PREGAME: Opening Round vs Sydney

Demonland

Very exciting news for the club. For Howes to break into the backline he must be very highly regarded by the FD. Billings and Windsor seem like natural and complementary fits to our crash and bash. All with a healthy Clarry returning. Team balance feels on point at the moment.

All big ticks for clarry.

But also a massive tick for the club, how it has handled this situation, and yes its culture.

And a massive cross for the media and the media model.

Slam us for months with all the preseason from hell and salacious innuendo bulltish. Drive a narrative not supported by the facts. All's fair in clicks and war.

And then don't balance that with any retractions or contrary stories and information.

Sure, when clarry gets back and we are travellimg ok there will be a few token redemption stories, good for clicks.

But they won't come close to balancing out all the slanderous, false narrative rubbish the media has thrown at the club for the last five months.

By the by, Sammy is one of the few footy journalists I respect. He has been a lone voice of balance and non hyperbole. Good on him.

Yet they are accountable to no one, If not encouraged by the toxic system they exist in. Even with our understanding of mental health and how hard it can be for young men in the spotlight being dragged through nonsense rumour and innuendo. The best thing we can all do is turn it off which is the only way they will be held accountable and or forced to change.

Loved Jacko, followed him from end to end every quarter, possibly the most offbeat and entertaining Dee of all time.

That said… his bark was infinitely more frightening than his bite

Shaping up to rugged Ronnie Andrew’s?

Doesn't Goodwin have a policy of not picking debutants as the sub?

at least with the new system there is a higher chance of the sub being used than the medical sub days  (Just dont think about the Semi Final)

Policy might be too strong a word.

I mean he might have said it at some point, but surely it's not set in stone.

BDJ is the logical sub imo given he started against the tigers, was the sub against the blues and there is no obvious best, or borderline best, 22 available (with the possible exception of woey I guess).

I’m a little disappointed AMW doesn’t seem to have taken the next step. I’m not a huge Chandler fan and was hoping to see AMW really step up this year.

Hardly had a pre season again, has just come back to match play

Moving Salem was vital, for both Salo and the midfield balance, after which if not Howes there really isn’t anyone else right now. I’m not sure Howes is ready to be a permanent fixture, iffy at the contest and doesn’t get enough of it. But he has huge upside so I can see why they want to get games in to him.

Unless we go slower with Hore I don’t know what our next best option is for half back. Woey, Tholstrup, Billings, Hunter?

Have had opposition supporters saying they have inside info he won’t play all year.

I have been replying all summer without any inside info, that he will play first round if his fitness is ok and Medical people have no issue.

Hopefully he plays and has a great season and sticks it up the whole AFL media and opposition.

Clarrie for Brownlow would really stick it to the media pack of hyenas

I hope all the supporters get around Clarry. Our most important player, club champion multiple times, has been through public hell and deserves a lot of love from the Dees faithful.

An arguable claim. You may be correct, but I'm sure others would support Gawn, Petracca, Viney and May as other contenders for the title. Me? I think it's Gawn for his play plus his leadership.

Brown Dog Junior (BDJ) will be super sub (opinion not fact).

I agree, bring him on for some pace and footy smarts late in the game, the others will tire from the first hit up for the season. The Pup will be untouchable at that stage.

My other guess for sub is TMac, versatility to cover if a key position player is injured.

IMO i reckon it might be Fullerton as Sub.

Fullarton is bit underdone, and as as he is new to club would have had to pick up our new structures and roles quickly.

Though, not without a chance.

Some mock drafts had Howes going in the top 20, and almost all in the top 30 prior to his draft when we grabbed him at 39. So he has 'pedigree'. He was emergency in 2022 before his stress fracture.

Could be our next Jordon type... second rounder who was had to mature and wait for a chance.

Simon Goodwin has said:

Howes and Windsor to debut.

Billings and Oliver to play.

Brayshaw to take some time away from football before the club puts something in front of him.  Very pleased to hear he will be part of MFC

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
