And it's not like he wrote that in Feb or early March. It was a day before the start of the end...that disappointing loss to the saints. How wrong everyone was...

We all got egg on our faces, i know i do, that is why apart from here and some fellow dees supporters, i dont talk about my support of the dees

really? i mean i know i have serious egg, but i don't think i wore as much dees stuff all year last year as i have this year. i find it boring to parade around after a win, but after a loss you've gotta show you're behind the boys

Please explain the purpose and benefits of this thread. I'd be really interested to know.

Or is it just another opportunity to put the boots in?

What's the purpose or benefit of any thread in any forum?

The purpose is to discuss our current situation fan, which is obviously as dire as it could possibly be. If we weren't discussing the current issues then this place would be very quiet.

At the start of the year the MFC told us we were close to a premiership, even the writer of this article thought along the same lines, reflection on the past isn't such a bad thing, just let this thread follow it's natural course.

At least the contributors haven't accused fellow barrackers of not being a true supporter.

Yes you're probably right Jarka. I would have thought there are about 15 threads on the front page alone that give contributors a chance to sledge the club and highlight our situation and I'm wondering why there is a need to find other avenues to make the same point over and over again.

It's time for me to butt out and stop getting upset that people feel the need to vent their spleen on people they don't know and situations they don't fully understand and let nature take its vile course.

There is no doubt in my mind that "supporter" is the most misused word in footy.

Fan, seriously, has this ever been any different in any kind of sport anywhere on the globe?

However, your post bears a remarkable resemblance to a pm that I sent you earlier this week, I suppose you now understand my frustration with that particular topic and as we both know neither of our concerns are going to change, are they?

None of us know everything that goes on behind closed doors. Some of us know more than others, but in general, 99% of the discussion on these boards is speculative and is a matter of opinion.

I don't think that just because people are unhappy with our current position, and therefore feel the need to express their disappointment, that they are any less or any more of a supporter.

I doubt very much that anyone who didn't love the club and the team, would spend their time on this website.

The fact that some posters like yourself rather observe, than throw criticism, is what makes this place interesting.

But given that we are 0-8, after many supporters and indeed the club was working towards a top 4 finish, I think that we have seen a lot more reasonable, rational, calm discussion than I expected. It does get repetitive, yes, but you can hardly be surprised with the disappointment and heartbreak that everyone is feeling, and which I'm sure you share.

When you get 1000 Melbourne supporters in one place, you also get 7 million opinions and a lot of bitterness. But then, when you haven't won a premiership in over 40 years, what do you expect?

This season's results are definitely depressing but the big picture is not dire, the new stadium deal has just been done (compare to North) and we still have a decent list (compare to Richmond).

At the start of the year the MFC told us we were close to a premiership.

No they didn't, the most they said and that anyone can ever say is that we were in a position to challenge for the premiership, there's a subtle but significant difference. No-one promised anyone a flag, ever, posters carry on here like they did. With luck we could have challenged for this year's premiership, as it is we've had nothing but bad luck.

i think thats a very pertinent point old, i dont think at the start of the season any team could say that they are definite favourites for the premiership. while obviously one would point at the jaggurnaught that is west coast it only takes a couple of injuries to strike them down as well. if they lost judd, kerr, embly, lynch, staker, cox and glass do you think they would win the flag? probably not. they might not be 0-8 but they wouldnt be favourites or on top of the ladder.

the clubs are so even with the salary cap and the draft that the difference between the lists is marginal. even if it is 60 points or 150 points on the weekend the true difference between the list is the little things. injuries, form, confidence, rub of the luck are the things that decide who wins the premiership. someone wrote in another post about 'if the planets are aligned', well thats how it is for every team. if everything had of fit into place this year we would be in the top 8 at the moment. if we were playing like we were last year, but had petterd, jones and dunn come on like they have, godders tagging as tight as it has been, and juice knocking on the door at sandy we'd be laughing.

yes there are ways to fix this. confidence and motivation- could be coaching staff. psychologists?

injuries? preparation and management.

form? i've got no idea how to control form.

but things can be decided simply by a ball bouncing the wrong way, or an unfortunate umpiring decision that costs you the match. if the umpires didnt pay that free against neitz and we beat PA they would be 5-3, playing geelong this week and a chance to drop to the bottom of the 8 if they lose. not second place, having been in first place.

I read his article when it was published, agreed wholeheartedly with it and e-mailed the link to a few friends because I thought it hit the nail on the head. I'd have to crack an egg over my own scone before I threw one at Greg Denham.

I believe that the real 'dire' situation will be uncovered after the end of the season, and that's our financial position, I'm not sure if this club can survive if our members drop off because or poor performances.

I have the whole carton on my face.

I thought we'd be top 4 and wouldn't lose a game until we played WCE.

Same. I was actually thinking, "We should be 7-0." It's the first time in the 20 years I've been alive that I've actually had enough confidence about the Melbourne Football Club to say they'd be 7-0. And yet, they disappointed yet again...they bring it down to an artform, as I've said before.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
