doing exactly that.ย

Hopefully heโ€™ll still be able to wear his special warmup top even if heโ€™s not playing. The players will all have a breast cancer victimโ€™s name on their warmup top this Saturday. ย Names were randomly selected from thousands of nominations but Ricky chose his great mate Hugh Greenwoodโ€™s mumโ€™s name for his top. Hughโ€™s mum died several years ago following a long battle with breast cancer. Ricky and Hugh have been close since their time together at Adelaide and now Hughโ€™s with North so itโ€™s a beautiful gesture on Rickโ€™s part.ย

North at $5.50 is very good value considering their performance on the weekend. I might just do a small bet to cheer me up in case we slip further into the abyss.

One can only hope TC

Id call for Petty to be dropped or at least moved to the backline but Goody seems pretty stubborn about this. Although it seems he's painted himself into a corner because eventually his hand will be forced. I'm sorry but it's now down to just poor coaching with thisย  selection . It's probably harming the blokes career and he needs a spell at Casey to regain his old form and confidence. Preferably in the backline where he's played best. This is not an indictment of Petty. Lots of good players have slumps. I'm sure he doesn't want to be a fwd. This is now all on Goody as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't blame Petty for leaving but pretty sure we wouldn't get the same offer again.

Not what Petty himself has said, but heh, what would he know.

Thanks Bingers.

I didn't know he had said that. Im guessing it was a while ago and that he likely regrets it.

Who is coming in the MCG gates to watch?ย

I'm going

18,600 is the lowest MCG crowd between the two sides in the AFL era. That occurred in 1992 on a wet day where we ran away with it in the last quarter.

Is that under threat this Saturday?

ย

lets get Taj, Bowey, Rivers and Windsor into the midfield rotation, if we don't have the star power we once had, perhaps the best tactic is to share the load and change the look of that area.ย

It's pointless to front up with the same B minus midfield mix and get beaten the same way for the next 8 or 9 weeks, we've got the rest of this season to try a few things, re-establish our identity as a team, work out who is going to help us win our next flag and re-launch for 2025ย

we aren't going to win a flag with Petracca out and Oliver and Viney so far away from their best footy.ย

ย

McDonald to go forward while his confidence is sky high and Petty to play down back. If it's not working out, swap them back at half time. Alternatively, drop Petty, bring Tommo back and play him in defence instead.

Good point on Pettys agility, I keep forgetting about his pre-season.ย  I agree it's worth trying him down back as its not working up forward.ย  He's a smart footballer, I really think we could be getting more - or maybe Casey could!

Agree on the 2017 finish, I used that season as a comparison as we were in a similar place; hopefully we do better andย  barnstorm to the finals and set a standard for next season.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields.
