Reid, Ginbey, Hewett (if he can get on the park consistently), Draper and Allen have the potential makings of a damn good midfield in 3-5 years.

They have Charlie Banfield next year as FS and likely younger brother Harper in 26. They will also be across Harley Reid and whether he chooses to commit further 

It would be good if we rate Dodson, we should be able to position to draft him. It's the perfect timing for us to draft a ruck with Max having 3 more years. 

I think Verrall can play but at 200cm max he's going to struggle to be #1 ruck. With Campbell coming and B.Brown and Schache exiting maybe he can trial as ruck-forward at Casey.

Hopefully JT nails a mid that turns up a gun with pick 6.

We should roll the dice and go for the GC pick 12 with our future 1st.

Hopefully we can draft Dodson with our pick 25 from Adelaide. We may even be able to trade that up a bit??

I would be willing to trade away our future 1st round pick (in 2025) so we could manage to snaffle another pick in the top 15 to 20 in this year's draft.

Would definitely be inquiring about Brisbane's and Gold Coast's first round picks due to points required for Father-Son pick (Levi Ashcroft) and NGA player picks (Sam Marshall for Brisbane and Leonardo Lombard for Gold Coast).

Possibly GWS too if they have any points needed for NGA player picks?

Richmond will have ALOT of early draft picks with so many of their players moving to Fremantle and West Coast. So we might be able to do a deal with them if they are willing to take a future 1st round pick from us for one of their early picks and they'll "death ride" us in 2025.

Anyway, I am sure Jason Taylor is looking at all those sorts of possible scenarios.

@manny100 No doubt Riv and MCVee will train with the mids this pre season.

I agree they have midfield potential but both played junior footy in the national championships as defenders … running half backs.  Both have been very very good as Rivers rebounding defender with spirit and heart and McVee with composure and defensive smarts against small forwards.  We have to be careful not to rob our backline as we lack a replacement rebounding half back or a steady composure mid-small back pocket.  I’m happy with trialling but prefer them in their current roles. Draft 2 or possibly 3 young specialist mids in this draft.   They are there across many draft rounds.

Not every good defender or forward needs to be turned into a midfielder.

Rivers looked quite good as a mid, and we have plenty of half backs who can fill his mid sized role. Mcvee though didn't look great in the admittedly short time in the midfielder, and we don't have any other competent small defenders. Moving him away from a position he excels at without a competent replacement would move us backwards IMO.

Agree we should draft pure midfielders with our high pick/s and leave Mcvee down back. And also Kozzie should remain forward. Without his goal scoring power and defensive pressure, our forward line is a limp mess.

Essendon may need to match a high opposition bid on their NGA prospect, with Melbourne strongly considering the dangerous small forward – or are they playing games with the Bombers? Either way, Kako, whose parents were born in Iraq, is considered a top-10 lock after a brilliant national under-18 championships. There should be no hesitation taking a sub-180cm goalsneak with Kako’s ability this high after Nick Watson’s impressive debut season. Kako is powerful, and has a knack for creating scoring opportunities and kicking audacious goals from seemingly hopeless situations. He can improve defensively, but can impact the game beyond the forward 50.

Basically it’s another jigsaw puzzle jumble.  Lalor at 1, Ashcroft at 2, big mover Tauru at 3, Smith at 4, Langford at 5, Kako at 6, O’Sullivan at 7, Smillie 8, Lombard 9, Draper at 10.   Armstrong at 11 and noted they have Reid falling to 18.  It’s such an even group possessing all variety of footy skills, athleticism and strengths. The combine interviews to work through the Character and Fit will be keys to which clubs pick these young stars.  
 

footnote. If Lalor is gone by our pick , if we get either Langford or Draper or O'Sullivan than it’s still happy days.

St. Kilda getting pick 8# in Free Agent compensation for losing Josh Battle is massive for them.

They'll have picks 7# and 8# in this year's AFL Draft. This gives them an opportunity to draft 2 young guns or be a major player during the trade period.

It would be funny if they offered both picks to Port Adelaide for Dan Houston or even to us at the Demons for Clayton Oliver.

I don't think the Saints are that dumb though. Plus their supporters might burn down Moorabbin if they did that.
