i think it's more to do with aflw than afl.  there's your reason.

The WAFL equivalent of the Football Record “The Budget” only publishes the weight of the League, Ressies and Colts players the WAFL Women’s senior and Rogers Cup (Colts) players do not have their weight published

what next?

no height, no age, no clanger stats, no frees against stats, no disposals .......

won't matter in another 20 years as all afl teams will be droids with an ai bot as the coach

I don't know about that, but I can share the results of a recent University study.

The research discovered that women who carry a little extra weight outlive the men who mention it.

World of Sport around 1978

Jack Dyer: Welcome young son. Your name’s Andrew Moir isn’t it?

Moir: Yes, that’s right Jack

Jack Dyer: And you played a beautiful game down there for Melbourne against South at the Lakeside oval yesadee

Moir: Yeah – managed to snap a few Jack

Jack Dyer: - now this is your first season – where did you come from?

Moir: They recruited me from Mentone Grammer Jack

Jack Dyer: (giggle) that’s pretty swank (under his breath . . . typical Melbourne) – now son what’s your height?

Mior: six foot Jack

Jack Dyer: now you're 11 and a half stone, how much do you weigh Son?

Moir: errrr . . . 11 and a half stone Jack.

Weight is an important stat. In rugby league & union they noted the weight of players over the last 50 years & found the modern player was considerably heavier (and fitter) today.

This has informed rule changes & concussion protocols.

Last time I tried weighing myself on the talking scales, the machine said "One at a time, please".

I think this is a wonderful move by the AFL.

I can see why they have done it, but it can take away some interest.

For example, last year, I was interested in how the younger players were developing and competing against older opposition players. It was surprising that they were sometimes 15kg lighter than their opposition.

This year, it looks as though many have increased their muscle mass and fitness. But who really knows?

This bloke always did look a bit skinny, so perhaps weight has nothing to do with playing AFL footy?

Strange to say but he did bulk up (comparatively)        Look at the very young in this video.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
