To settle a bet…

He was there. Featured on some of the red carpet coverage, looked like he took a mate to the event.

Definitely so.

A related question...why? Why was he there?

He was clearly no chance to win, wasn't in the running for mark or goal of the year, wasn't club captain or in the AA team and obviously wasn't this year's Rising Star award winner or Coleman medallist. So who invited him and why? If it was the club's decision, why wouldn't you use that spot for someone else who never gets the opportunity. For example, someone like Neal-Bullen, Salem or Langdon?

He still got the fourth most votes for our club after Trac, Vin, Gawn…

Gotta say, the lack of votes he received backs up my views of how wasteful he can be with ball in hand.

Of course he missed games in the second half of the season.

Hoping next year with a new midfield coach or couple of fresh assistants, we can see him making a stride forward on that side of his game. Cause he needs to improve it big time if we're going to compete at the pointy end again.

The AFL does the invites.

The criteria for invitation are based on a range of factors, including the player's performance throughout the season, their popularity, and their contribution to the sport of Australian football. Past winners get an invite every year.
