Sunday 15th October, 5.05PM AEDT, Mineral Resources Park.

Broadcast: Fox Footy, Kayo or live & free on the AFLW website

It's a big chance to bounce back from the first loss of the season and the end of a 14-game winning streak. It's our first game at Mineral Resources Park, where West Coast have a 4-10 win-loss record. This is only our third encounter with the Eagles (we last played WC in R10 2022B, a 78-point win that we wish had been just 1 point more). The Eagles' only win for the 2023 season so far was against Port (14th) in R5. Their losses have come against 13th, 5th, 6th, 12th and 16th.

Player spotlight: After Round 6, Tyla Hanks is 16th in league avg. disposals (23.2). The notable part is that she has a higher disposal efficiency (72.7%) than any player averaging more than 21.0. All other players in the 21+ category are around 65% or less, the only exception being A.McDonald (Geelong) on 24.2 at 70.3%. In R6, Hanks' DE dropped to a season-low 50%. How the team's ball use stacks up against the better pressure of top teams will have a big say going forward. We'll see what the Eagles can bring and expect a big lift from a lot of our players.

Also congrats to Zanker who became the third Demon to kick 5 in an AFLW game, which rocketed her to the top of the league goal kickers and already past her S7 total tally of 14 goals.

Injury list:

I reckon there's a big chance we leave Pearce at home and give Campbell the main ruck duties - perhaps this was always the plan hence her week off for R6. Paxy misses again as she's still under concussion protocols after the incident with her dog (who has a lot to answer for and better be very cute!). Perhaps we spare A.Mackin the 30+ degree heat or give Chaplin a go if Goldrick's not 100%.

This week is the first of two Indigenous Rounds and once again we'll be Narrm. You can read more about our 2023 indigenous jumper (also worn during the men's season) designed by proud Nyul Nyul Saltwater man, Lowell Hunter, here:

Earlier this week Loz told one of our members that she’ll not be playing on Sunday and that she wants Georgia to replace her. I guess that’s what’ll happen.

As for Paxy’s dog, I don’t know the breed but her name’s Poppy and by all accounts she’s very cute.

Paxy's dog should be sent to the pound.

We'll get back on track after last week's disappointment. The Eagles women's team are as bad as their men's.

Dees by 40+

Dees by at least 60 points.

Hore and Zanker to combine for at least 8 goals.

Rhi Watt with her club debut and first game for 595 days, you love to see it!

Rhi is a very much-loved member of our Club. At last year’s B&F she was honoured with a special award for all she does at the Club, a thoroughly deserving recipient. The younger players in particular have greatly benefited from having her there. That was the first time I met her and I could instantly see why she is held in such high esteem.

Wishing Rhi the very best for Sunday! ❤️💙🤞🏼

TAYLA ??
PAXY??

Team should be ok to beat the weagles this week

But injuries… 🤮🤮… we need to be fully fit to win it 🏆

Any goss on the Harri-string @WalkingCivilWar or anyone else? It's starting to seem a bit Oliveresque?😬

I don’t think TAYLA was 100% last week v crows. Maybe only played because of crucial match. Definitely needs this week and next week off.  Don’t want to risk her imv.

I believe the whole squad has travelled. Long flights not great for injuries. But the players are expertly managed.

I think she’s fine but since we’re playing WCE why not wait until next week when we play North. Makes sense.

Tayla is in Melbourne at least - just seen on the broadcast of the Dons v Tigers.

Crows were a whisker too tough when it counted last weekend, but that won’t happen against the mediocre Eaglets.  We just have too much class.  Dees by 8 - 10 goals in the West.

Something I recently discovered: when injured and/or omitted players travel interstate with the playing group they have to pay their own way, ie. flights and accommodation.

Reckon Zanker could kick 10 tomorrow.

Well that is really disappointing

Who does relief ruck when Campbell is resting? As she surely won't have the stamina to go it alone all day.  Would hate it to have to be Edo but can't see too many other candidates

Not too shabby considering there’s only a small group of the DA who made the trip. ❤️💙

I’d say that’d be Rhi Watt.

Wish I could be there. I'm about 4 hours north and was planning to come down for the day but decided to get sick instead.

Hope you’re feeling better soon. 💕

I too really wish I could be there. It sucks having to watch it on TV. Especially when it’s a W match because even one less person there make a difference when there’s not many people to begin with.

I hope Hanksy’s ok

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
