That is a good point and makes a lot more sense (although I read that he wasn't sighted with the Casey group?). Am definitely in favour of him getting more minutes in the 2s to build up for a proper start in the main team. Would not be a total surprise if he was a sub for last qtr shenanigans. But that doesn't help to get good minutes in him, so the less likely option.

No player should be selected as the sub unless they can play a full game. You never know how early in a game the sub role is going to be activated to replace an injured player.

I agree that it is a matter worth discussing.  The natural home for any such thread would be "General Discussion" board, which is intended for non-footy related topics.

For once D, I disagree with you. I acknowledge that there is a general discussion board, but how many people on DL visit it? Am I the only one who hasn’t? This is a very important issue and one that the AFL is supporting this round, so I think a stand-alone thread on this board is appropriate in this case. Just my thoughts though.

Our moderators lack the time and training to manage these issues to everyone's satisfaction.

In this instance, I had at least two women express discomfort and a feeling of unsafety due to the heated nature of the discussion in that thread, and they were not alone in their concerns.

Administering this website can be particularly stressful, especially this year, and I've come close to shutting it down several times.

I think what Andy has noted above is really important, with the second para of critical importance and raises an issue that i was just thinking of highlighting - the safety of victim survivors, women and children who read DL.

On the topic of family violence, i wholeheartedly agree there needs to be discussion in society, particularly amongst men.

But i don't believe a football focused thread is the appropriate space for such discussions (and even in the general forum i would have my concerns because of the risks of misinformation and traumatizing victim survivors if not expertly moderated - which is an incredibly difficult thing to do if the topic is family violence).

I 1000% support the decision to not have a discussion about family violence on a football thread.

I think discussion is important.

But i believe that the most important discussions are those by men with their family, particularly their sons, and friends, particularly their male friends.

Critical is understanding what family violence is, how many different types of family violence there are (eg financial control, psychological, electronic surveillance, control, emotional abuse, use of technology etc) and what drives it.

A great place to start is the -Victoria's Royal Commission into Family Violence.

For more general information Victoria's peak body for family and gender-based violence Safe Steps is great.

For information about men's use of violence, Victoria's peak for ending male violence, No to Violence is a terrific resource.

And if you are man who is concerned about your use of violence, the Men's Referral Service is the national counselling, information and referral service for men who use violence and abuse who want to change their behaviour.

It is a confidential, anonymous service available 24/7 that you can call on 1300 766 491.

By all reports Melksham should be back by Kings Birthday. McAdam would want to get a good block of games in before then. I imagine that these two will be competing for the same spot or do you think they can play in the same team?

Ready to play in about 6 weeks but in VFL.

Chin obviously pulled up fine with his knee?

@WalkingCivilWar did you talk to Kalani to make sure he is going to nominate the Dees, and explain there will be hell to pay otherwise?

I didn’t think to ask that, I just assume he will 😝

Speaking of sons of guns, little Pup Brown told me he’s been a Demons fan forever and when he first came to the club he was “fan-girling big-time” over Vines. I said, “It must feel unreal to know you’ll probably play alongside him, considering you used to fan-girl over him.” He said, “Used to? I STILL DO!” 🥹 Bless

Based on our Bench (if that's where the sub is coming from) then it has to be between Laurie and Woey. Since Woey was played in Salem's position I would assume he will be given that role again this week. Therefore the sub is likely to be Laurie again.

None of which inspire confidence

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res
