I've been waiting for us to play Geelong in Geelong since Geelong came into the competetion.Β  Casey may as well be on the other side of the planet from here. I'll be there with my three girls, hoping for another impressive display.Β Β

Hey VC, your daughters are welcome to come to us pregame to grab a flag or other prop to wave during the match. They don’t have to sit with us, as long as anything borrowed is returned postgame. You just need to approach any one of us in the first couple of rows of the cheer squad pregame. πŸ‘πŸ½β€οΈπŸ’™πŸ™‚

Not sure if it’s public yet, but they’re the changes.Β

Thanks for that.Β  Rapt that Gabby Colvin gets a run.

At the risk of pushing the friendship, do you know what the story is with young Georgia CampbellΒ  ? Injured, managed, droppedΒ  ?Β

Georgia’s omission is not form-related, our guess is Mick is going smaller vs Geelong.

Also really happy for Gabby.

PS: friendship not even slightly nudged let alone pushed. 😁

Campbell stuff, she's been great. But I can understand Colvin ahead of her as a senior member of the team.

Campbell has been very good this season so far. She’s an excellent long term prospect.

Good to see Colvin make in the side after that long term injury. Hopefully she can find her rhythm quickly.Β

I would stick with Campbell at the moment. Form has been good and a big reason Pearce has been playing good footy...

I’m down from Tamworth so my son and I will be there😊

Yes, this is true. Haven’t even played them in a practice match. And it’s not liked they’ve just joined the comp, they joined in 2019.

edit: this is the closest we’ve been to playing them…

Another AFL conspiracy on that tin.Β

Why do the cats players have two footys in play? Unfair advantage for sure.

Is their a Melbourne Milo?

Has a better ring to it.

Fair. It's a tough call either way.Β

We like borrowing your flags etc for the Perth based games, really good. The query I have, is when are they going to get rid of the nets behind the goals during games, really makes us not want to sit with the cheer squad. Β Maybe the cheer squad to locate to the pocket as a group when in Perth. Β This years game is at mineral resources park for the first time, so not sure of the best sitting possies. Β Fremantle oval sucks.Β

Love the DeeBrief AFLW, best in-depth look at AFLW Dees out there!

They mentioned that the Dees Army are looking for kids for the Guard of Honour on Thursday night, as an FYI for anyone heading down with kids who'd like to take part.

Thank for the inside word. Glad for Colvin - she was our best on in the S6 GF and I really hope she can recapture that form. It can be a tough injury to come back from. As for the outs, I've got a feeling that the 3-4 next cabs off the rank outside the starting line-up are going to prove crucial.

The nets at most grounds are only up during warmups for goal-kicking practice. But sometimes at the smaller grounds they’re left up for the match, and despite a much lower chance of being hit by a ball, we don’t like having to watch the game through them. As for moving to a pocket or a wing, at away games we don’t get to choose where we sit as a cheer squad.

When I find out the relevant info re Mineral Resources Park I’ll post it here on DL.

Have never seen the Demons play better, more fluid football and we are still as tough as around the ball.Β  No-one can stop Harris, Bannan, Hore and Zanker.

Why the season is not at least 14 games long is a disgrace. They hurried 18 teams in too quickly so there are too many one sided matches and 7 teams you dont even play each year!

For anyone who has children who’d like to participate in the Guard of Honour-

Where: GMHBA Stadium, meet at Gate 10 (Ambulance Race) – there will be a Melbourne staff member there.

When: Meet at 5:35pm
Head out onto the ground at 5:50pm, with the team running out onto the ground at 6:04pm. Β

Guard of Honour will conclude at approx. 6:15pm, with the participants returned to the Gate 10 meeting spot.

Outfit: As much red and blue as possible!

Β

Also, the Demon Army will be sitting in Bay A28 in the Charles Brownlow Stand.

Wow WCW - the ins are as good as the outs.Β  Β What a team we haveΒ

I'm assuming the umpiring at Deliverance Park will be as horrendous for our women as it is for the men?

Wait, they've just announced the game day ump:

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.Β  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.Β  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologistΒ  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmedΒ the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).Β

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?
