This is not going to be a walk over. The only certain win right now is West Coast. We have to come out and start well to take the crowd out of the equation

Like we did last week vs port?

Half of Adelaide actIng like it’s Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Elton John and Pink in one big mega-show. The other half are all, oh that football thing is on now, is it? What’s it called… The Gathering? (A woman actually said that to me. 😅)

My beautiful, bossy, molto talented wife is Polish. When I told the woman at Europa cakes in Carnegie that my wife is Polish, she replied, Polish girls keep you on your toes. I replied, But I'm not a ballerina!

The best traditional (jam style) donuts in Melb.

The piece de resistancee... the plum jam filling 👌🏻

Not to be confused with the hot (ball) jam donuts at the footy et al whIch are also pretty special.

Nah no walkovers this week. Getting a win alone will be a pretty good achievement against a mob who is desperate and in their own park.

Probably thought we were card nerds or something.

This game and West coast are probably our best chances for 100 point win.    Other teams will do it to them so we have to as well.   Percentage could be king at end of season.  Fill your boots Dees!!

Lol, you're kidding right?

I'll eat my hat if we win by 100.

Hunter, Laurie, Spargo, AMW, Woewodin, Fullarton, Tholstrup, Melksham, Tomlinson, McAdam, Adams, Brown, Turner, Sestan all are attempting to break into the side. It's funny when you're winning, even your depth looks fantastic. It was less than a month ago I was bemoaning our thin list. :)

That's because you flip flop, ya duffer.

I think I'm the most nervy when people start talking margins as if the win is Fait accompli.

Forget Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Elton and Pink. Whenever I see it written as "The Gathering" I keep thinking of Diana Ross and the Supremes singing "The Happening"

Well I am!

Love a few games of commander with mates before the game.

Quiet on the old boards 90 mins before bounce. You'd think it was a weeknight.

Will miss the first quarter or so of this game travelling on an interstate flight.

The last time something similar happened, I switched onto the footy in my hotel in Perth and saw the MFC amazingly in the game on the scoreboard against Geeeelong at Cat park in Gawn's breakout game.  We know how that turned out!

...hopefully that's an omen.

Spot on.  Flying out tomorrow with two wins from two in the toughest gather round draw for sure (playing both SA teams in a true home ground advantage to them) will be the in-season highlight for me.

A one point win will satisify me.

Our draw BTW is scandalous but predictable AFL stuff up of the important things.

Trying to frantically get everyone fed, showered and [censored] off is a marathon on a Thursday night post work and pre football.
I absolutely loath Thursday night football. Such an unfriendly fixture for anyone under the age of 70.

Good thing none of our starting 22 are over 70 😂

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
