If only Brock didnt get injured you may have a diffrent outlook, and I think Davey is a match winner, provided umpires dont pay free kicks against Neitz.

We have potential superstars - McClean (if he stays injury free), Bruce (when he is given a set position), Rivers (when he has support and is injury free) and Davey (when he applies himself consistently).

We need to play more as a super team rather than have a superstar. PTA won a premiership without a genuine superstar. Same with the Swans (perhaps Goodes or Hall are superstars). If Neitz would remain injury free he could probably be like Hall.

Rather than need a superstar, we need a good medical team and perhaps more imprtantly a fitness coach who knows about football rather than athletics.

white definitely was.

i really am one to stick with the 'champion team' philosophy, and i think that in today's saturated society, any good player in a champion team gets built up into the mould of a 'superstar.'

I wouldn't put any Melbourne player in the superstar category.

I do however have high hopes for Davey, McLean and Rivers. These are three blokes we must build our team around.

Jones and Sylvia are outside chances of becoming superstars.

Bruce and Green are no where near the mark.

if bruce is even close to a superstar, i'm glad we don't have any.

As much as it hurts me to say it, we do not have a single player with the capacity to take a game by the scuff of the neck.

Think about it, who could you seriously rate as a game turner? A player who literally makes the game his own?

Not one.

We have a few who can produce some, occasional, inconsistient and patchy moments of great play, or freak goals, most often when the pressure is off.

But we don't have an Adam Goodes, Chris Judd or Jonathon Brown.

The list says it all.

Brock > often injured

Sylvia > potential when will it be delivered?

Johnston > every third or forth week

Nietz > nearing the end and it shows

White > fading

Davey > the flash in name and nature (as in the occasional flash)

JMac > a brave goer

Miller > plodder

Jamar > big and?

Paul Johnson > free trip to WA to see mum and dad

Godfrey > probably bleeds red and blue big hearted "clubman"

Whelan > See above

Bell, Dunn, Petterd, Bate, Bartram not one has made me sit up and think "wow, how ggod is this kid?"

I now think we are in a world of hurt. I hope we dont hear the re-building phase bit.

We had a superstar

His name was Garry Lyon.

He played 10 games.

Hence the luck of the MFC.

Yah. Johnson is as Victorian as you can get (whatever that means  lol). I remembering him quoting somewhere how he hated talking to his parents on the phone and he was over the moon to be coming back to Melbourne.

Yeah, I'd say Trav was always in there as "star-possibility," but he has never played like one, and never will.

If Bruce was to be a superstar, he would have already achieved it by now. He might have become one if it wasn't for that thug Guerra and his tackle, @$$hole.

Are saying this because you think it shattered Bruce's confidence?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
