Great question @whatwhat say what
I’m thrilled with the win, but reluctant to read too much into it at this stage (a touch of MFCSS perhaps?).  I think R 0 vs the Swans handed us a considerable advantage, as evidenced by Footscray’s last quarter fade-out, and (imo) their lack of pressure, especially in the second half.
Love the pods guys.  Thanks!

Thoughts on our use of the wings? Langdon appears to be back to his best with gut run and link. Something new I was us splitting our offensive wing between Windsor from HB to center, and then billings from center to HF. The conditions and game plan suited Billings strengths to a tee.

That's fascinating - and new? (Not tge hea map the defensive forward half split)

I assume that's on the AFL app.

Don't think so, was certainly around last year and prior. It is just cropped screenshots from the AFL as well.

So billings and Windsor played on the same side of the ground the whole game (except when one was off the ground)?

What position then would you say billings played?

I was trying to work it out at the game. I watched the replay and still couldn't really work it out - I presume half forward flank when in 666 but basically a winger/utility once play starts?

(Its something that drives me nuts - I don't understand why at centre bounces after a goal the broadcasters don't show a graphic, even if only in the corner of the screen of where all players are set up like used in cricket coverage to show fielding positions).

Sorry, not sure what you mean. They are screen shots from where?

Last week you had a discussion about whether Salem's midfield role would be impacted by the loss of Bowey and you were lamenting losing a sort of new found weapon in the middle that was needed with the loss of Gus and the uncertainty surrounding Oliver a few weeks back. Well yesterday we witness the glorious return of Clarry to the MCG and Salem attended the most centre bounces of all of our midfielders and Hore was an adequate replacement for Bowey. I'd call that a win.

Thanks to Demonlander @deanox for the stats.

As an addendum were you happy with Kozzy Pickett's 7 centre bounce attendances. Is this enough or do you want more?

I would say billings played wing hf.

Old school strategy would say there can be only one winger on each side. But I think the running was shared between windsor/billings to protect their gas tanks.

i blieve he started outside forward 50 at the bounce, ran to the midpoint to recieve the ball off a chain in the back half and then rn back to forward 50 to link again into the forward 50.

There is a thread on Demonland about the crowd numbers for our match against the Bulldogs and the media pile on. I'll leave it up to you whether you want to read the post by @Katrina Dee Fan but she makes some interesting points. I thought the Dees were well represented on the day and it was the Bulldog fans who stayed away. Had we been playing another Victorian team (one of the other big 5 or 6) we may have got 70 to 80,000. The empty AFL members doesn't help the optics for anyone just casually watching on TV or seeing highlights. The MCC was well attended.

As Binman said, there would have been some variation as the players take spells on the bench.

Apologies if this has already been put forward. It's probably more of a general comment of team selection... but.

Can we have a discussion on the non selection of Thommo, in the sense that most people agree he was stiff to be dropped.

Was he dropped because he had a poor game? That seems unlikely

Was he dropped because he is behind TMAC in the pecking order - potentially.

Was he dropped because he failed(s) to meet certain internal KPI's - potentially as well.

What I think also needs to be considered is that over the course of the season, certain teams, have certain preferred match ups, and all things considered some of the players in the picked 20-27 range will be in and out of the side based on that weeks opponents, and non selction is not an indicator of a binary, are you good or are you poor.

Can any of the panel explain why Tomlinson was dropped?

Who was manning Jamara ugly Hagar during the match, it’s hard to see the match ups on tv.

Thanks for all the work on the pod guys!!!

Bloody autocorrect.  It wasn’t intentional to write Ugly, although that’s how it felt watching him play really well against us :.)

Ugle-Hagan is what I meant.

Short turnaround this week so get those questions in.

No question here but just saying there was a lot hanging on that game, a lot of built up emotion, hope and expectation, as a club we really had to come out and make a statement and I think we did and Olivers standing ovation and the emotion that went with it really says  everything about what supporters and club have been through in this last period of time, thanks !

It was great to see Brown fit and firing and I remember that he had a few big weeks at the start of last season too. I thought that Brown really helped with the structure up forward and he consistently brought the ball to ground when needed. His presence also clearly assisted JVR. My question is whether that is a function of having a leading tall in the side and Petty will be a straight swap when fit or do you think Brown keep his place if fit?

After a win am I looking at our list with rose coloured glasses on and thinking that we have plenty of upside from those not selected. Looks like we will bat deep this season, via the developmental possibilities, and those returning from injuries.

Petty, Melksham, Hunter, McAdams, Bowey, AMW, K.Brown, Tholstrup, Jed Adams, Verrall, Fullarton, Spargo, Laurie, Tomlinson, Schache, Turner, Sestan Farris-White, Jefferson.

What are your thoughts on those outside the 22 and given Goody likes a stable team will they get a go?

I'm looking forward to another monster podcast this week as my only link to credible information about the club that I love. Thanks for all your hard work guys. Demonland, the match previews and reports, the training intel and the Podcast is so invaluable. You can't imagine how much it is appreciated by those of us bereft of any news, info and banter in our daily lives.

Living across the ditch I only get the footy info that I actively seek out which is mostly via Demonland and some social media. As a result I know next to nothing about the current crop at Hawthorn particularly since they have thankfully been largely irrelevant since we knocked them out of the finals in 2018. I know they have an exciting crop of young midfielders and have been ravaged by injuries in the early part of the preseason and may have their Captain and best defender in Sicily out this week. Other than that I know squat about our opponent this coming week. Can you shed some light on what we can expect this week and who is likely to trouble us.

Understand it’s late and I’m sure it’ll be mentioned on the pod anyway but take a bow Jack Billings - if he can keep his body right he’ll be one of the recruits of the season.

His second game in the Red and Blue against Footscray was very impressive with:

23 disposals

15 marks

20 kicks

10 score involvements

21 pressure acts

1 goal

The management of Petty and BBB is crucial to our finals success in september, our first big test of our player management planning is the back to back games in Adelaide.

Petty in this week even thought he was very, very rusty in his VFL hit out, BBB rested for the Port game.

BBB out for the Adelaide game and Petty in for Gather round.

I would also be contemplating Fullerton coming in Against either the Powa or Crows to help Max out during this period.

Thoughts Gentlemen?

@kev martin just putting the run sheet together and although I like this question I think we will park it for the moment. It's definitely one we should look at in the coming weeks when we have more data from Casey to go on.

I hope you understand. The show is choccas already.

Perhaps in Bye week. @kev martin

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
