Demonstone's Soporific Sunday Sneaky Showoff Sensation

Man, it's so quiet around here you could hear a ping drop.

The season's over, the trade period is done and dusted and the draft is still weeks away.

The boards are largely dormant (but hopefully not moribund) and it's clearly time for some Demonland CULTURE!

You all know the drill by now.  What common factor unites the players in this team?  Answers in a PM only.

Virtual draft prizes can be yours!  You could possibly select Reed, Curtain, Durrsma, Saunders or Caddie but that might spell trouble.  :D

Another clue, you say?  OK then!  The misspellings in the OP are not relevant.  In fact, there are no clues at all secreted among the intro or in any of my responses to date.  Is that a clue or a non-clue?  I haven't a clue.

To redress the obfuscation in my previous post, it's time for a proper clue.

There's no sub in today's team but, at the risk of going in far too top-heavy, that spot in this team would be amply filled by the huge frame of former Fitzroy giant ruckman Dean Farnham.

Perhaps name a Captain, one stands out...

Final clue before the reveal later on this morning:

One player is unique in that he appears in the joke team above and also in the solution team.

Who could it be now?  Forget Men At Work, it's time to put your brain to work.

...by which I presume you mean the full name features in both teams? I can see no other way to interpret your 'clue'...

p.s. Contemplating changing my name, à la @Cranky Franky, to Crabby Trabby for these darned things!

That is correct.  I'll post the answer in a little while but have some other business to attend to first.

Congrats to @tilly18 who has solved the mystery and wins a second round draft pick.  There are always some bargains to be found there, particularly if your name is Jason Taylor.

So here we go!

All the players in my team share a surname with a recipient of the Australian Of The Year Award.

Adam Goodes is the player who features in both lists and Mark Taylor is (I think) the captain referred to by  @Graeme Yeats' Mullet in an earlier post.  I thought the "Farnham" reference might mislead a few.

The team with their real names, then.

B:       Lord Casey     Mark Taylor     Fiona Wood

H/B:   Manning Clark     Shane Gould     Neville Bonner

C:       Alan Bond     Edward Williams     Dick Smith

H/F:   Harry Butler     Arthur Boyd     John Crawford

F:       Dawn Fraser     Paul Hogan     Richard Harris

R:       Patrick White     Adam Goodes     Lionel Rose

I/C:    Fiona Stanley     David Morrison     Cathy Freeman     John Eccles

SUB:   John Farnham

Fair enough, and 👏.

But, damn; Eccles took me down a 'sort of correct' path - that of honoured people. I'm now an authority on Nobel Prize winners...

I believe that Eccles won his for inventing the door knocker.  :D

He also heard one of his co(-honours)-cast had fallen in da water! (Shane Gould or Dawn Fraser, perhaps? Or Alan Bond!)

I don't think a Goons reference will cause a Spike in interest in this repartee.

Yeah, not many Buyers.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
