Let’s keep the thread on topic folks. No derailments. Footy is nigh.

Don’t forget to buy a snag from @WalkingCivilWar at the Demon Army BBQ to support the cheersquad.

Mention Demonland to get 0% off.

Just don't ask for a chicken burger.

I am not too sure how many will be out but the following is my stab at first 18 with what I think are players who have minor injuries or are a bit underdone to play yet left out (see list).

B: McVee May Hore/Tomlinson

HB: Rivers/Brayshaw Lever Bowey

C: Langdon Petracca Billings

HF: ANB Schache Chandler/Tholstrup

F: Pickett* JVR Fritsch

Ru: Gawn Sparrow Viney

Int: Salem (should be managed back to just two quarters), Laurie, Windsor, Spargo

Injured/unavailabe: Oliver, McAdam, Petty, T.Mac, Melky, Hunter, Fullarton, B.Brown, Turner

* Pickett out Rd 1 (susp).

To play final 2 quarters with VFL players - Howes, Jefferson, Adams, Verrall, Sestan, Woewodin, K.Brown, Farris-White, Moniz-Wakefield

And in the absence of injured tall forwards, Schache has to be given first shot at the role of forward/back-up ruck.

We cannot continue to risk JVR getting injured as the back-up ruck - yes I get that he is better qualified to do it, but Schache deserves first shot at it before we try more risky/reward options such as swap out a defender such as May to fix our forward woes.

The other thing we all should remember is that the SCG favours talls - it is shorter than other grounds and you need more marklng options than normal. Hence Schache is required for the season opener and should only miss if he shows absolutely nothing in our two practice games.

I think Oliver may play a quarter or 2 like Salem when the youngsters come on. I think Howes and Woewodin will play with the senior players. I think the First 4 quarters will be seniors' last 3 quarters' will be reserves.

Seniors

B: McVee, May, Lever

HB: Rivers, Tomlinson, Bowey

C: Windsor, Petracca, Langdon

HF: Billings, van Rooyen, Neal-Bullen

F: Fritsch, Schache, Pickett

FOLL: Gawn, Brayshaw, Viney

IC: Howes, Sparrow, Laurie, Spargo

Chandler, Woewodin, Hore, Tholstrup

Reserves

Salem, Oliver, Jefferson, Adams, Verrall

Sestan, K. Brown, Farris-White, Moniz-Wakefield

Can't wait for the game especially to see how the youngsters go. It's good to have footy back. Go Dees.

Is Hunter still injured ? How many weeks?

He was in the rehab group on a modified running program after Christmas before briefly returning to the main group before returning to the rehab group for the last 2 or 3 weeks. No word on a return date from any official channels.

I understand the benefits of a scratch/practice match, but they make me nervous. A player sustaining an injury during the season proper is one thing, but doing so when there’s not four points on the line is another thing entirely.

Yes. Bring it on. it’s been forever.

I use pregame, gameday, and post game threads as my relaxing read.
Away OS in September so if that is not a reason to see as much as I can during the year.  I don’t know what is.

You’re doing relaxing wrong 😅

For the literalists out there, I know 7 is an odd number. But, it seems odd as much figuratively as literally. I can't get my head around why there are going to be 7 periods of play.

Yes not enough red wine.

With 7 periods of play

you can have 2 seperate teams play 3 quarters.  And the middle mixed to give certain players time off or extra time

and you get to see how some youngsters go in strong competition

well that’s how I see it,

I am making my first trip down to Casey this Sunday. Is there adequate parking if I am a little late for the 10am start time. Might not get there till just after 10.

As this is a substitute for the Family Day will players be available after the game for autographs or at least the players who might not be playing?

Is there any seating available?

Thank you in advance for any answers. Excited to see the Dees play live in the flesh again.

Ok Pingu.... think Australia zoo, meets Wet and Wild, meets Dr.Who, meets Groundhog day, with a touch of the supurnatural, meets Beyond Thunderdome and you end up with CASEY FIELDS! Get the picture? Oh yes Parking? Think VFL park Waverley!

I just hope they’re not seven regular-length quarters. 😳

Went to put Kayo back on and it’s $35 per month so ended up buying an armchair membership for $250 so works out about $20 per month and I assume will go towards our membership tally, so anyone with Kayo who are paying the $35 cancel it and sign up through the club

I was sure you were going to include Snakes on a Plane in your pop culture references

It's strange I got a rejoining offer of $15 off a month for 12 months limited time to accept but haven't heard of anyone else on here receiving it.

I think you get select games in 4K this season on Kayo.

😅

Thanks for posting that WCW, very informative.

I'm particulalry interested in the Beyond Bank presence as I'm a customer and the only branch they have in Melbourne is in South Melbourne, which is hugely inconvenient. I've been trying to deposit a cheque for three years. Hopefully they'll accept it at the ground. And I'll score a donut too. What a win.

IMHO some of these kiosks are a little bit of a waste of space (Soz sponsors 😬). They might give out badges or pencils or whatever but mostly they don’t appeal to kids. Face painting and the bouncy castle are where it’s at!

And a snag from the DA team

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
